We finished watching the second movie, Evangelion Rebuild 2.0 - You Can (Not) Advance, last night.
So far, I'm loving this sequel to the series and End Of movie.
I especially love that this time, since events played out differently and the hospital where Toji's little sister was didn't get destroyed, killing her, it wasn't Toji inside the Eva that became the angel Bardiel, and it ended up being Asuka instead, instead of Rei because Asuka filled in for Rei so Rei could host the dinner party for Shiny and Ikari - epic, in it's own way. And as a result, Third Impact happens sooner, and Kaoru comes down from the moon with the Spear of Longivus (which was, of course, still on the moon since that's where Asuka put it), and nails Shinji/Rei together. Badass!

:O
I've only seen 1.0 You Are (NOT) Alone and loved the alterations that they made to a lot of the things, such as Angel #6, but I'm infinitely more excited about the next two movies considering they seem to have some actual plot changes and a new character

I really need to get these new episodes again. When it was revealed that the new season was in fact a sequel/continuation rather than a remake, my interest spiked.

Indeed. While I wouldn't have minded a complete retelling, this definitely makes things faaaaaaaaaaar more interesting. Assuming that this is the world that Shinji willed into existence during the LAST third impact it also makes the title a lot juicier, no? ;)
Now to actually FIND it... :(

So it's actually a sequel (even though I already knew that was hinted at), that's awesome! Too bad I won't be able to watch it any time soon. :(

The problem is, part of Evangelions' appeal is it's take on religion, it's "think for yourself" plot points and, of course, its its horrifically-depressing, tragic, biblical-like, movie ending.
So, will they just repeat that formula, or will they create some sort of finale that fans can finally be satisfied with? On one hand, you don't want it to be "Un-evangelion" with rainbows and butterflies, but no the other you don't want it to end up being "You're 14 and yet you managed to f**k up twice, Shinji".

So far, I think they're on the right track. Less angels means humanity has gotten over some of it's collective ****, and already Shinji is a billion times better than he was last time - everyone is, really - since they all learned some lessons

Technically... there's only one movie you need to watch, End of Evangelion.
Death is a summery of the last two episodes, Rebirth is the first 40min of End of Evangelion.
If you've seen End of Evangelion... that's all you need to see.
