I'd really like to get a cheap-ish internet connection, and I don't know where to get it from, or what I should get... I'm looking at a 3gig soft capped connection, does anybody know if I can get better than that for a reasonable price, or where I can get that cheaper? iBurst I think charge R490 Per month on a contract, including the modem

What kinds of speeds are you looking for and when do you expect to use the internet: all day or only after 6? Also, where are you located?

I pretty much want to use it all day, and I would like to be able to play online with my connection, so as fast as possible for the cheapest I can get it. And, I live in Kensington

If you can afford it, and I'm sure there are probably cheaper alternatives, then the Telkom option isn't that bad. I'm on a 4mb line with a 5 gig cap and I'm paying R710 all inclusive per month. Out of that 5 gig cap I probably use less than 2 gigs for online gaming in a month. So you could probably look at a 3 gig package which will be in the region of R500. Despite Telkoms bad rep, I haven't had too many issues and when I have had issues, the guys on their tech-support number are pretty good. I've even had technicians come round on a Sunday to sort an issue.

I just signed up with these guys today, they're based in Grahamstown.
www.imaginet.co.za
4m/s line - R405 pm
Data 3GB with unshaped bewtween 5pm and 7am - R205.
So if you already have your own modem it takes like 5 min to arrange an account, you don't sign any contract unless you want to pay off the router pm.
This data option is softcapped.

Good lines in some areas, but paper in some too. Make sure you have a decent Telkom cat come round. I’m on mweb at the moment but I’d advise using Telkom, only good things have been happening for those people. Like everyone I know.
You need to look at paying =-+-R600 a month for good speed and good cap. (by SA standards)
Buy your own router preferably an ADSL 2+ one. The linkSYS range and some good belkins run you about R800 even at incredible corruption.

Imaginet FTW! I'm with them and they have the friendliest and best customer support I've seen in a LONG time. Seriously. Actually, my last payment on the router is this month. \o/
I'm on Softcap as well, it's nice but you have to be self-disciplined. I've had bills of R1200, luckily I split it in half with my boss(I happen to live where I work).

Webafrica has exellent support and really good prices, you can chop and change the connection to your needs. I have 10gig local which I share with a friend for gaming and 2 gig international for which I pay R210 a month plus the R150 for line rental from telkom. Webafrica is also switching to the seacom network so hopefully we will see an even further price drop.
