Need a good reason to get excited for Prototype 2?

Well, how about 11 good reasons? This new trailer (embedded beyond the jump) for the upcoming sandbox action-a-thon shows off what you get when you combine ludicrous amounts of alcohol with game development: utter, unfettered madness. We’re not actually sure if alcohol was involved, but it sure seems that way. The original Prototype let loose a similar video in the months leading up to its release.

It seems fitting to post this trailer, given that Prototype 2 is our April issue’s cover. I had the chance to play pre-release code of the sequel a short while ago, and I can tell you this: it’s certainly Prototype, and it’s somehow more destruction-filled than its maker. Which is saying a lot. Be sure to pick up the magazine this month for more info on the game.

Now, let’s watch.

You may experience some flickering…

Please note: the website will be offline for a (hopefully short) while as we attempt to smoothly transition to new hosts. We will likely fail at the “smoothly” part, but don’t panic, dear reader. We will be back as soon as possible to provide you your gaming fix.

This hurts us more than it hurts you, it’s all for the best, see you on the other side, GL & HF, etc.

BioShock Infinite’s Boys of Silence

BioShock Infinite is out in October. Sweet mother of all things gaming, that feels like an eternity away. While we wait, let’s watch Ken Levine and company discuss the idea behind some new “Heavy Hitters” that you’ll be battling in this new, floaty, non-water-filled BioShock: the Boys of Silence. They’re blind, but are still able to hear you. Your choice: to sneak by them or engage them directly. Choose the latter and the Boys of Silence could bring all manner of hell down on Booker’s (and your) head by calling in reinforments with a horrifying shriek that I’m sure is going to replay in my nightmares later tonight. Thanks, Irrational.

Below you’ll also find a similar video for the Handyman, complete with concept art showing what this tragic foe might have ended up looking like in this furiously anticipated game. You can also find the original Heavy Hitters video, showing off some footage of the Mechanized Patriot, right here.

Ooh, pirate-y: Kingdoms of Amalur’s DLC trailer

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning‘s pirate-themed DLC, dubbed The Legend of Dead Kel, is a thing that the future will bring. And even though we don’t currently live in the future (or maybe you do, depending on when you’re reading this post) and therefore cannot play it yet, that doesn’t mean we can’t watch the trailer placed humbly beyond the jump together.

I really enjoyed Kingdoms of Amalur, as you’ll discover if you read my review of it in NAG’s upcoming birthday issue. Matthew was also quite fond of it, going so far as to call it his Diablo. That’s some grand praise right there. Here’s some more info on The Legend of Dead Kel. You should play KoA, if you’ve not done so already. But first: trailer!

The Witcher 2′s Enhanced Edition enhancements in motion

One of the best games of last year (and one of the finest RPGs in gaming’s history, in my opinion) is headed to Xbox 360 this April. It’s exciting times for anyone who longed to experience this formerly PC exclusive gem, but had not the box o’ hardware to do so. On the same day as the console release (April 17th), anyone who’s already purchased the PC version of the game will be able to upgrade to the “Enhanced Edition” via a free download.

It’s adding a whole bunch of content to the game, which you’ll spot in the Enhanced Edition trailer embedded beyond the jump. Be advised people: the trailer is really not safe for work, because boobs and naked-osity, albeit briefly. I’d hate for you to have to explain your perverted viewing to your boss/mom/dad/concerned co-workers because you failed to heed that there warning. Just sayin’.

Is it time for an Elder Scrolls MMO?

If an “exclusive” report from Tom’s Guide is to be believed, then yes. Yes it is. According to an industry source that wishes to remain anonymous, an Elder Scrolls MMO is in the works right now, as I type these words, and it’s set to be officially announced in May.

There’s a bit of info that’s packed into this supposed leak as well. The game apparently takes place hundreds of years prior to any of the other games in the long-running series, for example. Players will be able to cosy up to one of three factions, represented by the symbols of a lion, a dragon and a “bird of prey” (either a phoenix or an eagle, allegedly).

MAAAAAX PAAAAAYNE! and his visual effects

For the next video in Max Payne 3‘s “design and technology” series (the other two are here and here), Rockstar shows off visual effects and cinematic storytelling. Those certainly are some pretty visual effects, and that’s certainly some cinematic storytelling.

I particularly like the in-engine take on the graphic novel-style narrative devices from the original games. Those graphic novels were striking, sure, but so are these in their own, text-splattered way. It shows off Max’s flashbacks as well, how happenings in the present send his mind (and us) back to his time in New York before making his way to Brazil. It looks like Max Payne. It walks like Max Payne. It talks like Max Payne. It explodes in slow-mo like Max Payne. I think it’s safe to say that Max Payne 3 is unquestionably Max Payne, even without Remedy. The multiplayer sounds delightful as well, and the special edition is drool-worthy.

Click past the break for the video, and there’s more stuff for your eyes to watch over there, and in this.

Would you look at that: Diablo III’s release date

Just like that, Blizzard has declared May 15th 2012 as the release date for one of this year’s most hotly anticipated games.

Said Blizzard CEO Mike Morhaime: “After many years of hard work by our development team and months of beta testing by hundreds of thousands of dedicated players around the world, we’re now in the homestretch.”

“We look forward to putting the final polish on Diablo III over the next two months and delivering the ultimate action-RPG experience to gamers worldwide starting on May 15.”

And the heavens did tremble and all that. Don’t forget this, if you’d like the chance to win access to the Diablo III beta. Save the date people.

Save. The. Date.
