Well, I just saw Disaster Movie. No, the first 10 minutes of Disaster Movie. I feel retarded. What has happened to the good old parody? Does anybody else blame Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer for the painful, stuttering death of this genre?

I have to agree. Scary Movie 1 and 2 are 100000000000x better than all the ones that came after. What ever happened to movies like hot shots and anything with leslie nieslsen. The jokes in those movies were so much better thought out and had a clear purpose WITHOUT gratuitous toilet humour.

Scary Movie 3 is the closest to Hot Shots, Airplane and all those screwball movies from the 70s.

The problem is, these jokes are no longer jokes. They're merely references to other movies. Oftentimes not even references to bad parts in those movies, but just the most recognizable features.

Try "Don't Mess With The Zohan", actually. It's better than it looks.

The world needs more David Zucker :( And damn, Leslie Nielsen's already 80-something, so I doubt we'll be seeing much more of him. He should really be recognized by the institute for what he did to the parody genre. "Stick it up, I have a gun. It's not here, but I have one." One of my favourite lines of all time.

HUH!? Zohan was good but Scary movie 3 was 100% rubbish, especially when you compare it to the first two. It should never have left the hands of the Wayans brothers.

The first two we're kinda meh. Way too many **** jokes. Number 3 was clean ( by comparison) and funny. And Zohan was great. It becomes even funnier if you actually know arabs, because they are just like that :P. Hell, i can recall many times in my family where two males would go into the " no no no no no, I FEEL NO PAIN" argument. I think it's the best thing Sander has ever done.
And yea, the parody movies of today are just sad and terrible. It's really sad. You can see that (some of them) actually have decent jokes, but the delivery is so bloody fourth grade. It's a waste.

I think The third scary movie was the best of the bunch, since the others relied too much on sexual referances and **** jokes. Almost as bad as the Toilet humour you said you disliked in new parody films.
I have to say though my favourite Parody of all time must be "Robin Hood: Men in tights."

wer'e men -manly men- wer'e men in tights, we roam around the forest looking for fights...
i recall enjoying a parody of the blare witch project, zombie chef was awsome " this is your brain. this is your brain on alcohol. this is your brain on drugs. this is your brain with tomatoes. this is your brain with onions. this is zombie chef!
another good one was silence of the hams " ever wonder why the ham is so silent? how it just sits there not making a sound... unless its falling down a flight of stairs in which case it goes bomp dee bomp bump bump"
i really do miss old parodies, new ones don't have any life. then again there where a few older ones that made you walk out the cinema so maby this is just a phase.

I suppose if you like toilet humour... I liked Scary Movie 1+2 but when David Zucker blessed us with his talent in Scary Movie 3 it made it perfect.
Parodies are not what they used to be, I loved Airplane, Top Secret and even Spy Hard but that is the humour I enjoy. Ones where they make reference to movies in a funny light, not just to pervert that movie. Like seeing a drunk jack Sparrow in Epic Movie was just not funny. At all.
Humour that makes you concentrate to understand, like
"The captain wants to see you in the ****pit."
"What is it?"
"Well, its a little room where the pilot sits but that is not important right now"

I think the best Parody I have seen to date would have to be Spaceballs.

Often the funniest movies are those barely bordering on Parody, like Hot Fuzz or Tropic Thunder. What made Meet the Zohan such a success was that it was entirely fresh. No horrid references to crappy pop culture nobody cares abou anyway to be found there.

Wow, thanks for that Kensei. Completely agree as well. Like in Scary Movie 3: "Cindy! You're TV's leaking!"

I hate Scary Movie 2 as I was watching it with my uncle, who happens to be in a wheelchair. The guy with the crippled hand told the guy in the wheelchair 'I'll be the better man and walk away'. A very uncomfortable silence followed. I don't like it when movies make fun of disabled people.

Austin Powers was an awesome parody of the entire James Bond film franchise, especially if you rewatch the older films, Mike Myers was dead on.

No doubt that disaster movie was a flop, i remeber watching it and when the Amy Whinehouse burping non-stop and at that moment i knew that this was a load of hogwash!

I've also found that most comedies are a lot funnier when you watch it with friends/family. Maybe, it's just me, but I tend to laugh more when someone else is watching with me. It must be some kind of psychological subconcious thingy-ma-bobby.
But yeah, anyway, I haven't seen a good parody for a long time.
and when the Amy Whinehouse burping non-stop !
She was burping thought she was singing , sorry my bad ,but it sounds the same

I'm not a big fan of todays parody movies. I cringed when I watched Disaster movie, Meet the Spartans and Epic movie. What utter garbage. I prefer the older parody movies like, Airplane, Spaceballs, Hot Shots!, Robin Hood: Men in tights, Austin Powers, Scary Movie 1, The Naked Gun, Dracula: Dead and Loving it...etc.
When I want to watch a funny parody show, I'll watch Robot Chicken. That's parody done right, imo.

Epic Movie, Meet the Spartans, Disaster Movie. These 3 movies ruined parody Movies for me. :(

Indeed, I can atest to this. At first I thought it was stupid, but as I watched it, I found myself laughing at the rediculously corney jokes.

Good parodies can still be made. The first Austin Powers kicked ass, but the following ones got a bit stale. The original Scary Movies weren't masterpieces, or even very good, but they were far better than their sequels because they did not attempt to get a PG-13 rating, something all movie series seem to be doing nowadays (Terminator, Police Academy, and many more). Scary Movie 3 was still good however, unlike the horror that was Scary Movie 4.
Probably my favourite parody is Blazing Saddles which pokes fun at Western films and their lack of racism.
