ohi

I was just wondering if anyone could assist in providing some feedback regarding this service provider.

I'm trying out one of the Axxess uncapped package next month, so if someone could compare the two, that would be great.

Specifically, I'm wondering if screamer is shaped or unshaped, since that seems to be the main missing info (I doubt it provides a static IP).

I read somewhere on a forum this morning that it's shaped to hell and a total waste of money. I can't find the relevant post now, though. :/

Screamer offers a unshaped package, and you can get a static IP if you really want one. Their service, unlike Axxess, offers the full line speed throughout the entire day, but only for the package you bought. So if you buy the 384 Unlimited bundle, you'll only ever get 384kb/s speeds. I'm in contact with a Screamer representative and the owner of Digichilli, so we'll see how things play out and what's required for either service.

Currently Digichilli wins because you can use one account over two ADSL lines, which means that you can even share your account with someone else, taking the price down to R250 for uncapped 384kb/s ADSL each. Pretty cool, hey?

Apparently the issues Screamer are having they are trying to sort out at the moment, hopefully it turns out to be a decent option because I'm really wanting to try them out.

We've been talking about it a bit in the Telkom NGN thread here (http://forums.tidemedia.co.za/nag/showthread.php?t=12291&page=6) .

Personally I like the Screamer idea more, with Digichilli you can share it with a friend sure, but up to a maximum of 512k, which if my math is correct means that if both you and your friend are busy with the line you'll both probably only get 256k speeds maximum.

I like the option of having a full on 384k all the time line, even if it is a bit more expensive.

I'm also very interested, but I'm waiting for all the bugs to be ironed out. If any of you get Screamer, report on its performance please.

Interesting. Would I be charged more if I requested a static IP?

Yeah, probably. The contention ratios are also a bit of a mystery, normally with prices this low you have to deal with high contention. But since this is Seacom and SAIX bandwidth mixed, there should be enough bandwidth for everyone.

Well at least things are changing and uncapped internet is almost very affordable.
