Confirmed

PowerColor was the first to inform the world that Radeon 4730 is coming and as the name implies, many expected a 40nm RV740 rather than RV770LE 55nm.

ATI used Nvidia renaming strategy (shame on you) as this is nothing more than Radeon 4830 renamed to justifiy its lower price. This is not a simple SKU rename as Radeon 4730 name implies that the card is different since it has 700MHz clock versus 575MHz on 4830, and 128 bit memory interface powered with 3600MHz GDDR5 memory.

The specs give us the impression that Radeon HD 4730 has every chance to end up faster than Radeon HD 4830. Nvidia simply renames the same chip and uses the same specs and the same name, which is somehow worse, but unfortunately increases its sales. So much about market awareness.

Since both have 640 shader processors the slower number one might end up faster. We will have to wait and see but one thing is certain, Radeon HD 4730 is not 40nm based as ATI obviously doesn?t have enough 40nm chips at its disposal.

I heard this as well, and was very disappointed. I expected the HD4730 to be priced at the same level as Twintech's 9800GT, but it looks like it will suffer a performance hit. Its still going to be a budget killer though, but I was expecting more. Surely the 40nm yields have improved by now...
