I have a feeling I’m in the minority here, but I loved Steep. Loved it like I had birthed it from my own (non-existent) womb. And so obviously I’m super excited for the Road to the Olympics DLC, which is just weeks away, and I’ll be hopping onto my Xbox One as soon as I get home to try out the open beta which starts today. Which is, essentially, the point I was trying to get to.
Although, hang on, it starts on 28 November in that sort of “USA is the centre of the universe” kind of way, which means while it’s currently 28 November for us in sunny South Africa, we’ll probably only have open beta up and running when the time zone things get their shit together and today becomes tomorrow in the States. But I digress.
The open beta features Downhill and Big Air events, two of the new events which come with the DLC. You’ll also be able to explore some of the Japan map, one of two new areas along with South Korea. Wouldn’t it be cool if you could ski all the way to the border and then do a huge air jump move thing into North Korea and be instantly shot? No? Just me? Okay then.
If you’re interested the open beta runs until 4 December, the day before the Road to the Olympics launches in full. Oh, and if you end up on the top of the Downhill leaderboards, you could win a ticket to the 2018 Winter Olympics.
Before I go, I just read Tarryn’s Steep review, and can I just say, she’s wrong. Straight up wrong. It’s lovely.
