Len Nery, Arena77 former MD, has announced that Arena 77 will be sending the winner of their Quake 3 competition at rAge to this year’s Summer Dreamhack in Sweden.

The winner will be sent to play in the Quake Live Competition at Summer Dreamhack at the end of November. AVG will be sponsoring the winner’s flight as well as accommodation and entry into the competition.

Earlier this month, Arena77 announced they would be holding a Quake 3 Competition at rAge with over R100 000 in hardware prizes in addition to the newly announced Dreamhack prize.

Nery then said the original plan was to host a competition for Counter Strike Source (CS:S) and link it with Kode 5, which is a 1.6 Counter Strike competition, where the winning CS:S team would play CS 1.6 at Kode 5. Read more on that story here

The tournament will be a 1 vs 1 Single Elimination Tournament, however will no longer be a random draw competition, as announced previously by Arena 77. Seeds are being decided in consultation with the community in order to ensure a fair tournament.

According to LanGames, the competition will be free of charge, as long as each entrant has either a rAge visitor’s pass or an Open LAN ticket.

The competition is not a BYOC (Bring Your Own Computer) event and will be played on sponsored machines. Players are also allowed to bring their own mouse, keyboard, mousepad and headphones in order to compete.

Arena77 are keeping their Quake 3 settings at rAge as close to those of Quake Live in order for their winner to stand a good chance overseas. There will be a mix of Dreamhack maps and standard maps which will be up on the Arena77 website (http://www.arena77.co.za).
