Redmond (WA) - It's no longer a big surprise, but Nintendo's console once again sold more units than the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 combined, during the month of June.

According to NPD's latest data, the Wii was the top selling next-gen home console system, with 380,000 units sold last month. The Xbox 360 took its usual #2 spot with 198,000 units and the PS3 lagged behind once again with only 98,000.

Thanks to the pending discontinuation of the 60 GB PS3 and the associated price drop, the console's sales numbers were higher than previous months. May, for example, saw PS3 sales of around 82,000 units.

The Playstation 2, however, continues to sell very well. Around 270,000 units of the seven-year-old system were sold during the month of June, putting it ahead of the Xbox 360.

On the handheld side, the DS scored exceptional sales again as well. 561,000 units of the dual-screen system were sold last month. Sony's PSP showed a bit of a surge, though it was still well behind the Nintendo competitor. Around 290,000 PSP units made their way to consumers in June.

Nintendo backed up its high console sales by scoring well in software sales as well. The four top selling games in June were all first-party Nintendo titles with Mario Party 8 (426,000), Wii Play (293,000), Pokemon Diamond (288,000), and Pokemon Pearl (214,000). Microsoft managed to be the only other company to make it on the top five with the Xbox 360's Forza Motorsport at #5 with 197,000 copies sold.

Further down the list, Nintendo also nabbed the #6 and #7 positions. Pokemon Battle Revolution made it just behind Forza 2 with 157,000 copies, with Resident Evil 4 for the Wii hitting 150,000.

I'm seriously craving one of these. If theres going to be constant releases of cool games I'm going to get this, whether it's official or not.

Wow, the PS2, very impressive. Looks like some people aren't ready to make the move to next gen.

I'm just curious, how long do you guys think Sony will still develope games for the PS2? There must surely be a point in time where they will start to focus more on the PS3 than the PS2.

Ok, but the artical says that it's just a rumour for now. You work for Tidemedia, do you know what Nu Metro wants to do with all the space? I don't want to get my hopes high.

I can't see why Nu Metro wouldn't, the Wii is a world wide success.

I don't know who the distributor is, nothing has been announced. If something was announced, I would come make a post about it here. Until then, just relax already.

If it is true, they can have one seriously mega launch. The anticipation for the Wii is so high, its not even funny.

EA says it made a mistake by not paying more attention to Wii

Mountain View (CA) - Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello admitted that the company should have spent more time working on the Wii instead of focusing on the PS3 and Xbox 360.

At an investor meeting, Riccitello reportedly said, "One of the biggest challenges, of course, was that not a lot of people anticipated the success of Nintendo that they’ve shown with their wand controller and their Wii."

EA recently ended its 2007 fiscal year, calling it the "toughest year in the company's history." Riccitello said the company jumped on the "wrong horse" by devoting most of its time on the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3, which competed with the Wii for launch sales last year.

EA's list of Wii launch titles was short, consisting of sports game ports Madden NFL 07 and Need For Speed Carbon. After Nintendo's console became such a phenomenon, the publisher quickly purchased partner company Headgate Studios to develop exclusively for the Wii.

Now EA has a strong devotion to the Wii and has been confirmed as the first third-party publisher to tap into the Wii's full online gaming platform.

EA is currently working on two known exclusives for the Wii - an unnamed puzzle game under the direction of Steven Spielberg, and a collection of mini-games called EA Playground.
