This year when you go and collect your official NAG LAN ticket from Computicket, you will also be given a second ticket which is your official parking pass - do not lose it, or you won't be able to park in the free LAN parking area."

Last year there was a parking area allocated for the people going to the lan. I am pretty sure the same thing will happen this year, and parking in this area will obviously be on a first come first service. Also there were car guards there so You can be sure that your car will be looked after if they do the same thing this year.
and yes your ticket does serve as your pass.

The one thing is though if the admins care to recognize that it is happening or not scalping is happening and it does each year.
Unfortunately for those of us that just want our tickets to go, but for reasons whatever may be for each.
We have to resort to getting tickets in such means.
For some of us it is not about the money, but more about the support of gaming in South Africa and the wanting to nothing more than game.

agreed, its amazing that some readers/members would sink that low too try make a quick buck of such a well organised and funded event, the work that goes into such an event in uncomprehendable for some, and this small but rather irratating problem is just getting worse each year, you just have too type in "Nag lan" in gumtree and you will find these fools selling tickets almost double the price, its just not fair for those who really want too attend but finances is a problem.
resorting too this method too obtaining a ticket is out of desperation and just down right wrong, yes you are gng too rage but enabling you too get there you had too do something which is looked down on. but hey if you want too do that , go ahead and hope u get caught.

To everyone who complains about tickets selling out and then turns to the scalpers for support: stop being so short-sighted. Don't you understand that you supporting these idiots just leads to an increase in scalping? It's supply and demand, people. The more you make it known that you're willing to pay these people stupid amounts of money for a ticket, the more they'll charge and the more they'll figure out ways to buy large numbers of tickets. Sure, you might not get a ticket this year, but refusing to buy a scalper's ticket now means that they will be less inclined to attempt this next year. We cannot stop it from happening without putting seriously inconvenient measures into place (which just irritate the legitimate buyers), so it's as much your responsibility as it is ours.
I will keep an eye on this and any other forum for ticket requests or otherwise. If you offer to buy or sell a ticket at an inflated price, your post will be edited/deleted and your account may be banned. As always, we'll be working with the admins of other forums to reduce the impact of ticket scalping as much as possible.
This is not something that's up for discussion. It's irritating and it's against Computicket's terms of use. End of story.
With regards to the parking, we will sort something out. Don't stress about that.
Edit: oh, on a related note: if anyone sees anyone who's attempting to sell tickets at an inflated price, please contact me directly (geoff at nag dot co dot za) and we'll hunt them down with spears and pitchforks.
4rch4ng3l
02-08-2010, 12:46 PM
Geo not trying to discuss it.
Just want to have a last saying that i also believe that it is disgracefull how these guys are biting out the average joe to go through to rage.
Those inconvenient measures you guys are talking about might not be as bad a idea if you way up the possible good that it could bring to the lan for next year.
lol its the same every year and there is nothing that can be done about it. I always wonder though why you guys just didnt buy them when they went on sale? You know they sell fast, you know exactly when they go on sale, im guessing you all have internet so what was the issue? If the scalpers got their tickets that means you could have got yours. Thats the way i see it anyway.
What Geo says is also 100% true, the more you support them the more they will carry on doing it so in the end whether you get to go to rage or not you are still losing out.
GeometriX
02-08-2010, 01:06 PM
Okay, here's the official policy:
If you have extra tickets, you may sell them directly to us at a cost of R300 per ticket. We will organise delivery/collection at our own cost.
If you didn't manage to get a ticket and are desperately looking for one, we will sell you one at a cost of R300 per ticket. In this case, you will likely need to organise delivery/collection. This is provided that we have extra tickets to sell, of course.
In both cases, please contact Lauren Das Neves at lauren at nag dot co dot za. The sooner you contact her with your sob stories, the higher up the list you'll be.
This is in the interest of gaming culture and a healthy, well-attented LAN. It's in everyone's interest to have as many bums on seats, but we refuse to allow ticket scalping to ruin this fantastic event for anyone. Additionally, if you have any leads on possible scalping, please contact Lauren.

Tickets went fast this year, I agree with this, they are killing the event if this continues, I am very glad they actually brought the cost down of the event from R350 to R300, it's not much I know, but we are 3 guys from newcastle and it all ads up. We still need to find a place to stay though, but thats another issue.....we might end up staying at the dome and the sleeping thing under the table.....never the less, this will be my 5th year, 3rd attending the LAN, guys and girls, get ready for a awsum event, a pat on the back for the event staff and organisers......
oh and VC for hosting the LAN.......the count is 59 days.......

If the tickets sold out within 24 hours then there is obviously a large demand for this event? Lets not kid ourselves the expo at rAge has not been its greatest these past few years so why not focus on the main attraction which is THE NAG LAN AT RAGE where you see people from all over the country coming to LAN in one place. Let the scalpers sit there with there tickets and increase the capacity to a much larger amount after all there still is a HUGE demand? You could take this LAN to 5000 people and fill up the entire event based on the ticket sales, 2000 tickets in a day!? Why aim for 'largest LAN in the southern hemisphere'? Aim for largest LAN EVER. Ofcourse organizing something of this magnitude requires money and support and sponsors and etc but that's what 300 rand per person is for no? Any reply would be greatly appreciated thank you :)
phant1m
02-08-2010, 06:26 PM
Uhm, Tidemedia can only go so far since it would mean getting a new venue to go bigger and they cant skimp on expo as that is their main focus and where a lot of income to offset comes from.
But yeah in later years we should see some really awesome stuff.
VeXeN
02-08-2010, 06:59 PM
I have no doubt that up to 5000 people could be squeezed into the Dome, but the logistics and sponsorship (especially from a network side) would be rather large, very possible in the future, but no sense in complaining about what could be and what is.
I bought two tickets, the one is for a friend who may or may not be able to attend, depending on how he reacts to his new epilepsy treatments (not caused by gaming, hahah). If he does not take the ticket and i don't give it to another friend then i will gladly give it back to the NAG staff....rather valiant of them actually.
I agree with GeometriX, cut the demand and you negate the supply. They have made the effort to expand the lan basically every year, its just become more and more popular.
See ya all there!
Tankiouse
02-08-2010, 07:21 PM
Yeah having a big LAN is not easy as it requires alot of money, meters of cable, tons of top quality servers and skilled staff who know what they are doing *cough* VC *cough* and besides if they take out the expo most likely every1 would get bored, i mean who can LAN for 53hours straight? So scrapping the expo would be a BAD idea.
BattleMoose
02-08-2010, 07:58 PM
We cannot stop it from happening without putting seriously inconvenient measures into place (which just irritate the legitimate buyers), so it's as much your responsibility as it is ours.
Personally I think its time for the super inconvenient measures, hope you guys at NAG start seriously considering it.
Tickets selling out in a day and a half is really very extreme.
VeXeN
02-08-2010, 09:05 PM
and besides if they take out the expo most likely every1 would get bored, i mean who can LAN for 53hours straight? So scrapping the expo would be a BAD idea.
Haha, im sure there are plenty of people that would be willing to put your 53 hours straight claim to the test. But true nonetheless. Less from the boredom and more from the lack of jailbait that companies use to promote their goods :p
Jokes aside the expo is needed as it draws crowds and attention, this is why people have their displays up, if companies can gain more exposure and therefore business or market recognition then they will also be more willing to sponsor bigger events, its a symbiotic relationship, which has thus far worked; if it aint broke, don fix it.
I am divided on the imposition of limits on tickets per person, as much as i think it to be a good thing and to hopefully cut back on scalping, it can (as stated before) also hurt legitimate people who are buying group bookings. Even after imposing limits, there is nothing stopping a scalper from enlisting a friends help to buy his extra hoard.
The only solution that can work, is if tickets are allocated to and ID number for example and have to changed via the NAG offices, so if someone is caught scalping they can be barred from purchasing tickets again, but even this is not a fail-proof deterrent; not to mention the extra strain put on NAG staff and once again the end users.
I still hold true to cutting off the demand, but desperation is such that alternatives are considered.
As far as being upset at tickets being sold out in +/- 24 hours...really?
All that shows is the events growth and popularity, ensuring future events, yes it sucks not to get a ticket, but now next time you will make a better plan?
Instead of ragging the mods to release more tickets and impose bans, why not work with them to maybe organise a second event even if its on a smaller scale? Who knows it more than likely will grow?
Just my opinion people.
Laterz.

The space will be too big a problem to increase a lan and still run an expo. I agree with Tankiouse about the expo. It is the reason why the lan began all those years back and the lan isnt about more people, its about having fun. And im quite shure the dome wont be able to support the amount of power that would be needed for a bigger lan, especially at the size that people would want it. Maby first come first served is a motivation enough to sell out this early.
willbeonekenobi
02-08-2010, 09:46 PM
I think that some of the blame that some people had bought more than the required tickets is with COMPUTICKET itself. If you go onto their website, you can buy as many as 20 tickets if you could. If they had imposed the 5 ticket limit on their systems then we would not really have a problem. Also tickets apparently went on sale HALF AN HOUR EARLIER THAN THEY SUPPOSED TO HAVE ON THE WEBSITE.
Sure if someone wanted more than the required for a legitimate reason (like say bring the whole family along for example) Then i'm sure that someone would be willing to purchase them an extra ticket or two (provided that this other person doesn't go over the limit).
Personally I'm glad that the lan sold out bloody quickly (a little under 36 hours I believe).
