I was just going about looking for new shows on the 2 new DSTV channels when I saw a couple of members (who are 99%) idiots make a couple of requests for the show Family Guy.
Now I have heard nothing but win from this show even though I have never seen a single episode!
But its http://www.imdb.com/List?certificates=South%20Africa:(Banned)&&heading=14;South%20Africa:(Banned
on the banned in SA list!? WTF?
EDIT: Is this perhaps just an episode? Or the whole series

Family guy is, in my personal opinion, the best "adult" cartoon show there is. if you've ever seen american dad, it's produced by the same guy, Seth McFarlane, a genius writer. it sucks that it's been banned, since the show's views and mockery of pop culture, and it's tendancy to almost put a mirror in front of society and exclaim our faults, is well needed in SA in my opinion. it's really really really funny too!
what's not to love about a fat retard father, the hot excentric wife, the evil baby that's hell bent on world domination, the alcoholic intelligent dog, the ugly daugter everyone hates, the even more retarded son? and the neighborhood.... a cripple, a pedophile, a black guy and a sex maniac....
Let's drink till we cant feel feelings anymore!!!!

I find it hard to believe the series is banned, as South Africa actually has a very liberal media. I really can't see any reason why it would be banned.
Family Guy is my all time favourite TV show. I have every single DVD boxset and DVD special they've released of it, and have re-watched them all so many times. It's simply brilliant.
American Dad has also become a really great show; in fact, I'd say that the latest series of American Dad is as good as Family Guy. I think that Roger in American Dad is my most favourite animated character of all time.
Seth Macfarlane is a genius.

I used to think that Family guy was the best animated series on TV (next to South Park), but the last season of American Dad has blow all competitors away. Roger and Stan are just ****ing awesome.

Yeah, I'm still making my way through the DVD set of Season Four of American Dad, and it's absolutely incredible. The show has really come a long way.

I see Adult Swim has launched in SA so possibility of family guy being shown? I mean, come on it's not as bad as South Park. Or should I say worse than South Park. If it was on the same level as Drawn Together I could understand it being banned. But yeah, Family Guy is awesome, definitely one of my favourites.

We've had Adult Swim for quite a while actually...
So if its banned in SA does that mean just from TV? Or can I still get a DVD in a store like say Look & Listen? Or do I have to import it?
EDIT: They have it on Take2, so then I guess its just from TV.

TiNRiB, I'm quite sure that IMDB listing is wrong. We have a very liberal media in this country. Stuff doesn't really get banned here.

I do remeber the pilot for American Dad being shown on M-Net, only the pilot. It was taken off due to pressure from various "outraged" groups. They had to show it late at night on ActionX. I wonder if Family Guy met a similar fate.
Personally hearing it was pulled from M-Net just made me want to check American dad out even more.

They did show American Dad, I don't remember it being pulled, the pilot was awesome and hilarious, but I thought the actual show was sh!t (Sorry, I haven't seen season 3 or 4).
I'm also pretty sure Family Guy did show on GoTV and was then removed for whatever reason. You can get the DVD's so it can't be BANNED, maybe the powers that be just found it unfit for mainstream...or payview TV.

Yeh... I feel the same way. The reason I thought it could be a possibility though is because I have heard nothing but praises for the series, yet its never been on SA TV. Or are we (well they) just delayed as usual?

Well, just because it's not banned doesn't mean any channel wants to show it. The show courts some controversy overseas (among the really hysterical conservatives, it must be said), and it's possible local channels are reluctant to show it here for the same reasons. For all that we've a liberal media, we've also a significant population percentage of religious conservatives.
Such a shame, really. Family Guy is a superb show.

It is a damn shame. What's funny is that South Park is shown on M-Net, and Family Guy is nowhere near as controversial or as "adult" as that show (I think, never seen it myself). American Dad is brilliant though, only seen the first two seasons but it's awesome.

Family Guy is sheer brilliance, I have seen most of the seven seasons, and I must say it's hilarious. I doubt that Adult Swim would show it, but if they do it would be really good for us.

Ive never seen family guy myself,Id like too...But yeah we have a very liberal media,I mean If we can show south park then we should be able to show Family guy...and something else was brought to my attention..why is pokeman on that list?...I dont like pokemon it sucks but istn it a childrens show or something?
I've seen pokemon on TV, that list lies. Unless, which I think it may be, it's only a specific episode.

Pokemon used to be on SABC 2. I remember 9/11, when I shouted at my mom for taping a bull**** news report instead of it.
I've managed to get a few episodes of Family Guy. I don't know if it's just because I've watched too many episodes of American Dad, but I don't find it that great. It's funny, but I haven't had any gut-busting moments. Stewie and Bryan's awesome though.
