What do you think of M. Night Shaymalan directing the live action movie?
Oh and its got a all american cast.... Aang is played by a kid from Texas. :p

I don't mind Aaang being white, but aren't all the other characters Eskimos, or Asian?

Thats why people is saying its racist.
The eskimo's are white now. :P

Karate-trained Texan Noah Ringer will play Aang, Jackson Rathbone (TWILIGHT) will portray Sokka, Nicola Peltz (DECK THE HALLS) will be Katara and Jesse McCartney will be Zuko

Oh god I hate it when all the asian people become caucasian.
They're not "making it more relatable" they're just ****ing it up!
I forsee epic failness ?_?"

Now now, the movie might turn out to be complete rubbish, but we're here to talk about the show.

I once said it's one of the best if not -the- best animated show I ever watched, and I still stand by that comment. I just thought it was brilliantly written, paced, animated, and the characters were genuinely interesting.

I agree with you. A amazing show.
I saw a heading in a magazine over it once: " What show does anime, just as good as anime, Avatar!"

OK, that was my knee-jerk reaction.
It may still turn out to be a decent (or hopefully great) movie.

As far as the show goes, I only watched a few episodes of season 1 while I was in the UK a few years ago. It is a brilliant story and TV show.

I love anime and I don't want to start some silly argument, but I believe Avatar was done better than -most- Anime.

I don't like how it gets compared to Anime all the time either, it might have a lot of influences, but it's not an anime and I don't think it was trying to be.

Avatar is the kind of entertainment I hope to create some day.
I admire the story, and universe they created.

I agree, it's a brilliant show but it should be obvious from just the animation style that it isn't an anime and it doesn't have particular elements of anime, you can see the western influence

I wish you could have found out about what happened to Jet, Sukos mothers or Suko's sister (I mean, she had a complete breakdown because she lost her best/only friends). The creator said there could be more seasons, but they hadn't come up with another plot at the time of the interview.

I believe there is a comic out that has a 4th book called Blood. Ties things together, I suppose.

The problem, people oly see trailers and think :" oh no! Not another american cartoon trying to imitate anime.... and its a nick cartoon?? No thanks"

If people got past that mindset and gave it a fair chance, it would most probly be even more popular than naruto!
Which is tough for me to say..... since I'm a naruto fanatic.

^ phreak it is/was one of the most popular animated shows in america as far as Wiki tells it. It's definitely the most popular show Nick has in it's collection and It's even won a few awards.

So, I don't think people were worried about it being 'anime'. Has anyone seen the specials where they're all 'Chibi'-like and have comical adventures.

Yeah, those 'Chibi' episodes are pretty sweet (more than one? :| I'm only up to Book 3, Chapter 1). But did they air them on TV?

James Donaldson
08-04-2009, 10:27 PM
Nah, when I was capped I was stuck searching metacafe.com and found one special by accident (But there are others I couldn't get because they were on You-tube).

Didn't know about those until then.

PS: Avatar had the best recap episode of ANY series :)

That episode they're talking about was listed at #91 as ByddyTV's one of the top 100 episodes (of any series) to air last year (the only animated episode to make it onto the list).

One of the funniest parts of that recap episode was when they told zuko his scar was on the wrong side

10-04-2009, 04:29 PM
Ok i sort of know how the plot is going because i only watch the show when i can catch it but why is it that the fire lord and that guy with the scar on his eye's sister have lightning? I thought their were only 4 elements.

Boggle24
10-04-2009, 04:42 PM
The 4 main elements can create sort of "sub elements" for bending.

for instance, Toph can bend steel and later on Kitara learns how to do blood bending

The lightning as far as I can remember is a very dangerous technique as it can kill the bender if he doesn't use it correctly, which is why so few people do it.

James Donaldson

^Or to add, "Combustion Man" who somehow learnt tocreate a sort of air rocket which blows the krap out of anything it hits. Sadly for the Combustion man it seems a slight tap on the head causes him to mis-fire and when Soka hits him in the head -and CM tried to shoot- he just blew up.

Crystals get bended as apart of Earth bending too.

What are your favorite episodes, characters, battles etc in one of the best shows to come from the west in a while

My favourite episode would have to be the finale. Action, comedy, love, suspense...it was just brilliant.

Favourite battles: Aang Vs Fire Lord Ozai , Katara Vs Hama, Zuko Vs Azula and Toph VS The Boulder (and Co) in the Earth Rumble tournament. Any battle against Toph or Azula was guaranteed to be epic. I liked that they incorporated real world fighting styles into the series. It made the fighting scenes look that much more fluid and believable.

All the characters were awesome. Master Iroh was one of my favourites. Mako did a fantastic job as the voice of Iroh. I was really happy that Greg Baldwin mimiced the same voice for the character, after Mako passed away. I enjoyed seeing Zuko's journey throughout the series. Sokka's hilarious and Toph, well, she just rocks! *cough.

I read somewhere those four episodes were released as a two hour tv-movie and that it won an emmy ^^

Iroh was my favorite character by far, i haven't gotten to where Baldwin does his voice yet

I'm not watching the tv version for a while, i finally got some episodes and want to watch them in order

To nitpick, I wish they had shown abit more the other elements besides earth. Every time they had Earth bending it became an awesome display and you got the sense anything, in regards to earth or metal and crystal, was possible.

Water got the next most screen time and though Freezing and slashing is fine, it was only when the Hag showed Katara how to pull water out of the air and plants (as well as blood bend) that you got the sense they could do anything with water. I still would have liked to see more.

But with air and fire you saw a few things but didn't really get the sense everything was posible with those elements (Weather control maybe?). Also in my mind Lightning is Air, not fire.

Toph is my favourite too.

NecroWolf
11-04-2009, 10:12 AM
I think the reason they made lightning a part of fire is that it's very destructive like fire whereas air wasn't depicted as a destructive elemen
