Hi guys, on a lot of the techy stuff we buy there are always those yellow stickers with the crossed out dust bin. Where are we supposed to throw away old stuff that never gets used? Do we have such recycling facilities? Or do we just let the dust hopefully eat it away?

Give it to charities if it still works. It's what I do. I dunno where to take stuff to dump it though.

Give the stuff to me please. I will find a good home for your old hardware (actually i'll probably end up selling the stuff on Gumtree if it's crap)

I was wondering about this as well, seeing as my dad's got a ton of computer crap just lying there in the garage. I do recall Game having a promotion where they take in your old, working computer and give you R1000 off a new one, so perhaps we need to find out what they did with those old computers. Often a lot of the stuff gets compacted and trashed, so its a waste really. Dammit's idea is a good one, give working stuff to charity. Or sell it on auction, and let some other poor bastard decide what to do with it.

Well, I know alot of people who don't have the money to get their own pc, So usually when I upgrade I just give the old pc and parts to them, And old games? I keep them. I don't know why but I just don't give my games away.

Why not try sell it to Cash Crusaders? Its still a damn good card.

It kinda depends on what I'm getting rid off. I give my friends my unwanted PC hardware/ electronic stuffs. I pawn in my old games to either Cash Convertors or Cash Crusaders. They pay you peanuts, but I don't need the games, anyway. So it's no lost to me. My old clothes go to charity or workers, and any unusable electronic junk, goes straight to the garbage dump.

I build computers out of old PC parts from my main PC, when I upgrade. These old parts either go to upgrading my server or home computer. With the older parts, I build PCs and send them off to charities or I sell them to small companies.

My old PC stuff (read: junk) like small IDE HDDs, RAM, gfx cards etc. I tend to usually sell off to my friends or their relatives. I sold basically my whole old PC (mobo, gfx, cpu, psu, RAM) to my one friend's older brother for R300! o_O

Old clothes: Charity

Other stuff: Garbage can.

Save for me at next OC meet and greet. I often help build spare PC's for people who cant afford to buy new stuff.

I would love that card but it wouldn't last a day in my pc due to the messed up motherboard. :( Good topic as i have some spare memory chips from previous upgrades I would like to sell,a brand new keyboard still in its packaging as it was a replacement for my original keyboard that was killed by my psu and a ton of ide cables,etc...

Necro-post from hell, and you're advertising, but because you're a not-for-profit and you're doing some good, I'll let it slide.

This. I've never tossed anything away. Usually if something isn't useful for person A, person B might have a use for it. I install this there and that here, and before long everyone has working PC's, with old components.

For example, I used an old CPU (P4), motherboard (had the PCI-E slot popped) and my old RAM (bought new ones) to build a spare PC for the house. Perfect for music and movies, which is what my sister now uses it for. GPU went to the GF (and the other one to my cousin, and another to my little brother), old monitor went to my mother and the old case was turned into an amplifier housing by a buddy and stuck in his car's boot. PSU was disassembled and stuck in my cousin's room to power a car CD Front Loaded for use as a sound system.

Pretty "charity", but I've never forced something on someone. They're always just too willing to receive more stuffs.

EDIT: Didn't even notice the necro... :O

Incredible Connection also has a similar thing going, If you bring in your old hardware you get a discount on the same new item, I think it runs in the Month of February. Planning to do this with my 17" CRT Monitor.
