With E3 fever picking up, we're already starting to hear some amazing leaks about new announcements. Here's another one to chew on: A reliable source has indicated that Namco and Capcom are working together on a Tekken vs Street Fighter game. Even better: It could be announced as soon as E3.
This isn't the first time that Namco and Capcom have collaborated. In the past, they worked on Namco X Capcom, which was an action RPG game released on the PS2.

It's only natural that these two powerhouse developers of the best fighting game series are finally making the ultimate fighting game. Both companies in recent years have really gone out of their way to cater to fans of this genre. Namco threw some extra Star Wars characters into Soul Calibur, and Capcom of course has been doing big crossovers for sometime now. They recently announced a new Marvel vs Capcom game in the works as well.
Funny, it was only a couple of weeks ago that we were basking in the awesomeness of Tatsunoko vs Capcom, and speculating on what great VS concept Capcom should tackle next for a fighting game. Ironically enough, our wishlist was half done in jest because our heads would have explode

I think Soul Calibur would suit Tekken more.

I don't think Tekken suits anything, but that's me.

I'm not sure how this is going to work. Street Fighter is more about getting the combos right and killing your opponent as soon as possible. Tekken has always felt slower and more deliberate to me.

Street Fighter is 30% about combos. Tekken is 80% about command-string combos.
But, if it's distilled down to MvC or TvC style, either game's style don't matter - it becomes the style of the VS. series.

This just wont work for me.... Sf has too many long range attacks

I dunno, I've always been able to beat Tekken by button mashing, where as Street Fighter 4 sends me to hell for button mashing.

Graal unless you're playing with Eddy or that that chick (his daughter or something).
Tekken is to me the most technical fighter.
Come on SC and VF fanboys and bash me!
EDIT: Tekken Tag is still the best fighter ever

Oh ffs, this isn't going to turn into an X vs Y debate, I'll start banning.
The most technical fighter is VF5 anyway, Mr. TiNRiB - even Tekken fans say so.

I'm trying to point out how stupid the whole idea is. There are VERY few fighting games you can put in direct competition with each other, since they're each a very different design and system for their own reasons, neither one is better or worse than each other in the gestalt. Super Smash Bros Brawl is every bit the fighter that Street Fighter, Dead or Alive, Tekken or Soul Calibur is, for example.
As for "Tekken is to me the most technical fighter", that neglects to even highlight what *is* technical to you? Button combinations? Depth of systems? And if so, what kind of depth - outwards, or top-laden? Etc, etc.
It's like saying 'I like to drive fast cars', but while everyone is thinking you mean F1, what you really mean is Nascar, or RC cars...
I just don't see the point of even bringing it up.

If we had to put tekken with something it would probably be DOA imho. Tekken is probably one of the easiest fighters for a new player to get into, even naruto and dbz is a bit harder to start with. I could never figure out Street Fighter so no idea how the two will cross over.

This is surprising.
I'm interested to see how they intend on merging the two fighting mechanics to work in a single universe. Street Fighter and Tekken are two very different games. I agree with Miktar, in that, it will probably be a casual-friendly VS style mechanic. But, even with that, it's going to be interesting to see how they handle the projectile heavy SF characters. Are they going to strip the SF cast of their powers or opt to power-up the Tekken cast instead? The latter would be more in line with the VS series. We'll just have to wait and see.

Aren't vs. games completely and utterly over the top most of the time anyway ?
I expect to see Paul Pheonix shooting Law out of a giant man sized cannon with Ling Xaiou dancing on his head, whilst 20 Yoshimitsus lazer sword stab your ass from every which way and it only producing minor damage.
Cause you know... that'd be pretty freakin epic.

I was going to type something but I kinda forgot what it was after imagining the above. :D
