Strafe is a retro-style shooter that bills itself as the “fastest, bloodiest, deadliest, most adjective-abusing, action-packed first-person shooter of 1996,” and that’s probably the most applicable description I’ve ever read. It’s also a game we fell in love with more and more each time it popped up with new footage or information.

In an effort to get the adrenaline pumping for its launch next week, Devolver Digital released a launch trailer for the game, and it’s the most gloriously gory, utterly ridiculous thing that we all need in our lives right now.

“Featuring breathtaking photorealistic graphics and persistent gore that allows you to paint levels red with the excessive entrails of your enemies,” reads the trailer’s description. “As a Scraper on an impossibly dangerous mission at the edge of the galaxy, you only have one life to navigate all the nightmarish terrains of STRAFE. When you die, nothing will ever be the same again.”

The game will be out on 9 May for PC and PS4, and you can pre-order it on Steam for R219.
