Just curious to find out how long, on average, it takes everyone to finish a decent game? Of course, it will depend on the game itself, but just state the number of levels in the game and how many hours of play it took you to finish? (without walkthru's or cheats that is :P)

Well, I recently played Riddick again.
I don't know how many levels, but I'd say it took me something like 4-6 hours maybe.
I played it in small sessions over 2-3 days I think.

I know i finished Half Life 2 Ep1 in 2 1/2 hours though.

I saw a video of a guy finishing the original Half Life in 52 Minutes!!

This is a very ambiguous question, because the answers can range from 30 minutes to infinity.

I know. I tried to phrase it broadly but I guess it doesn't work well. What I'm trying to find out is how long it 'generally' takes people to finish a game (that does have an end). Maybe everyone could say their favourite game, how many levels it had, and how long it took to finish it?

I just wonder because I want to know what might be 'average' and how far away from average I might be...

I take my own sweet time when playing a game as i am no hurry to finish , like FEAR Expansion they say will take 10 hours to finish took me 18 , l like to look around and enjoy all aspects of the game but my friend finished it in 6.Everyone is different and think it may be difficult to find a average :)

That could be good news for me cause I seem to take forever ;)

How it takes me to finish a game: depends on work, life, love, relationships, friendships, the game, my PC, the console, the weather, money, time, energy and pets.

Yeah, If I want to suck in all the goodies in a game; I'll take my sweet time.

Maybe just in hard hours?
Like how many playing hours you spent in total to finish a game?

I just finished Doom3 and HL2 the other day...uhm...things sometimes get in the way.

Man wir, you can miss the plot sometimes.

Every single game I've ever played, had a different amount of hours it took me to finish it. I'm saying that listing how long you took to finish a game is useless unless everyone lists -the same game-.

finish a game..... um hmm, I finished fable and pop warrior within not sure how long those took pop I finished rather quickly compared to fable I think... but both longer than my friends who played them. Never finished anything else or if I have cant remember

Well that depends..techniacally it took me a about 2 years to complete FF10, that is I got all the way up to Sin in a bout 3 months, tried two months to kill the ****er and then gave up...one and a half years later I randomly try and kill him..game clocked..
Well most shooters dont take that long...like Prey took me about 2 weeks (Game play ranging from 1 hour to about 2) but like Miktar said I have other things to do..so unless we say okay boys and girls " Sit down and play FEAR without stopping to eat, drink, go to the toilet, bath, go to work or anything else and see how long it takes you to complete".
THen we can compare scores...of only one game...of only one genre...hmmm

Yeah, not easy to asnwer. FPS games tend to go much faster than others, though.

Umm, I meant like listing a few games you've recently played or some memorable games.

I finished minesweeper in about 10 mins a few days ago. :P

Well for PDZ (which for those here who have not experienced its awesome power stands for Perfect Dark Zero), which has 13 levels i believe, it took 10 hours to finish it the latest time.

Yeah, I'm probably the slowest game player on the forums, I usually get bored of a game. Or otherwise I really wanted it, then I got it, played it for a bit, then the rush was gone.

It's Rebbo, that's whats wrong. ;)

Actually I think PDZ is not that bad, for a first gen, somewhat rushed title.

My Average in game-hours

Game time is usually 8 hours for a FPS (But Pariah was 4, Doom 3 was 12)
Game time for a RTS varies, I it's usually over two weeks (Dawn of War was 2 days and Empire at War two months)
Game time for a management game (Infinite -never finished one)
Game time for an RPG is usually 20-30 hours (Grandia 2 was 15)

It's definitely not the best FPS ever but not close to being the worst either. Just a good ol' fashioned shooter.

Edit:

Hey, hello Nimue.

Generally it takes me 4-5 weeks to finish most games. Usually if I don't finish it by then i get bored with it or I've lost the plot, so either way I'm finished with it (for a while).

if i have a lot of work to do a game ends up on my pile of stuff i need to still play
that pile is getting rather big

good thing holidays exist

I can relate to that, Nimitz - my backlog of games is starting to rise. I really need a weekend of just pure gaming.

I'm actually scared of counting my unfinished stack of games, it will probably make me cry. And Spartans don't cry.

You guys so like you're -almost- complaining about the number of games you have not yet played. I'd be glad to take them off your hands...but I think the anticipation is enough for you to keep them until you do get a chance to play them (in which case, since anticipation usually builds over time, sooner might not necessarily be better)...

Never played a FPS from start to finish, neither a Racing game. On average for an RTS... I don't know! I'm guessing 20 hours? Depends on the complexity of coarse. For RPGs I'd say 30 hours, usually 60 for Final Fantasy games and Star Ocean 3 took me about 140 hours to finish, including the extra dungeons, etc. Lets see thats roughly: (30(4) + 60(3) + 140)/8 = 55 hours average for RPGs? =P

games last as long as your interested but usually there are 4 factors

multiplay: this boosts a game from here to anywhere
story: rpgs do good with this one it gives you that incentive to wanna play more (assuming the gameplay isnt that bad)
choice: yes REAL choice that gives a game a whole new life (oblivions a good example) and that changes the focus (eg oblivion fighters guild - killing things and becoming strong to theives guild - stealing things and sneaking around) this includes mods from the community
gameplay: yess the reason you bought the game the actuall interaction

there is content but that falls under choice beacuse most reaally big games always have a choice to undertake that content (GTA series)

although i would love to mention gameplay there is rarely a game people would play again unless the

Another good question would be : how nuch time does people spend on games in a day, but it all depends on how interested you are... I play about 1 to 2 hours a day.

James Donaldson
15-08-2007, 07:28 PM
I can only stand 1 to 3 hours a day and it has to be in 1 hour intervels. Usually different games.

The longest time I've ever spent in one sitting on a game was 4 hours on Guild Wars. It was scary starting at 4pm then looking up to find it was 8pm. Never done that again though.

A friend of mine from High School, I remember he could get onto a game (mainly FF7/Sims) and play constantly for hours -only stopping to eat. One time he was showing me the final fight of FF7 against Sephiroth. I think after an hour of constant fighting, he decides it's taking too long, so he spends the next half hour commiting suicide! (he could of just quit the game)

I'll take about a week depending on the length of a game, but a week on average. (Uni etc influences play you know...)
