You may remember earlier this month when a Hearthstone voice actress added something called Lost Secrets of Un’Goro to her resume and then quickly removed it. While we pretty much knew it had something to do with a new Hearthstone expansion featuring dinosaurs and stuff, we didn’t really know, you know? Well, now we really know.
Hearthstone‘s next expansion will be called Journey to Un’Goro, and along with a prehistoric theme complete with dinosaurs and primal magic, it’ll also feature funky new quest cards and a clever new mechanic.
“Travel to the forbidding jungles of Un’Goro Crater, where primordial creatures from the dawn of time roam,” reads the official blurb. “Here, giant dinosaurs infused with raw magical power mercilessly hunt their prey, prehistoric fauna and flora abound, and unchained elementals run wild with primitive magic.”
The charming video above serves as a quick preview of some of the cool stuff coming with the expansion.
First up, a seemingly OP Shaman spell called Volcano. The card is a five-mana spell that deals 15 damage to all minions on the board. Next, Elementals. We’ve seen Elementals in the game before, but Journey to Un’Goro won’t just add new ones to the mix (like the new legendary Mage card called Pyros, which is basically a phoenix thing that comes back stronger after it dies), it’ll also turn Elemental into a minion type like Beasts and Murlocks.
The coolest part of the expansion (to me anyway) is the dinosaurs. But these aren’t your dad’s dinosaurs, oh no. These dinosaurs have “picked up the power of the elements around [them] for even greater effect”.
Adapt is a new keyword being added with the expansion, and it’ll give minions the ability to upgrade themselves with one of three “adaptations” that’ll be selected at random from the ten available. Below are the six of the ten adaptations revealed in the video.
- Liquid Membrane: Can’t be targeted by spells or Hero Powers
- Flaming Claws: +3 Attack
- Crackling Shield: Divine Shield
- Living Spores: Deathrattle: Summon two 1/1 Plants
- Massive: Taunt
- Lightning Speed: Windfury
Lastly, there’s an exciting new kind of card called the quest card. Quest cards are one-mana cards that are added to your starting hand, and once you’ve completed the quest on the card, you’ll receive an “incredible award”, one of which is a new legendary called Amara, Warden of Hope.
Those are just a few of the 135 cards that’ll be included in Journey to Un’Goro when it releases sometime in April. Don’t forget, the launch of the expansion will also herald the start of the new Hearthstone year called the Year of the Mammoth, which you can check out over here.
