#6. "James Bond" Is Not a Man, But a Code Name

#5. Zion Is Part Of The Matrix

Hit up the article for the full explanations, it's quite fun.

Heh, the Ferris Bueller's Day Off one actually makes a lot of sense.

I remember a theory that was floating around years ago, about Pulp Fiction. Supposedly, Marsellus Wallace had made a deal with the Devil, who had extracted his soul, in payment, through the back of his neck, hence we see him with a band aid over that spot when we're introduced to the character. Wallace then sends Vincent and Jules to retrieve his soul, the glowing object in the suitcase, from those guys eating burgers. He thereby cheats the Devil. Tarantino, however, has denied this is the case, saying that the suitcase is simply a plot device. It's a cool idea though.

with reference to the james bond code name I recall a satire of casino royal that was made yonks ago. what happend in the story was that M was killed and bond became head of mi6, he then changed everyones code name to james bond so as to confuse specter.

Do you mean a seperate satire movie or that first Casino Royale movie everyone pretends never existed because it was so awful? Yes, Die Another Day sucked holy - I also enjoy spoting all the continuity errors.

I remember at the end of Reloaded many people said "God, I hope Zion ISN'T the matrix too" so, though it'd make more sense it would have been too predictable.

Ferris Buellers Day Off makes so much sense now! Also that Radio Flyer (never seen) sounded like that theory fitted the strange ending.

Total Recall seems fine, I don't see how pulling a double "Memory Vacation" would have made the movie better.

From that article I followed the link to the 7 most horrifying scenes in Childrens Movies -hilarious XD

I've always preferred the discussions that Miktar and I had about Revolutions and Reloaded. The Zion-is-another-Matrix theory seemed way too trite... The question we asked was what if the machines had messed with humans, bioengineering them to produce more current while plugged in?

The Architect already mentions that Neo is part genetic-construct and part code, he's needed to balance out the system. Perhaps that makes Neo able to utilise an electromagnetic sense or ability that comes with the bioengineering that humanity has been through. (Heck, maybe it's simple evolutionary selection for electrically sensitive humans over time) Hence Neo being able to unleash his "stored" energy that would usually be siphoned off by the cocoons as a sort of EMP - and why this totally knocks him out physically. Maybe his stronger attunement to the Matrix as a physical understanding of code means that he senses its radio signals and is thus able to jack in without a transmitter.

Smith-as-Bane is able to use this electromagnetic ability similarly (to set off an EMP as Bane and protect himself from the machines he senses are coming) because he's programmed to learn environments and to fully utilise what he's got available as an Agent. So he learns the human body, finds the latent ability and triggers it. This goes some of the way towards explaining how Neo could "see" Smith electromagnetically overlaid over Bane. Smith was projecting his own codebase. Smith didn't have the same raw affinity for this electromagnetic sense as Neo though, because Bane is just a normal copper-top human, not The (genetically enhanced) One. While Neo could sense machines from a distance, protect himself with mini-EMPs (the flight scene, which explains why it's so draining to him) and even mentally interact with code via his One understanding, Bane's body simply couldn't.

Anyway, none of these interesting Reloaded theories were expanded on in Revolutions, but it they weren't too stomped on (besides Neo seeing Smith overlaid on Bane) and generally make the movie a more interesting headspace to play in...

Ugh. The Matrix movies are such a load of ****. It's nothing personal, but really - discussing the profundities of the Matrix is like discussing the profundities of a puddle of cold sick on the pavement.

The Ferris Bueller one's a cool idea, actually. And I think that the James Bond one, while totally obvious, should be assumed by directors simply because it makes so much convenient sense. :P

No personal offense taken - it doesn't really matter if you think discussing The Matrix is like discussing the profundities of a puddle of cold sick on the pavement: because you thinking that doesn't magically invalidate all the fun hours we wasted doing it, and the insightful comments that resulted from it, irrespective of your personal opinion. :P

You know what the funniest part was? Not once in the discussion were we talking about the philosophical repercussions of being inside a computer, MAN! We were far more interested in the setting for the setting's sake than the "I want to be Neo!" trench coat angle ;)

Totally. We're just that shallow. I like to wear a trenchcoat and sunglasses indoors and proclaim to know what's really going on behind the world.

I think if that was true if would have made the movie worse. Pulp Fiction was a realistic fiction movie, and I don't think any fantasy elements had their place in it.
