My brother is busy searching for an Wireless Internet. My father uses 3g and my brother went to Vodacom and they said they have a 4g and he should rather get that. Is this a salesmen talking ? Or is 4g better than 3g ?

Sorry im not clued up at all about wireless networks and don't want him getting ripped off.

WiMax is the prelude to 4G. Yet iBurst has only recently set foot into this market, and I'm unsure of Neotel.

4G isn't technically available yet from what I can see; at least not a formal version that isn't related to WiMax.

Its probably a load of bull, since we're nowhere near rolling out a 4G network when we've just got 3.5G down to a T. What exactly is your brother looking for with regards to wireless internet?

Which store was this at? They were most probably trying to sell you iBurst from the sounds of it.

It was a Vodashop, , my dad has that 3G. The white little modem that you can put your sim card into. So my brother was also going to get that. We already tested it on CoD4, WoW and DotA. It runs all of them fine. So he was gonna get one also just to play on his off days. Should I just tell him to stick with the same 3G as my dad ? He justs wants something that can run those games and is super easy to travel with. At the moment he takes my dad's home every now and again to play.

Be wary when it comes to online gaming and wireless technologies. You may say that it runs fine (ping/latency wise, where a ping of 100 is considered playable, if barely), but you need to remember that gaming uses quite a bit of cap. About 20 megs an hour on COD4. Vodacom charges R2.00 a meg, so 20 x 2 = R40 for one hours worth of play (and this is being lenient).

If you've been watching the news you would have seen the massive debacle over our extremely high cellphone data rates (3G). These prices are due to come down, sometime, but no one knows when.

Also look at Neotel's offerings. Their tech is a viable option, but I don't know how it compares to 3G.

iBurst, on the other hand, is capable of playing the games you want, as this is what I used to use.

Well my dad pays like R200 for 500mb, my brother will literally only play ever 8 days for maybe 2 - 4 days. So Its more then enough I think. Chances are for 2 of those 4 days he will be over at our house using our ADSL.

Thanks for all the advice, ill give it all to him and he can decide for himself.
