The short of it - they're stopping all current comics, rolling everything into two product lines (batman, superman), which are being released as manga-style thick compendiums (graphic novels, if you must), four a year.

These are all-new stories presented as book-size tales, rather than single-issue magazine length stories. They feature a continuity that will be shared amongst the line, and is all-new to DC's comic books as a whole. The first two announced books are the natural starting points, Superman: Earth One and Batman: Earth One. Both books will focus on a revised origin and "early years" story featuring the titular characters, with updates being made for today's time period and audience.

Superman: Earth One will be written by J. Michael Straczynski and drawn by artist Shane Davis. Batman: Earth One comes from scribe Geoff Johns and artist Gary Frank, the team whom are currently in the midst of re-establishing Superman's origin in the core DC Universe, the one that acknowledges the past 70 years of story to varying degrees.

Bottom line: J. Michael Straczynski! J. Michael Straczynski! J. Michael Straczynski! J. Michael Straczynski! J. Michael Straczynski! J. Michael Straczynski!

And if you don't know who J. Michael Straczynski is, shame on you, go to hell, you suck, serials.

Alfred is now an ex-Navy Seal, 65, who pretends to be cripple but isn't.

D.C isn't stopping the current universe of books, but creating a new universe without the current messed up continuity, kinda like what Marvel has with its ultimate universe.
J.M.S would write an awesome Superman though, his Thor run is fantastic.

You guys been reading the amazing DC Blackest Night event?
hehe, in last months issue of spider-man where he fights deadpool. Deadpool actually mentions blackest night. lol
Deadpool:"aaw! now the blackest night symbols i painted on my toes burned off!" "Remember spidey! In deadpool issue 19 We'll face again!"
Spider-man:" What the hell are you talking about?"

Anyway, DC did the all-star universe to counter the marvel ultimate universe a few years ago.
While all-star superman was brilliant, All-star Batman was horrible! Frank Miller has been going more and more insaine with his writing these last few years. Lets not forget about great moments like these:

Back to the point: Really looking forward to this new series from J. Michael Straczynski.

I will be picking it up however, as already mentioned, they will not be closing the current comics. Now I'm just waiting for a new Superman movie to be announced that isn't a rehash of Superman II.

Funny, I heard they would be closing the current multiple newstand lines, as they've not been profitable whatsoever.

I wonder what the huge blackest night sales spike will mean to this?

Superman only does 50k sales monthly but Batman has two books with over 100k monthly sales. Hopefully we don't get another set of origin stories, which take up a whole book.

Its their own fault for making crap like countdown and amazons attack.
Who can forget this great amazons attack moment: http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h238/phreaka2/bees.jpg Forget the joker! How will the GODDAM BATMAN even beat the deadly bee weapon!
