It's here people and it's quite awesome. They've added tabs, inline editing and some other stuff. In fact, I made this thread using it. Head over to the opera mini site and download it to see how great it is.

Yay. I love using my phone to post (Opera Mini 4.2) as i am often to lazy to get to my PC.
In fact i looked for an update last week and there was none, so I would probably never have known about v 5 without you, thanks.

I've been using it for a few days now. It's way better than prev version. Some issues though : freezes with every website load for few secs; when navigating menus it registers arrow clicks as two clicks in stead of one.
I have a non-touch phone, HTC s710...

It's pretty cool. Only problem is random freezing

That's why it's still in beta.

Has anyone figured out how to add new searches and change what you have on the start page?

Maybe, if you have a touch phone, try click + hold on the icons on the start page. Just a guess.
Also, I enjoyed not having a pointer in Mobile view. I hope they give a choice with the final release.
Opera Mini is awesome!

Just figured out how to edit start page links. Highlight the one you want to change. Press 1 and choose edit. Easy as pie :-)

okay, I'm having serious freezing problems with my phone's native text editor and the arrow isn't really working. I really miss the ability to press 1 to reload a page or load images instead of going through the settings (or maybe it's my phone).

Same with the freezing in the text editor and i hate the way the comma has been placed so far (you have to press key 1 so much before you get a comma.) I also can no longer skip lines (press enter)

considering this is the beta, i think you can tell the opera people what you think. I agree with the text thing though i used to be able to just press * to select symbols but now that changes the text to upper case. i still haven't figured out how to add new searches though

You press menue, go up to the tabs and click on the plus, then start a new page. Is that what you looking for?

I just discoved the short cuts for tabs.
By pressing * then up, opens a new tab and * down closes the current tab
also * left or right, scrolls through the tabs.

no, i wanted to know how make a new search. In the old one if you went on a site with a search function you could add a new search to your front page with google and wikipedia and some other stuff. I'd like to know how to do that

I downloaded the beta today. Seems to be working so far, no problems for me yet.

Many bugs, like links that reload the current page, typed text that disappears after a while. And the lack of features found in v4.2 .

EDIT: Obviously this is a Beta version, so let's wait and see, while enjoying the new UI.

@Necrowolf - I think that feature isn't supported in the Beta. I read through some of the opera forums and if I recall correctly that was one of the things that quite a few people requested. It should be in the final release.

Does someone know how to get Opera to use my phone's dictionary for inputs. I'm stuck on the 'press a key multiple time' input, and really want to change it.

@ cr@zydude - if it's 4.2 that you are using, try turning off Auto Complete Web Addresses. If it's not the address bar that's the issue, try holding down * or # to switch to T9 input (this depends on your phone model, so check the user manual).

It looks cool enough, just the absence of predictive text gets a bit annoying.

You can turn inline editing off people....then you can use your phones dictionary.

I'm using the version 5 beta, but I'll give it a try.

The beta 2 was recently released. I allows custom search and that opera synchronisation feature among other things I haven't discovered yet

Hope it'll finally be compatible with my E90... My standard browser just about doesn't work at all anymore, and the other versions of Opera just refuse to install!

*Sigh*

I installed Opera Mobile 10 on my Nokia 5600 (symbian). It's pretty awesome for touch screens and also has some technology that makes pages load faster, and also saves me a lot of money since browsing with images disabled means your average page is only a few kilobytes. It also as tabbed browsing, allows you to copy and paste text from a page and other neat little things that male browsing from your phone a much better experience. The default browser on this Nokia is okay, but it can be slow, and if you disable images it won't show the images but it is actually still downloading them so your average page is a couple hundred kilobytes (ends up very expensive if you browse a lot).

It has one or two fatal problems though; firstly the qwerty board it uses is way too tiny on my screen so typing is frustrating. When I turn off in-line editing it often does this weird thing where if I try editing something I've already written it won't go back to the browser, it simply stays stuck in the editing window. My phone will still function fine, I can open other apps etc, but I just can't get back into the browser and the only way to close the program is to turn the phone off. Kinda frustrating when you've typed out something lengthy. And now it's suddenly gone FUBAR on me, when I try open Opera Mobile my phone just freezes so I've now uninstalled it. I would re-install it but the download is 5mb (would cost about R20 to download) and for some retarded reason it installs the program directly through the download - so you can't save the installation files to your phone and access them later. I'm using opera mini at the moment but with a touch screen it doesn't have the same kind of functinality as Opera Mobile. That said, I still prefer it to the default Nokia browser.

Opera mini 5 does have touch screen support. Are you still on 4.2?

Opera 4.2 has good touch-screen support as well. I tried Mini 5. It has some nice ideas, but there are far too many bugs to sort out, especially for the various Symbian phones. I tried it on a Sony Ericsson and for the most past it worked better than on my Samsung i450. I also tried Opera Mobile 10 beta, and had a similarly frustrating experience.

There was another browser I wanted to try that includes flash and java support, but can't for the life of me remember what it is.

Have they fixed native text editor bug (application freezes when you try editing text)?
EDIT: Not sure if everyone had this problem but its happened to a few people I know

Has anyone here tried using Skyfire? I'm using it now, and its about as close as one'll ever get to using a proper internet browser on your phone. Some things like text has to be still sorted out, but for the most part it works perfectly. Both Java and flash apps work, and the adverts for the mouse on the top of this page run through just as they would on a normal computer.

I love it, except for the lack of tabbed browsing and the lag when using the java and flash apps.
