I'm not sure when this hits the SA circuit, but I watched Drag Me To Hell here in the UK last night. If you've seen any of the Evil Dead films then you'll feel familiar enough with his original style to know that this movie is meant to give you a bunch of quick and often cheap scares with a healthy scattering of gross-out bits all tied together with morbidly black and occasionally absurdist humour.

Friggin LOVED this movie.

I've not enjoyed a horror flick like this since Evil Dead 2 and in many ways this almost feels like a spiritual sequel to Army of Darkness - near the end, our heroine even uses one of Ash's one-liners (which is also where Duke Nukem got most of his choice one-liners).
Just like Evil Dead, this is a horror which doesn't take itself too seriously, isn't afraid of taking cheap shots, and will surely get you jumping out of your seat more than once.

The only downer: Bruce Campbell doesn't make a cameo ;_;

I actually gave this a miss because I was worried it would just be yet another horror movie.

I'll drag myself to see this at some point [no pun intended] Next time you go, send me a PM - my friends here are a bunch of pussies, they don't like scary movies

As a fan of Sam Raimi's earlier work (I own the 2 Evil Deads, Army of Darkness and the American Gothic series) I have this film pencilled in on my DVDs-to-buy list.

Looking forward to it. I'm a bit tired of the J-Horror remakes and serious psychological horror films that we've been subjected to for the last few years.

I love Bruce Campbell, sadly the only Evil Dead movie I own is Army of Darkness. I must definitely look at buying the rest.

Good idea. Evil Dead 1 is the same movie as Evil Dead 2, except that ED1 had no budget and ED2 was effectively a remake. Fundamental films for your Sam Raimi collection of deadites and spidermen ^_^

*revives the thread*

Finally got to see this movie, omg, brilliant, utterly and totally brilliant. The scary moments are so blatant but you STILL get a fright (except I kept reaching for my popcorn just as they did the scary moments). The entire cinema was laughing at the gross out scenes and the ending was excellent.

I can't wait for the DVD to watch it again.
