It must be a laugh, being Rockstar Games. “Next week we’ll be posting a photo of the homeless guy who sleeps outside our studio,” they reveal, and the internet basically stops what it’s doing and waits. We’re hungry for any scraps they’re willing to drop from the table. We did it for years with GTA V, and we’re doing it again now for Red Dead Redemption 2. Thing is, gosh darn it, it’s worth it. Case in point: this gripping new story trailer for the upcoming cowboy adventure.
What do we learn from this shiny new footage? Well, we’ve got confirmation that this is a prequel – protagonist Arthur Morgan is running with Dutch van der Linde, leader of the gang which grumpy old John Marston was after in Red Read Redemption, as they “rob, fight and steal their way across the vast and rugged heart of America in order to survive,” according to the official page.
We also now have more of a picture of who this Morgan character is… and he seems like a real ball breaker. An anti-hero par excellence. We know that bows and arrows are back after being sorely missed in RDR, and we know that the facial animation, environmental and character modelling is looking just fantastic. There is more to glean from this substantial new trailer, so go ahead, watch it up close, like, seventeen times. You know you want to.
Red Dead Redemption 2 comes out, rootin’, tootin’, and six-gun shootin’, in autumn 2018 (southern hemisphere time).
