AMD’s Radeon HD7990 has been in the works for a long time and we’ve only seen third-party designs that break away with whatever reference design AMD will surely come up with. “Malta” is AMD’s codename for the reference HD7990 they’ve been working on and it could be launching in just two day’s time.

Specs haven’t exactly been an issue because we can figure out more or less that it’s a smashing of two Radeon HD7970 cores together, complete with their own memory at 3GB (or possibly unified, which would be a first, although not surprising) and a gigantic 768-bit bus. Compared to the GTX690, it’s a monster. But recent specification leaks have filled in whatever gaps we have left, thanks to Japanese site Hermitage Akihabara.

Anansi is an important character in West African culture. He’s a trickster and appears as a spider in African folklore. He’s celebrated as a symbol of slave resistance and used his wisdom, cunning and power to turn the tables on his enemies while helping to free the slaves. While there are many stories about this character, it’s the ability to help turn around the battle against his follower’s oppressors that can be applied to Razer’s Anansi, a multi-functional keyboard for gamers and MMO players.

The HD7790 is a budget replacement for the HD7850 1GB, which AMD recently discontinued because the memory chips were getting too expensive. The company recently launched the HD7790 to much priase from reviewers, but it’s achilles heel is the low VRAM on the current crop of reference models and overclocked editions – 1GB just isn’t enough these days if you’re playing at 1080p and like to inject some AA smoothness into your games. Sapphire’s HD7790 OC 2GB, however, appears to fix that.

Hello and welcome to this week’s edition of the System Builders Guide. We’re in the mid-range segment this week and as NAG’s previous surveys have shown, this is where most of the magazine’s readership spending power is concentrated. This also where the sweet-spot is – our R13,000 budget is the de facto standard for gaming rigs and if you’re looking for value for money, this guide will help you get all that and more. Follow me after the jump.

In my previous reviews I was handed a selection of ambidextrous mice to review and for a while, around a week or so, I used them both with my left hand to get a feel for how well they catered for lefties. I declared the Steelseries Sensei almost perfect and the Razer Orochi more than held its own, even if the thumb buttons were a little hard to press because I wasn’t used to them. I guess my editors figured at that point that they’d throw me a curve ball – a real left-handed mouse – just to see if I wasn’t sucking things out of my thumb. Enter the Razer Death Adder left-hand Edition…

PowerColor is fast becoming a popular brand locally following Wootware’s pushing of the brand’s cards with low pricing and the Never Settle bundle codes guaranteed. I myself recommended that buyers at least consider their offering at the time, since Nvidia had nothing to counter with in the same price range and the game bundles are definitely tempting. PowerColor’s budget overclocked version ups the ante a bit and looks very striking.

For those of you dreading the move to the BGA socket with the Broadwell platform, it’s coming earlier than expected for the desktop market, with Intel trialing three processors for the socket from the Haswell family. The new chip packages will have the “R” designation at the end and will feature Intel’s HD5200 graphics core, possibly the one we’ve been calling “GT3″ for some time now.

You guys all remember the GTX670 DirectCU II Mini (man, that’s a mouthful) that I reported on a while back? It turns out that there’s a reason why ASUS felt comfortable with putting in such a small fan – they redesigned it to better move air around the heatsink and it looks like that paid off quite handsomely. Hit the jump to check out their video demonstration!

Dell is one of the few brands out there that give customers the choice whether to use Windows or not. They first did it with a special edition of their XPS 13 Ultrabook, which featured Ubuntu and was tailored to be more enticing to graphic designers. That caused some tongues to wag since Linux fans took it as a sign that Windows was going down. Maybe they’re going to talk even more after they see this!

We’ve been hearing a lot about the new processor families AMD is readying for tablets and notebooks, codenamed Temash and Kabini. At MWC 2013 in conjunction with Compal and Wistron, the company demonstrated some of their products and Temash showed how long its legs really are, with a live demo of Torchlight 2 optimised for touch screens. Hit the jump if you’re ready for some drool today.
