They have a trailer for a song? Doesn't anybody else find that a little bizarre?

Probably not their idea, I have a feeling this is more aimed at marketing Transformers 2.

I think it is an awesome song, its a real pity they moved the expected release date for their concept album to next year.

I really like it. Sounds to me as if they're trying to blend their old and new sounds. Minutes to Midnight was a hit and miss, some liked it, others preferred their harder rock. If they really are trying to combine the two, I think it bodes well for the next album.
Lysis, where did you hear that?

Not a fan? You do know they are one of the most popular bands in the world?

Doesn't make them good. Mariah Carey is one of the highest selling artists of all time. Doesn't mean that musically it's worth a ****.

Appealing to the lowest common denominator is easy. Remeber, at least one quarter of the worlds population is retarded.

That said, if you dig, then dig em. You won't convert me, so don't try. I've listened to all their albums and haven't enjoyed anything since Hybrid Theory (when I was 15). There is so much music out there that is 100x more interesting.

In October 2008 Shinoda revealed on his blog that he, Farrell and Hahn had begun working on two song ideas at Hahn's home, with studio recording to begin in earnest soon.[52] In 2008, Bennington announced that Linkin Park's fourth studio release will be a concept album.[53] The band has not released many specific details about the album.[1] In an interview with MTV in November 2008, Bennington stated, "It sounds a little daunting to me, so, I think my confidence level will drop, but when it was presented to us by this friend of ours, we liked the idea. It was an inspiring idea, and it was something we could relate a lot of the things we like to write about to".[2] He also added that the band planned to begin recording in December for a six-week session. The album was expected in mid 2009, but in late March, Mike Shinoda wrote on his blog saying "We're hoping to have Chester's Dead By Sunrise album out this fall, and the new LP album out early next year."[54]

Cleric what is it exactly that you don't like about them? I think that they are a rather talented bunch of people, they might not be pushing musical boundaries the way bands like Pink Floyd did/do, but they still produce an amazing sound. I am not trying to convert you here I'd just like you to elaborate on your feelings.

What I like about LP:
Cherster's voice
Decent crunchy guitar

What I don't like about LP:
Possibly the worst "rapper" in the world with the most attrocious ryhmes
Over-production makes it sound soul-less
Verse-choruse-verse-chorus-bridge-quite verse-chorus-chorus (for just about every song)
Lyrics that could have been written by an agree 13 year old

Valid and understandable dislikes there Cleric. That said, I don't really mind the production, although that is a matter of personal taste. I agree that they do have a rather formulaic approach to writing songs, but I don't think that really detracts from the sound they have. Perhaps a concept album will force them to re-asses their approach to writing songs.

It is rather strange for such a mainstream band to be doing a concept album. Or is it just because they wan one theme so that all the lyrics can be similar without it sounding too lazy?

No, I agree with you Cleric. Those are valid points (except for your criticism of Mike Shinoda, who I rate as one of the best rappers of our generation).
Except I like the repetition, and I couldn't give a **** about the lyrics (Hands Held High is particularly bad). So I guess that's the difference between us.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
Give a listen to Wu Tang Clan. Or Cypress Hill.
Or give the early Pestroy stuff a listen.

All of those blows this fool out of the water. I am loathe to even call him a rapper. He speaks at a medium pace, and uses cliched ryhmes.

I admit, I've never heard those guys, but have you heard some of Fort Minor's songs? I like his rapping style and his voice suits it perfectly. Besides I think he's tons better than these 'gangstas' like 50 Cent, T.I. etc.

Dude don't laugh at him for his opinion.

Personally I dont like Mike Shinoda I think he isn't very good at anything except stinking.

I much prefer Chester and he is the main reason I like Linkin Park, although I must say I didn't like their latest album, I prefer Meteora and Hybrid Theory

About your earlier post:

Doesn't make them good. Mariah Carey is one of the highest selling artists of all time. Doesn't mean that musically it's worth a ****.

Appealing to the lowest common denominator is easy. Remember, at least one quarter of the worlds population is retarded.

That said, if you dig, then dig em. You won't convert me, so don't try. I've listened to all their albums and haven't enjoyed anything since Hybrid Theory (when I was 15). There is so much music out there that is 100x more interesting.

Actually, yeah, it kind of does. Tastes differ.

"Remeber, at least one quarter of the worlds population is retarded."

You wanna read that again? According to your logic, everyone that bought Linkin Park's albums, don't like their music, but are retarded? And no, there aren't 1.5 billion retarded people on earth.

Again, tastes differ. If you don't like them, no problem, but there's no need for stupid comments like that.

Cleric

I obviously don't mean medically retarded. But read the news, and you'll see that the world is filled with many many stupid people.
And as for Mariah Carey, it's commercial junk with no soul. MUSICALLY there is nothing to it. Anyone could produce that kind of bland, unchalleging listner friendly tripe.

Firstly, on topic - Sounds less like the Minutes to Midnight stuff, which is good in my book. Not really a Linkin Park fan, but people are entitled to enjoy whatever the hell they want to.

Also, slightly off topic, but still warranting to be said: Cleric, do you really have to **** over everything musically on this forum that doesn't align with your taste? I consider myself a pretty big music geek, and truth be told, the whole 'waaargh, /rant' thing gets old real fast.

Everyone wants something else from music ffs. It doesn't make person x's taste better or worse than person b's. Some people want nothing more than a good dance beat, some people just want something soothing and others perhaps want something more creative.

Going into /rage mode has never in my experience made anyone go, "hey, I might give this dude's reccomendation a go". It simply makes you look like an elitist prick. And trust me, we really don't need any more of those. The world might be filled with a lot of 'retards' (rofl, hell dude?), but the amount of elitist ****s acting superior to everyone else isn't far behind imo.

tl;dr, chill.

ALSO, I might as well inb4 this, seeing as it's going to happen:

Not in rage mode. I put constructive points across as to what I do/don't like. It's called discussion. It's what forums are about. Otherwise the thread would be a mixed succession of people saying "like it","don't lik it" or "meh"

EDIT: nm. Guess I did come across as a bit elitist. Apologies all.

I stopped listening to LP when they brought out re-animation. Like it was the same cd remixed. I just thought, these guys are gonna milk the system. And every song that iv heard on the radio since has been meh, and its getting more meher as time goes by. Not saying i dont like them, its not unlistenable, but synthesised rock has to be really well done and blown out the water before ill buy their stuff.

I liked Reanimation. It had some really good songs, if a bit different, like Crawling and My December.
Their collaboration with JayZ was utter rubbish though. Their was only one good song, Numb/Encore, which went on to win a Grammy. I also managed to get hold of some of their unreleased work, and I can see exactly why they weren't released.

Ah i totally forgot about the JayZ LP colab. Must have erased it from my memory. Im sure if timberland was around they would have colab'd with him instead. But i must admit LP's lyrics are pretty good imo. I could never think of rhyming like he does.

I had it long before most South Africans even knew that there was a new Transformers movie lol *cough* Limewire *cough*. Also Linkin Park will always be a favourite band of mine purely as it opened the boundaries of my musical tastes and then it progressed to metal. The way I see it is Linkin Park is getting older and therefor their sound is going from all out f**k off (Hybrid Theory) to a more mellower sound (Minutes to Midnight) anybody wanna bash da n00b? Please do feel free to do so, should the need ever arise to do so!

Despite the fact that the last decent album that they did, IMO, was Reanimation, the song itself isn't bad at all. My only gripe, and this happens to a lot of artists, is that MTV and the likes are playing it every 15 minutes and as such I am now sick of it.

I agree with Azraphael, When new songs are brought out into the open it gets played too many times everywhere. It always happens to the songs that the general public are aware of.
