Warner Bros. today confirmed the title and release window for the next Batman videogame developed by Rocksteady Studios. It's called Batman: Arkham City and it's coming next fall to PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.

As the title implies, Batman is headed to Gotham City for the sequel, which has now become the new maximum security "home" for all of the city's criminals. Not much else was revealed. WB says the game will feature a brand-new story, include a new cast of classic characters and villains, and new enhanced gameplay features.

The (amazing) covers of the new GameInformer confirms Catwoman will be in Arkham City, and by the looks of it, will be playing a major role in the story.

Arkham City was one of several names registered for the game picked up on last month. Two other confirmed villains so far include Mr. Freeze, played by voice actor Maurice LaMarche, and Talia al Ghul - daughter of Ra's al Ghul - played by actress Stana Katic.

Actor Mark Hamill confirmed to us in an interview last May he'll be reprising his role as the voice of Joker for the game for the last time ever. "This will be my last, there's no question about that," he said. "But it's the last hurrah."

I came.

05-08-2010, 06:59 PM
YES! Lets hope that this time, we get to cruise around Gotham in the batmobile.

****, I might even play this game in a Batman mask.

Take note that this isn't taking place in the ENTIRE city, merely one cordoned off district of the city.

So, yeah, it will be larger, but don't expect gta/prototype/just cause 2 scaling here :P

I can actually appreciate that, as open-world games tend to lose some of their charm when the scale is just too big.

Even if the city block is the same size as the original Arkham Asylum, that's still a pretty big place to explore.

Ooooh, the music in the trailer just gave me MAD goose bumps. Can't wait! \:D/

Yay! Moar trailers pweaze! :D I'm tired of masturbating to the debut trailer again and again :(

Sweet. I'm looking forward to this. Batman: AA, was pure love. I read that the sequel will be very dark in nature. So, hopefully, they'll include some more of those startling, surreal instances, that they had in the first game. Those were some of the most memorable parts of AA, imo. It sucks, that this will be the last time Mark Hamill voices Joker. He's done such a phenomenal job in bringing the character to life. It's kinda sad to see him leave the franchise, after so many years. I'm gonna miss that ol Jedi.

06-08-2010, 08:49 AM
Well his voice is in the DC Universe Online game aswell, which i WILL buy. Would be nice if they could add a sidekick to the game, ala Nightwing. Even if he just comes in with his jet and blows up doors or something.

Simply can't wait. I don't say this lightly, but Batman AA is one of my all time favourite games. So while we've all known it was coming, each new peice of news whetts my appetite a little more.

The Penguin confirmed for Batman: Arkham City

Rocksteady's Dax Ginn sits down with the Australian Sunday Herald and finally spills the beans on The Penguin.

Many people had guessed penguin would be featured in the game: one of the early trailers revealed the iceberg lounge, the trendy nightclub owned by Oswald Cobblepot, aka the penguin. He will definitely be one of the big bads you will face, introduced after you solve one of Riddler's puzzles. The first thing Penguin does is order his minions to kill batman, as any self-respected villain would. according to Ginn, putting a slightly different spin on such an established character was one of the highlights for the Rocksteady team. " The way that penguin has always been portrayed is as quite an aristocratic, well-spoken gentleman who's got these twisted delusions of grandeur" he says. "So we've made him a really horrible, nasty piece of work - but still with the delusion of grandeur. He dresses well, but in a poor taste, and we've made him this brutish, brutal guy but also key into collection fascination that hes had through out the years.

It wasn't only Penguin that got a run-down though, here's what they had to say about Catwoman. "The attitude of this Selena kyle is closer to that of the late, great Eartha Kitt from the cult 60's tv show: strong, confident, sexy and independent. comic book nerds will notice Arkham city's catwoman appears to have been designed in the style of adam hughes's covers from the third catwoman series, a feature rocksteady hoped people would spot."

Dax Ginn on Penguin's goons - "Penguin's faction is much more about the collection that he has within his museum of all sorts of things but one of those things he collects is heavily artillery. so when you come up against his thugs in the street they are all going to have seriously heavy weapons and that develops throughout the game as well."

In the comic books, Bruce Wayne takes a night off to go to the circus, only to witness the shocking "accident" that ends the Flying Graysons. The lone survivor is the Graysons' acrobatic son. Wayne takes him in as his ward, eventually reveals his secret cave, and soon enough the two become the famed Dynamic Duo.

During a demo for Batman: Arkham City, we caught sight of a poster. It advertised the Flying Graysons, with the words "cancelled" stamped across it. The tragedy has already happened. But how long ago? It seems likely that young **** Grayson is now under the care of Bruce Wayne, but it's uncertain if he's already assumed the role of Robin.

You may have caught this poster quickly passing by in the most recent Batman: Arkham City Trailer. Now we have a clear view of the poster and a number of evasive answers from Game Manager Dax Ginn, who agreed that a "tragedy" did happen to the poor Graysons and their show has "most definitely been cancelled."

This could mean **** Grayson or Robin might show in Batman: Arkham City or it could be a tease for a third Batman game, one that features the Dynamic Duo. We probably won't have that answer for some time. After all, Batman: Arkham City isn't even out yet. Expect it in October, when we'll at least know if **** Grayson or his alter ego will make an appearance in 2011.

Heh, a game with both Batman and Robin, using drop-in drop-out co-op would be awesome.

26-05-2011, 05:42 PM
Yesterday we got our first glimpse of the Penguin in Batman: Arkham City. Today, we have a few more details.

In an article in the UK edition of PSM3 magazine, Rocksteady's Dax Ginn talks about how DC gave the developer a lot of latitude when it came to the characterisation of Batman's iconic rogues' gallery, and that while Penguin retains the squat silhouette of Oswald Cobblepot he's "a nastier piece of work."

It's a noticeable difference, with Penguin's effete cigarette holder replaced by a fat cigar and the monocle by a cracked bottle-end, which Ginn claims is "too dangerous to remove - but he likes it". He also appears to have some kind of voicebox surgically inserted into his throat - could this be a subtle anti-smoking message from Rocksteady?!

Whatever, the biggest and potentially most controversial difference is the portrayal of the Penguin as a cockney geezer. Held up within the Gotham City's Natural History Museum, the Penguin introduces himself to Batman "as something of a collector," in a brash London accent, which is a far cry from previous incarnations of Oswald Cobblepot we've seen.

The article also revealed some other interesting tweaks in Arkham City's gameplay. For starters, Batman will be able to perform multiple parries; in the first game thugs would obligingly attack Batman one-by-one instead of piling in, but in Arkham City the Dark Knight can parry up to three attacks at once.

Arkham Asylum's powerful Detective Mode will be restricted in the sequel too, so it can't be exploited in the same way as in the original. "If you turn it on," says Ginn, "you see the pertinent things, but other than that there's little detail, so there's no great advantage from just playing in detective mode."

Also, as befitting the world's greatest detective, Arkham City will feature more demanding puzzles for The Dark Knight to solve, rather than a series of trails for him to follow.

21-06-2011, 09:15 AM
To be clear, he'll only be playable for the challenge mode, and that's only to pre-orders, possible gamestop pre-orders. But I have no doubt that he'll feature in the main game too.

21-06-2011, 06:28 PM
From what I herd, Robin will be in the game but those who pre-ordered will have early access to him.

Rocksteady's community manager, Sarah May has posted up a FAQ answering some of the Robin queries currently circulating the web. The FAQ has also revealed that Black Mask will have a 'presence' in Arkham City, this comes after Best Buy's announcement that one of their exclusive challenge maps will be 'Black Mask's Hideout'. The answers also rule out any console exclusive content, something that was featured previously in Arkham Asylum with Joker's challenge rooms.

1. Which Robin is it?
Tim Drake

2. Does this mean there will be Co-Op?
It absolutely does not, Arkham City remains a strong single player experience

3. Where can I play as Robin?
In ALL Challenge maps

4. What is different about Robin?
As with all characters in the Arkham City Universe, he has his own very unique set of gadgets and moves

5. Where is it available?
Pre-Order Bonus from Best Buy in North America

6. What about [insert country here]?
We have only announced the North American retailer, we WILL be announcing EU/US/Canadian partners as soon as they are confirmed.

7. What platforms is he playable on?
PC, Xbox 360, PS3

8. What about the 2 challenge maps?
These are 2 exclusive maps that come with Robin: Black Mask Hideout and Freight Train Escape

9. What does Black Mask's Hideout mean?
Black Mask has a presence in Arkham City

10. Will we get any more images of Robin?
I am looking into this now and will let you know asap

Seriously, I hope there is a Steam special because Arkham Asylum is one of the BEST games I have ever played. Combat is fluid, puzzles are nice and gadgets are just AMAZING!
Really hope you get to play it Chevron it is amazing.

ON TOPIC: Any multiplayer? Not sure how that would work but hey they made it work in Brotherhood.

I need to second this. Above all the shine and polish this game has another element that stood out for me was the pace. It's a stealth game yet it never feels like one. You're entering and executing a scenario in a stealthy manner but it's action packed, fast, clean and quite.

Fokken brilliant.

23-07-2011, 01:08 AM
I haven't got the slightest idea, but I guess it will be between R1000 and R1200. It's expensive, but Batman.

23-07-2011, 01:15 AM
It's so unfair cauz in the US, it's going for $99

23-07-2011, 01:48 AM
I've already pre-ordered my collector's edition. I'm not 100% sure what the price will be but I know that they are very limited. Not like other games so called "Limited Edition" where they still have hundreds after the game is launched. BT Games are already sold out of the collectors on PS3. Also, the people making the Batman statue makes really good quality statues. So it won't won't a piece of cheap plastic.

23-07-2011, 03:18 AM
I'm worried about this - well, I'm worried as I type this, but likely won't be when I've sent it.

Arkham Asylum was so... superb. In every way. Like a perfectly baked cake. Not just the recipe that made it, but so many things just came together beautifully. Arkham City is... a sequel. Naughty word. Can they improve on it? If they do, does that make the original less appealing? As much as dislike the god of war series, I hope this goes in that direction: sequels that stick to the formula and don't sacrifice quality for new unwanted gimmicks.

From left to right;

Batman Beyond, er, Batman

The Dark Knight Returns Batman

Current Batman costume in Mainstream continuity, or Batman Incorporated Batsuit

1970's Batman, Neal Adams design

Batman The Animated series Batman

And last, just regular Ol' Arkham Asylum/City Batman

02-08-2011, 08:20 PM
I am seriously considering making that pic a huge poster and putting it up somewhere. It's gorgeous.

02-08-2011, 08:30 PM
It is a really nice poster but I've already got two Batman poster in my room. A 3D framed one of The Dark Knight and another one which I got from the cinema that is about 5m in length and about 2m in width. It's massive, it has Batman in the middle, Two Face on the one side and the Joker on the other side.

Its this one here and trust me when I say this, its massive:

Anyhow, back on topic. I hope that those skins are not pre-order exclusives for EB Games or other places in the UK. That would suck.

02-08-2011, 09:18 PM
Anyone mind pointing out what all the other ones are?

I know that the first one is from Batman Beyond, also known as Batman of the Future. I only know this because I used to watch it on KTV when I was younger :)

Aaaaah! It looks better than I expected. Especially the S&M face.

Batman Beyond wasn't terrible. It wasn't batman, though, it was something else. For a 'kids' show, it was also remarkably seedy, showing some less pleasant high school scenes, among other things. Overall, I felt it was a little too dark, though. Too cold.

Lunch with Rocksteady : Lighting Artist
Hi all,

Another sneak peak into the Rocksteady development team, this time with Abelardo Polonio one of our awesome lighting artists.

What is your role within Rocksteady?

I work as a Lighting artist at Rocksteady. Lighting has become a very important part of the game development process in the last few years and a defining element of the game’s visuals . Techniques are shifting towards a more cinematic implementation of lighting, materials and postprocess. My job involves making sure everything is consistent lit throughout the game and work both from artistic and technical standpoint.

How long have you worked at Rocksteady?

I have been here for 9 months.

What made you want to work here?

The biggest thing is the opportunity to make highly successful games while keeping a small company vibe and familiar environment. Also, being a part of a seasoned team in which everyone pulls their weight and has very clear ideas on how to make good games.

What is your day to day like?

There is always something different to my daily experience so I never feel there is a routine but rather a more freeform division of tasks. Depending on the stage of the project, I will be lighting certain areas of the game, polishing things where needed or fixing bugs and different technical issues that might arise at any given time. It is very much a constant interaction with the other departments to making sure everything is as neat as possible. There is also a good deal of camaraderie around so I never get bored at work!

Describe Arkham City

Arkham City is the integral gaming experience and a benchmark for this type of games. It has something to appeal to everyone and every element is beautifully crafted. The city is a dark, gritty and atmospheric environment which will pull you in from the get go. However, it is not all cosmetic since the depth of the gameplay and maturity of the storyline are unique so the game is likely to be remembered for years to come!

If you could share anything about your experience working on the game, what would it be?

Working on something you truly love is on itself really satisfying, That moment of pride when you step back and see the game taking shape after all those months of hard work is priceless. The feedback we get from the community is very encouraging!

Game informer goes Hands-on with Catwoman

Rocksteady says that Catwoman is about twice as fast as Batman but approximately half as strong. I’ll save you the math, and just say that she plays very differently from Batman.

Because Catwoman is so nimble, her takedowns are a bit more spectacular to watch than Batman’s. While he’s happy to knock a few skulls together and call it good, Catwoman’s equivalent attacks incorporate handsprings and stiletto-heeled kicks. One of my favorite maneuvers was to counter an opponent’s attack, hop onto his shoulder, and then stun him while using him as a springboard to the next foe. Batman is definitely competent in battle, but I have to say I had a lot more fun with Catwoman.

In a predator mission called Meltdown Mayhem, I had to take out a series of thugs on patrol in an industrial area. It was a nice counterpoint to the fast-paced combat challenge. This mission was about being methodical and taking my time. Catwoman’s weakness is clear when she faces armed opponents; a few shots will reduce her health to one quarter of its maximum. I found that I didn’t rely on detective vision here as much as I did in Arkham Asylum. When I did activate it, it was just for a second or to so I’d know where the enemies were.

Catwoman can use gargoyles as perches, much like Batman can. The difference is that some of them require her to cling onto the wall below the statue and then make a couple of quick leaps to get into position. During that time, you’re exposed. I got into position up high and waited until a bad guy split apart from the group and walked below me. I then sprung into action, falling upon him and then silently putting him out of commission before he recovered. His friends were alerted and moved to the position, but by the time they arrived to investigate, I’d moved on.

The mode was a lot of fun, and I felt appropriately sneaky. As I worked my way through the Joker’s minions, I earned Riddler medals for meeting certain criteria. For instance, one of the assignments was to take out an enemy silently from above. No problem. The medals can be cashed in to buy special combat modifiers (regenerating health, aggressive enemies, disabled gadgets), which can be used to spice up the combat challenges further.

Carlos D'Anda has released yet another black and white sneak preview of the final issue of the Arkham City comic series via his deviantArt page.

Not only does it show Robin will play a big part in this issue, but it also appears the Batboat will be making another appearance!

So what do you think will happen in Issue 5? Does this mean Robin will play a big part in the game afterall?

Just to clarify, it IS Robin, not Nightwing. D'Anda confirms this via his deviantArt -

Batman Arkham City #5

The miniseries that leads you into the video game comes to its dramatic conclusion. The die is cast and the criminal gulag known as Arkham City is now in place. But even with its imposing walls and security measures, is anyone in Gotham City really going to feel safe with a legion of criminals living next door? Batman's determined to enter the belly of the beast and find out just who is pulling the strings.

Rocksteady Comment On Arkham City's Boss Battles
Angry Joe's recent interview with Rocksteady's Dax Ginn has shed some light on the boss battles in Batman: Arkham City. Ginn notes that you'll be able to go "toe to toe" with the super villains, while also having different experiences in combat with each one.

Can you face Penguin and Riddler in physical boss battles?

One thing we really want to do with Arkham City is make sure that you get a really intimate connection with the super villains you?re going up against. So you get to slam Harley Quinn into the ground, you get to destroy Riddler, you genuinely go face to face and toe to toe with all of these guys [villains].

Is their plenty of variety in the boss battles? Is each boss different?

Totally. We really design our boss encounters from the perspective of the villain. We just released a trailer a couple weeks ago with Mr. Freeze and some of the hints in that trailer really show how we?re going to approach that [boss battles]. He?s not only just this huge robot, he?s also a super smart scientist. So if you manage to get close to him and put a hit on him, he?ll retrospectively analyze the strategy you took and he?ll change the environment so you can?t do the same thing again.

So that?s a really good example of the way we treat all of these super villains differently.

Speculation of BAC's fourth playable character (http://arkhamcity.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=4852)

Nick Cowen (The Guardian, UK) talks to Dax Ginn, marketing game manager at Rocksteady Games, about the Dark Knight's return.

When we were playing through Batman: Arkham Asylum for the second time, picking up all the achievements, we found the blueprints for Arkham City ?
You found that? That was you guys?

Er, no, if we're being honest; someone else found it first, posted it on Gamefaqs.com and then we found it using their walkthrough.
(Laughs) Aha! So you can't take credit for that! Well, that's honest of you.

Thanks. So the existence of those blueprints means you were planning a sequel before Arkham City was even out the gate, right?
It does.

So how did you stay focused on the game you were making at the time? And how much of what you planned in those blueprints ? and what you were planning for Arkham City at the time ? has ended up in the new game?
Let me answer the second question first. Those blueprints ? when we look at them now and we look back at Arkham City, they're really accurate. We managed to stay focused on that broad footprint of the layout of Arkham City almost to a fault.

It was always going to be driven by technical considerations because when you're making an open-world game you don't know how big it can be until you start building it. But we knew we really wanted to inject it with the same level of detail and attention and love that we put into Arkham Asylum. We also wanted to layer it with Batman DNA; we wanted to make sure that it contained legendary locations that made the place meaningful for Batman and that it wasn't just a collection of generic streets.

So when we hatched the idea of taking the game out of Arkham Asylum and on to the streets of Gotham, and then the concept of Arkham City, that was the point where we created the secret room with the blueprints for Arkham City ? almost in the hope that we would be allowed to make it. But by that stage, to answer your first question, we were so close to finishing Arkham Asylum, there was no chance Arkham City could be a distraction that would threaten the polish of the game we were working on.

When you started thinking about Arkham City, was it a case that you wanted to take what you were doing in widescreen? Or did the idea for the city environment come from features you couldn't put into the first game ? like Batman's new gliding ability, or his new combos? Which of those aspects came first?
It actually came for the desire we had to give the player an immense sense of navigational freedom. We want to be true to the character of Batman, to all the things that make him a person and make him a hero. For example, the Dark Knight, the defender of Gotham ? that's just one aspect of his personality. Being the world's greatest detective is another aspect, and it's just as important. That's why there's a lot of crime scene investigation and puzzle solving in the game.

Then you have the Caped Crusader moniker for Batman and so, being able to deploy his cape and glide through buildings is something we have in the game ? I think the recent Batman films did that aspect particularly well. We knew that was something we wanted in the game; it felt very Batman, it felt great for the gameplay and overall it was the next logical place for us to go with this Arkham-verse that we're building here.

Speaking of the Arkham-verse, you've got a lot more characters in this game than there was in Arkham Asylum. We've already seen the Riddler, the Joker, Harley Quinn, Catwoman and Two-Face. Are there anymore characters that will make an appearance in Arkham City?

Can you tell us which ones?
(laughs) No. We've got more character announcements to make but I can't tell you what they are yet. I can tell you, though, that the Riddler will appear physically in the game. In Arkham Asylum he was just a voice on the radio, but here, you'll come face to face with him.

Catwoman's in the game both as an adversary and as a playable character. Calendar Man, Zsasz and Hugo Strange ? as the warden of Arkham City ? are in the game too. So there's a lot of fan service with very well-known characters as well as some obscure ones in the game. This is a big game as well, you're looking at around 40 hours plus to get 100% in there, and then you've got challenge maps on top of that.

We've got a lot of time and space to fill out the development of all of the different super villains. Arkham Asylum was a lot more focused and claustrophobic experience ? the focus in that game was mainly on the tension between Batman and the Joker.

Speaking of fan service, Robin is a character that divides fans. Yet we have seen concept art for the young lad in Arkham City. Was there an internal argument at Rocksteady before the decision was reached to put him in the game?
(laughs) You're right, he does divide people. The inclusion of Robin is always going to be met with resistance, whether within Rocksteady or outside with the fans or the community. It's actually incredible how divisive a character he is, but I think done well and done right, he's got the potential to be an awesome character.

We haven't shown anything of Robin in action yet, but I can tell you he has his own navigational system, he has his own moves, his own combat combos and he's got an explosives augmentation. I think gamers are going to find that he feels very different to playing as Batman ? the same way that Catwoman feels different to playing as Batman. We definitely wanted to make players feel the three different playable characters offer three different experiences.

Are you a fan of Robin?
Absolutely! Always have been! I've always thought he's a brilliant character. I know why some fans don't like him, but I've always been on Team Robin!

Bah! Next question. You might be sick of hearing this one, but let's talk about the Batmobile. After all you've given Batman an open city, so why can't we drive his car?
It ain't a driving game, is the short answer. You've seen the work we've put into the gliding system and that works just fine for moving the character around the city. Also, lots of the streets in Arkham City are filled with rubble an craters so the Batmobile wouldn't be the best mode of transport. It wouldn't make for very fun driving even if we put the Batmobile in the game.

In all seriousness, though, the moment you put Batman in a car, it becomes an entirely different kind of game. So there are no vehicles in the game whatsoever.

Would you say, that in a way, Batman is the ultimate vehicle in the game?
Well, he certainly controls with the same level of responsiveness. We wanted to build in a lot of navigational options for players ? you can see that even in the way the player can use the Batarang, where you can completely control their path once you throw them.

Speaking of the Batarang, lots of games featuring superheroes make you unlock their powers ? even in the sequels. Will we have to spend a lot of time unlocking all of Batman's gadgets from the first game?
No, you have them right from the start of Arkham City. We wanted players to really feel like Batman has been preparing for the inevitable day when Gotham would experience a crisis like it does in Arkham City, so all of his gadgets are ready.

Mark Hamill says this is the last time he's playing the Joker. It seems that every time a Batman series hits a peak, something untoward happens with that character.
How do you mean?

Well, Tim Burton made a good Batman film and then killed off the Joker at the end of it. Christopher Nolan made a great Batman film and then Heath Ledger tragically passed away. Now, after Rocksteady made an outstanding Batman game ? you're losing your Joker as well.
I hadn't thought of it that way. Well, Mark said that he thought that Arkham Asylum would be very difficult to top and I absolutely agree ? when I play Arkham Asylum, the performance he turns in is amazing.

But his performance on Arkham City has been just phenomenal. When it comes to the Joker, Mark's a genius. He gets this character so perfectly. All we need to do is just write the dialogue and then he brings it vividly to life. When we add his performance to the game, the quality our game just doubles.

To be honest, I don't know what's going to happen in the future. So long as we remain focused on making an amazing game, opportunities will come for the studio, I'm sure and creative solutions will present themselves.

It seems Batman: Arkham City has gone gold. An interviewer from Eurogamer luckily stepped into Rocksteady's studios when they were "half an hour" away from completion.

But none the less, Rocksteady are already in talks regarding future projects. "There's conversations going on about potential possibilities about what's down the track for Rocksteady" Ginn explains.

But we won't be finding out anytime soon, Dax concluded in saying there was nothing else he could comment on to gain more clarity on what's next after Arkham City.

But Paul Crocker goes on to explain possibile secrets that lie within the city limits. "There are elements in the game that you will be able to look for, whether they are to do with another game or just something else (ideas we have). It's definitely worth exploring every nook and cranny of Arkham City."

The awesome video interview also sheds some light on Rocksteady's motion capture techniques, Story decisions and more!

I hope there's many future titles for Rocksteady since this masterpiece is completed.

I was throwing around ideas of who could tomorrows New Villain be. These are the possibilities that I came across:

Poison Ivy - She featured in the BAC comic

Killer Croc - Saw a pic and heard some rumors

Black Mask - He was in the debut gameplay trailer

Ra's al Ghul - His daughter Talia is in the game, so there might be a little father and daughter reunion

In my opinion I think It's going to be Black Mask .

Any other ideas?

Could this be our first look at Arkham City's box art? Could Arkham City feature an Online Pass?

As well as giving us our first glimpse at Arkham City's sleeve, the blurb makes mention of the Batman online pass, which will allow players to access certain features of Arkham City.

This would not be the first time WB have released a game with an online pass, Mortal Kombat, released earlier this year, required such a pass to access online features, according to the small print gamers buying Arkham City pre-owned or second-hand will have to pay a little extra to get a Batman online pass, gamers buying a mint copy of the game will have a one use serial code included within the packaging.

It is implied that without the online pass, gamers will be unable to play as Catwoman [WTF] in the challenge rooms, and possible more.

Please note that this sleeve is not confirmed.

Arkham City’s GTTV show finally aired last night and boy did it not disappoint. GameTrailers stuck to their word and revealed an all new villain, gadgets and some awesome new gameplay.

Amongst the new gadgets are:

Freeze Blast - This gadget allows you to freeze your enemies, judging from the gameplay shown it can be fired from a great distance. Allowing you to tactically target your foe and fly down to take him out with ease. The gadget can also be used when trying to cross water, GameTrailers show Batman standing on an ice platform and using the Batclaw to latch onto objects in the water, allowing him to move him self around.

Check out Bats using this gadget in the video below! But be warned, this video contains cut scenes from early in the game. If you don't want to be spoiled we suggest you avoid this video.

Deadshot will be part of a side mission where Batman tries to figure out who is on Deadshot's hit list and how to stop him. He will be missing some of his gear because he needed to sneak into Arkham City as a thug.

The first of Series 1 of Arkham City action figures have been officially announced.

Welcome to Arkham City, the new maximum security “home” for all of Gotham City’s thugs, gangsters, and insane criminal masterminds.

Set inside the heavily fortified walls of a sprawling district in the heart of Gotham City, it’s filled with the most murderous villains from DC Comics’ Batman universe. But Batman is ready to tackle it with all-new gadgets and his greatest—and most dangerous—allies. Which is good, because he’ll need all the help he can get for his journey into the darkest corners of Gotham.

Among those he’ll encounter:

Tim Drake battles crime as Robin, delivering punches (and signature quips) to aid in the Caped Crusader’s mission to shut down Arkham City.

In a nice new outfit, Harley Quinn has taken to the front lines to personally fulfill the Joker’s sickest wishes of mischief and mayhem. She’s not going to let anyone get in her way—least of all Batman.

Based on the upcoming blockbuster video game published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, developed by Rocksteady Studios, and licensed by DC Entertainment.

A message from BAC's Game Director

Hi all,

The big news from Rocksteady is that Batman: Arkham City has now gone gold.

Thanks to everyone in the community for your continued support - it made the late nights and weekend work easier knowing you were behind us all the way.

I'm really proud of the work the team has done - I'm sure you're going to enjoy it too.

Now the team are focused on finishing off some really cool DLC but the main news is... Batman is back!

BAC Eurogamer Q & A

How many bios are there?

Can you aim the smoke bombs?

In the demo they were only a reactionary tool, however other previews have suggested you can aim the smoke bombs.

Is there anyone else besides Calender man in the cells below the court house?

There is not, there are some extra cells, but Calendar-Man is the only occupant.

Was there anything in that Cupboard in the first Catwoman room before she gets taken?

It's actuallynot a cupboard, it's a large double door, which you can't open unfortunately.

Were there boundaries to the Demo? If so, what were they?

There were, the demo area was bordered off by transparent red walls with the Arkham City logo.

Did the graphics seem better or the same?

The graphics were notably better, be sure to check our hands-on impressions for more details!

Was the combat noticeably different?

Batman's combat was notably a bit slower, certain dynamics like evading and general transitions have given the combat much more polish, combat is also much more tactical and deep this time round.

How many more villains can we expect in the game that won't be revealed before release?

I wasn't given an exact number, but rest assured they're there!

Could you give us a detailed description of the new controls?- How to do an aerial assault/beatdown/explosive gel etc.

I recommend you look to our hands on preview!

Did you ever use the slide into combat? And if so, does the animation change as you collide with an enemy?

You can slide into combat, Batman performs what is effectively a football tackle on his enemy, knocking him to the floor.

Did you ever grapple to a ledge while moving? Does that boost your launch speed at all?

The grapple speed has been increased, and it's range is dramatically different, though I'm not entirely sure, I'd say the grapple speed whilst gliding is a bit faster than standing still. Holding down the A or X button has Batman perform a diving roll after reaching his grapple point, which greatly increases speed!

Did you ever dive bomb straight down to a fight? How many thugs can you "fear shockwave" back?

I did! I didn't count, but it was everyone that was nearby, there was an awesome moment of just standing there for a second whilst thugs cower around you.

What are the controls like with the new glide system?

The controls are notably different from Arkham Asylum and certainly take some getting used to, for an in-depth analysis, check out our hands-on!

How much better is the freeflow system, does it feel more "loose",this meaning, does it feel much better due to the more combat variety(Aerial Attack,Beatdown...)?

The freeflow system is massively different, in regard to your terminology, it is certainly much looser!

A part from the gadgets from AA,which other ones can you use in combat apart from the explosive gel?

In the demo you could also use your batarang, remote control batarang, batclaw, grapple-gun and even the line launcher to take down your foes.

Is there anything else to interrogations other than just saving the relevant thug for last and pressing Y/Triangle?

Were you able to reach the zeppelin? (I'm guessing no) Also, how long can you hitch a ride in the helicopter? Can you interact with it in any other way?

I couldn't reach the zeppelin, but you can stay hanging from the helicopter for as long as you like!

Is it still X+B or Square+Circle to do a beatdown? I've heard conflicting reports.

You must stun the thug (Twice IIRC) and then hit the attack button about five times, the speed of your presses determines the speed of the beatdown.

About the moves, well, did you use/see the USE, the taunt action?

No on both accounts.

Are the scan riddles that unlock bios coming back if yes are there any new bios you spotted etc.

To my knowledge no, I tried scanning several items that I felt may lead to Riddles, but nothing happened, bios are unlocked, at least in the demo, by actually meeting the character! For more info on Riddles check out our preview.

Are you able to change the the flying controls from inverted?

Which console did you play it on Elliottt?

I played the Xbox360 version.

Is Riddler part of the main story or just one of the side missions?

Riddler is a side mission.

How about some more info about the sewer system ? Can you go into them and explore?

I went manhole hunting only to find that were not interact-able, nor did they appear highlighted in detective vision, though this was only the demo!

Do you still have annoying ground takedowns?

Well that was it folks, be sure to check back throughout the day for our playthrough impressions, including never tried before playthroughs, new details and our verdict on the game so far! We've also got exclusive interviews with Rocksteady themselves!

Man-Bat spotted in Joker trailer

Talia Al Ghul was maybe not the only villain seen briefly in the new Joker Trailer. Arkhamcity.co.uk member "OzzyCobblepot" pointed this out, and perhaps he was not the only one. At one point in the trailer you can actually see something flying away, and its wings are moving. It's very briefly but this could be a first glimpse at Man-bat, who hasn't been confirmed by Rocksteady to be in the game. Take a look for yourselves in this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOOj5rzvKOw) (1080p) at 01.14 as Batman is gliding away from the exploding tower at the left.

That's the thing about Batman, there's just so much of debt in his story which always makes the plot wonderfully filled with mystery, suspense and awesome. I don't think any other superhero can even try to compete with Batman when it comes to story and character.

25-09-2011, 09:48 PM
The latest Batman: Arkham City trailer has given our first in game shot of Talia al Ghul. But it seems she's not entering alone, it's apparent from this frame that Ras' daughter may be on good terms with The Joker.

Mediakick conducted an interview with Community Manager at Rocksteady, Sarah Wellock, at the EuroGamer Expo.

So, what does your job entail? And, how does that affect the development of Arkham City? Do you use feedback from fans on what they liked and disliked about Arkham Asylum and how much of that feedback was taken into consideration for the development of the game?

One of the great things about Rocksteady is that they’re really, really listening to their fans. As soon as I started [in August 2010] they wanted the forum, they wanted somewhere they could speak to their fans, and gather feedback from Arkham Asylum. Even with the assets we’ve released for Arkham City, we can find see that ‘this’ thing had a really good reaction, ‘this’ one not so much, and then we work on that as we go through the campaign. Rocksteady, as a studio, makes games for fans, it makes games for the people they know care, so it’s absolutely important that they have a voice.

When Arkham Asylum released it was met with great critical success, having won plenty of awards including Game of the Year awards; was that level of success something you were expecting?

I know as a studio we absolutely believed that the product we put out was excellent and we were very, very proud. Once you put that many years of your live into something, you want the response to be positive. But the key thing is we went out there and we said if this goes out there and people are like “uughhh”, we know we made the best game possible and we’d work on it for our next title. So whatever happened the reaction was going to be positive in a way to us; either we improved upon it, fixed things and made it better for our next game or you guys love it, which would be awesome. We were really lucky and absolutely thrilled at the reaction by everyone across the world.

Did you always plan to make another batman game after Arkham Asylum then, or was it dependant on the success of it?

As soon as you start work on a game until you’ve sunk years of your life into it you’re hoping that you’d be lucky enough to do a sequel, but you need that success off of your first game, and you need a believe in the product. So, I think as a studio we wanted to do as much as we could to support the Arkham universe, and we are lucky and privileged to be able to release Arkham City now.

For most sequels, fans want something bigger, they want something better, so what are the main key things that have been improved upon over Arkham Asylum?

The main difference is that you have Batman in a very different environment, you have him in a world that is five times the size of Arkham Asylum. The Asylum was on an island, now we have Gotham City; even that simple location move opens up a whole world on new possibilities. It opens up the possibility for Batman to glide and fly around the rooftops, we have Catwoman who’s playable in ten percent of the game. It wasn’t just a case of “let’s build the biggest world we can”, it was “let’s make something new, something detailed’ – every street is different, every building is unique. It’s something that really comes through in the game, and I think people are reacting very positively already to it.

There were a lot of villains and ‘personalities’ in Arkham Asylum, and it seems there’s as many if not more this time in Arkham City with the like of Robin, Penguin and Bane. How do you go about choosing which ones go into the game, or is it more based on who you can get rights for?

We have a really great relationship with DC [Universe]. Paul Crocker (Lead Narrative Designer at Rocksteady Studios), who wrote Arkham Asylum, is constantly talking to DC about ideas, so we’re always very creative and bouncing ideas off and seeing what works. The key idea for us is to put characters in that players are going to react positively to, that they’re going to understand, whose relationship with Batman is going to be something worth exploring. The best example of that is Mr. Freeze, he’s not a typical villain in the sense that you’d imagine him to be with Batman empathising with him. That adds a shade of grey to the whole villain-Batman relationship, but that’s what we’re looking for. So people can come away having felt like Batman, but understand why he’s doing what he’s doing.

One of the very popular and successful parts of Arkham Asylum was the fluid combat, how has that been improved upon? Is it ‘more fluid’, are there more variations, is it more enjoyable and easy to play?

Absolutely, I think the free-flow combat in Arkham City is the same core fluid movement with it’s fluidity around your enemies, but we have twice the amount of animations for Batman now, we have twice the number of counter moves, you can do double and even triple counters, you can pick up the chairs they throw and you and throw them back at them. It’s evolved in the way that Batman has evolved and that his gadgets have evolved. We wanted this to be a new game, not Arkham Asylum 2.0 so it feels like a brand new chapter in the Arkham universe rather than a follow-up.

A lot of sequels over the past few years have incorporated a multiplayer component, was that ever something you looked at doing for Arkham City?

I think as a studio when you look at the development of a sequel, like Arkham City, you go into it with a fresh mind, ‘here’s a whole bunch of things we can do, which of them fit’. Multiplayer was one that, whilst it would get us a great tick on the box, we didn’t feel would fit in the Arkham universe. We already have Catwoman playable, we have Robin with the challenge maps, so we felt that we have enough variety for players already.

With the new playable characters, did you ever toy with the idea of doing a co-op mode?

Batman has a great set of allies in the Batman universe, but they never really co-op, even Robin goes off to become the Red Robin. He’s very much a lone ranger, even Catwoman, she’s not really an ally, you’ve got to be careful with her. If he had a cut and dry partner, it would be something we would explore, but Batman is very complicated and to simplify him down to a tag-team level we didn’t feel as though it would do him justice.

There’s the release of the new Batman film next year, was there any possibility of syncing up releases, or did you want to stay separate so people wouldn’t get confused and think it was a tie-in?

We’re big fans of what Nolan’s done and he’s brought Batman to a mainstream audience that games, realistically, can’t do on the same level. Whilst we’re massive fans and we follow what he’s doing, we follow a different timeline, we follow a different approach to Batman. We like to think of it as Arkham-verse and Nolan-verse. We certainly follow what he does, I mean he has Bane and Catwoman in the next film with some great casting choices, so we’ll all be there on the first day to go and see it.

There’s a noticeable difference in tone between the two as well, with the movies being a tad grittier in style, especially with how Joker was portrayed. Was the more graphic-novel approach something that was always intended for the Arkham universe?

The thing with Batman Arkham City was that we’ve got a great studio of Batman fans, like with Arkham Asylum. Sefton Hill (Game Director and Co-Owner of Rocksteady Studios), you can quiz him on anything Batman and he’s on it, Paul Crocker as well, they know their stuff. When you approach game development, especially when you’ve got Batman, you’ve got to consider a whole world of different options. You’ve got to work with DC, with Warner , and we’re lucky to have these relationships so that we can explore the darker side of Batman. With Arkham City though we didn’t want to repeat what we’d done last time; Scarecrow was great, but we wanted to look at something different. From the off, you’ve got Hugo Strange who knows Batman’s true identity whose going to use that against him.

[B]Who we saw in that original CG teaser trailer.

Exactly, even in the gameplay behind us you go down crime allay and he’s recreated the crime scene from your parents death and left you a message saying how he’s going to break you. That kind of psychological setup is very different and a little bit more personal than we’ve explored previously.

What is your personal favourite new feature of Arkham City? Either a gameplay mode or a particular chapter?

I think it would be one of the features you can try out in demo here [at the Eurogamer Expo]. You start off a top of a building and you can just glide towards the courthouse. In that instance you realise that this is new, it’s exciting. I’ve been reading Batman comics for twenty years, so that’s a very Batman thing for me to feel like I’m doing; gliding from a rooftop with my cape billowing in the wind through Arkham City. That, as a Batman fan, is something I’ve always wanted to do.

With the success of Arkham Asylum you got to create and build Arkham City, is there scope to create further Batman games?

To be honest, we’re having a holiday. We’ve got some great stuff lined up, with DLC being looked at now, and our key focus is to make sure that people can get Arkham City when they want it, have a great experience and then to support them through the forums. Arkham City is a game that has enormous replay value, with New Game+ you can go back and replay the game with all the gadgets but with a greater challenge, so I don’t think it’ll be a case of come January we go “okay, so what’s next”, it’ll more likely that we’ll take a step back and really look back at Arkham City, how it’s done and the feedback we have.

After spending years on Batman I suspect it’ll be nice to have a bit of time to reflect.

Exactly, it’s been years in the making and it’s a lot of people’s lives and time, so we need to make sure we give the game the respect of sitting down afterwards and seeing how it did, what went wrong, what went right.

Official Playstation Magazine Australia BAC Review

Official Playstation Magazine Australia have given their verdict on Batman: Arkham City. The game has been given a 10/10 and has been refered as being "one of the best games ever made". Extracts from the review can be found below.

"Batman: Arkham City is not only the best superhero game ever made, it's one of the best games ever made full-stop. It takes the already superlative original and gloriously expands on it. It's a deeper game, more complex, more inventive, more mature. It brings the caped crusader's world to life better than any comic, movie or television show before it."

"Presentation: Endlessly creative, perfectly moody, and technically flawless. This is Epic's Unreal engine pushed to its absolute limit."

"Sound: Alternatively foreboding and frantic, the game's orchestral soundtrack matches the on-sccreen action perfectly. Voice acting is brilliant."

"Controls: Complex and initially overwhelming but also logical and responsive. It'll take a while to get used to them, but once you do it feels perfectly natural flinging Batman around."

"Replay Value: Immense. A massive main quest, dozens of side missions, Riddler challenges, secondary game modes, and DLC will keep most people occupied for months."

"VERDICT: We can't imagine how a superhero game could be better than this. Absolutely sublime."

A new villain has been revealed in a new episode of Playstation Network's Qore. Three minutes and thirty-nine seconds into the episode you can catch a glimpse of The Mad Hatter surrounded by a bunch of thugs wearing bunny masks.

It's likely that taking on The Mad Hatter will be one of the many side missions taking place in the game.

Here is the video of Qore. The Mad Hatter comes out at 3:39.

Nightwing DLC

We've heard the rumor and saw the achievements listing Nightwing in Batman: Arkham City. There was even some screen grabs from an apparent alpha version. Today, Warner Bros. Interactive and DC Entertainment make it official.

The Nightwing Bundle Pack for Batman: Arkham City will be available November 1. Nightwing comes complete with his own unique gadgets and special moves, and is playable in all challenge maps in the game, as well as two additional challenge maps that are included with the pack: Wayne Manor and Main Hall. The pack also contains a bonus Animated Series Nightwing character skin.

That means you don't have to worry about pre-ordering or it being exclusive to any counsels or stores. You'll just have to pay for it, which isn't too bad. Get it if you want it.

Robin will also be available if you chose not to pre-order through Best Buy. Robin will be available on November 22 to all owners of the game.

Both download content bundles will be offered on Xbox LIVE? Marketplace for 560 Microsoft Points and PlayStation?Network for $6.99

Criminal records

Rocksteady tweeted that "Dr Strange will be releasing some more prisoner records today, which prisoner interests you most?" giving fans a chance to vote, in the end it was the Riddler's criminal record that was revealed -

Another tweet stated that "The Doctor will release one a day for 3 days". This means we'll get a deeper look into some of the inmates and Hugo Strange himself.

I have an internet connection for my PC, and that's primarily just for my schoolwork, and catching up with gaming news, and so forth. It's a USB stick modem that I can't use on my consoles. So it's a bummer, really.

My initial thought was that all the characters I've seen so far is characters that you get when buying the game, meaning they're already there on the disc, not floating around in cyber space. But alas, that is not the case. If I can manage to get a wireless modem that works with my consoles, meaning a wireless connection like iBurst for example, can someone recommend something for me?

How yours speed, have you tried downloading anything yet?

I'm not sure yet as what counts as good or bad, but my speed differs from 500kbps to 1mbps.

I'm busy downloading the patch for Rage on Play station 3.
Will see how things go on Xbox later.

Batman: Arkham City First 15 Minutes Gameplay

14-10-2011, 06:50 AM
So this just cropped up: Catwoman's missions are the once-off activation code that will ship with all new copies of the game. Second-hand cheapskates will have to buy another code. I've written a post about it on NAG Online.

Yep, in a move to fling a batarang at the nuts of second-hand sales, publisher Warner Bros. Interactive has confirmed to Eurogamer that the single-player content, in which you get to control Catwoman, will only be available by entering a once-off activation code that comes with all new copies of the game. If you buy second-hand then you’ll have to pay extra in order to get another access code.

Here (http://www.nag.co.za/2011/10/14/want-to-play-as-catwoman-in-arkham-city-buy-new/).

14-10-2011, 07:41 AM
I've seen Jim sterling's tirade against stuff like this and I understand people will be mad, but just like the levels in Rage, it's not integral to the story. Just an added bonus for supporting the game from day one.

What is stupid though is that people that are not connected to the internet, won't be able to play this. Even if they did buy it day one.

I knew the embargo was up at 3pm today, so I did a google at 2:55pm, and one at 3:01pm. I know the tech behind it, but I was still quite shocked at how quickly they've all been posted.

And yes, it's all 9s and 10s thus far.

14-10-2011, 03:19 PM
Destructoid gives it a 8.5 (http://www.destructoid.com/review-batman-arkham-city-213288.phtml)

Batman: Arkham City tries to do too much and can come off a little heavy-handed, but that doesn't stop it from doing a vast amount of things right. It's a beautifully bleak game that constantly pays tribute to one of the greatest icons in comic book history and provides an experience that one can get lost in for hours. Its biggest problems lie in a combat system that manages to be too simple and too complex in the wrong areas, and this can often exasperate, but the overall product is one of the most absorbing and engrossing ones on the market.

It doesn't quite reach the highs of its predecessor, but Arkham City rarely sinks low. When it's all said and done, you'll be begging for more, but not because there wasn't enough. It is just too damn fun to be The Bat.

And CVG a 9.5 (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/322429/batman-arkham-city/?page=1)

But that's the point: Rocksteady elevated the status of the superhero game with Asylum to a place that commands respect from notoriously hard to please comic book fans. With Arkham City, the studio clearly overcame any added pressure quickly and waded into the sequel with confidence.

It's a belief in the character and, most importantly, a belief in itself that has seen the studio deliver one of the greatest Batman interpretations of all time. And you know what? Maybe even one of the best games ever.

Next Friday can't come soon enough.

Seriously, please stop posting screenshots now that the game is out. We've had an overload of them now.

15-10-2011, 11:34 AM
Dude, Cleric is right. You don't have to post every bloody screenshot on the internet in here. And if you post news, don't just post a link, at least discuss what you posted and why you think it's important to read it.

15-10-2011, 11:37 AM
It's something I've been thinking a while now, and me and Cynikill have also discussed it. At one point, we wondered if absolado was just a bot or something, as he merely posts videos and screenshots of games, and never actually discusses them. You come into a thread to discuss a game, but then you have to wait for all his screenshots to load before you can actually start discussing anything.

15-10-2011, 12:10 PM
I've been staying out of this thread because of the screenshot and artwork overload. As a suggestion absolado, post links to images. That way we can check them if we really want to. And like Zoop said, please add some opinions besides "sexyness" when you post something. Forums are for discussion, not purely news links.

15-10-2011, 12:27 PM
Shampies man, lay off him a bit. I think he gets the message of " DON'T PAST STEP BY STEP SCREENSHOTS\ADD USEFUL INFORMATION FOR A INTELLECTUAL DISCUSSION AND\OR FUNNY COMMENT". But I do agree that there way to many pics pasted here.

15-10-2011, 01:12 PM
Okay, first of all, I plead guilty

I admit that I have been going really overboard posting images/links. Especially on this thread. Reason? I just got too carried away with every piece of news or artwork I saw on the net [ Can you blame me?! It's BAC for crying out loud ]. Then I decided to post it here because I thought users will like and appreciate it [ I was WRONG! ]. Anyways, I apologize for annoying a bunch of you guys.

Strategy Informers Full Review 10/10 (http://www.strategyinformer.com/xbox360/batmanarkhamasylum2/1682/review.html)

"Well, one thing’s for sure about Batman: Arkham City - it’s a game I will never, ever stop playing. It’s full of surprises, gigantically better than the already superb Arkham Asylum, packed with content, and almost certainly my game of the year. When I think about things wrong with it all I can muster up are minor quibbles. It’s everything a Batman fan could possibly want, or gaming fans in general for that matter. It’s also impossible to talk about. "

For all those people that hated IGN's rating

15-10-2011, 02:38 PM
It's not that we're unappreciative or trying to be dicks, but you do understand the annoyance of having to sift through 45 posts of screenshots and news articles to find posts that are actually discussing the game, right? It overpowers the discussion in the thread.

Thanx Wolf. I post images for people like you, it's good to know someone likes them.

Let's get this thread back on track.

From all the positive reviews I've read, I can surely say that this is now, even more a day one purchase for me.

I'm kind of dissaponted by the fact that the Catwoman content has to be downloaded, but I'm sure this game will kick ass, nonetheless.

15-10-2011, 10:52 PM
Catwoman's skins, taken from The Long Halloween and the animated series.

It's not only Batman and Robin that have their own Arkham City wardrobe. We've received some fresh images of Catwoman's selectable attire in the game. It's unknown to whether there are more, but we'll be definitely keeping an eye out.

Got to say I'm not too impressed with these skins, they should have done something a bit more unique.

BTW I'm not double posting, the news just hit the web now.

We've finally got a glimpse of one of Batman's skins in action. The Toys R' Us and ShopTo pre-order exclusive 1970's Batsuit is shown off in the gameplay video below, but don't worry it's footage from the game's challenge mode; spoiler free!

Don't really like the suit, thankfully Kalahari are giving the Batman Beyond skin, which is freaken awesome.

Even before the game has officially been released, Rocksteady have already released a 16MB patch for Arkham City, as revealed by Gamepur.

The patch will be available as soon as you start the game.

No details have been given regarding the contents of the patch.

Kind of **** news for me becuase I really want to Activate the Catwoman single player missions but my internet will take ages to download the patch [384 line] .

For the first time ever we see Sefton and Dax together in a video interview!

The interviewer sounded crazy hyped. He asked about Robin as DLC and the new info on Catwoman. He also threw in a question regarding a Batman Beyond game, and at the end asked about Clayface.
Sefton mentioned that the new freeflow perfection will now take about twice as many moves. Sounds like an awesome challenge.

16-10-2011, 08:00 PM
Triple post? Really?

16-10-2011, 08:01 PM
Absolado, if you wanted to make this a media thread, you should have labelled it as such. If people wanted to read every single bit of news and information on the internet, they'd look it up them damn selves. It's okay to post something if it's really big news, but you post every single small and insignificant piece of news you can find. Once again, not trying to be a ****, but...Jesus man.

Can we create a separate thread for the discussion of the game?

16-10-2011, 08:51 PM
Give me a break dammit, it's as if every post I make, you guys have something negative to say about it. This was a vid with Marketing Director Dax Gin and Game Director Sefton Hill at NYCC hyping the game. What's not cool about that?

Fine, this is thread is now a media and discussion thread.

16-10-2011, 09:01 PM
You miss the point somewhat. Every thread is a discussion. Pictures are used to engage and support rather than be plastered in random sequence with no bearing other than being game appropriate. I'm sure nobody doesn't appreciate the effort, but it's misplaced.

16-10-2011, 09:14 PM
I don't think I missed the point 'somewhat', if every thread is a discussion, why does Zoop want to create another thread for the discussion of the game [ does he/she not understand that threads are discussions ].

... but it's misplaced.

So how was I supposed to place it?

16-10-2011, 09:24 PM
You fail to understand that not everybody has an uncapped internet connection and people pay per meg used. Pictures are bandwidth heavy, especially those hosted internationally. Also to find any discussion, one has to navigate your collection of humdrum images haphazardly. Once again, your effort is a good thing, but some discussion would be nice as well thanks.

As to not go completely OT:

I will be picking up my copy at BT as soon as the Pavilion has stock. From what my brother in England tells me, this is going to seriously compete with Dark Souls for playtime :D

16-10-2011, 09:26 PM
Because it's impossible to have a discussion when every tiny insignificant detail about the game is being posted, double posted, triple posted by you. If you look at other threads, only the big news is posted. If you really have to post all of this, do it in one post. Just because something new popped up doesn't mean you can ignore the forum rules about double posting.

16-10-2011, 09:32 PM

I get the whole image thing, however, if people do not have uncapped, surely on their browser there must be an option to disable images.

You're welcome

@Cynikill. All you have to do is ignore the 'tiny insignificant [ there is no such thing in this game ] details' and you can have your discussion perfectly. No?

A good look at challenge mode. Really looking forward to this mode because you can play as any character you want.

17-10-2011, 12:30 AM
I'm not so hyped about the fighting, I'm just hoping there's more interesting ways to use the X-Ray mode this time around. It wasn't used to it's full capability in the previous game. I'd also like to see all the other gadgets, but in the trailers they just show fighting, fighting, and more fighting....

17-10-2011, 12:11 PM
By the time we have finished watching all the videos and looking at all the pictures absolado has posted, we won't even need to play the game. We will have seen the entire thing from beginning till end already. ;)

On-Topic : I don't know if this has been discussed before, since i have skipped the first 10 pages due to me not wanting to pay R9000 on 3g fee's. But I heard now that Batman isn't going to be open worlded in the traditional sense. Its going to be more of a giant hub like in Dues Ex. Do you guys think this is better for a Batman game? I think having a open world like GTA would make or an awesome (yet difficult to develop) game.

17-10-2011, 12:16 PM
Do you guys think this is better for a Batman game? I think having a open world like GTA would make or an awesome (yet difficult to develop) game.

With a true open-world game it loses some of its narrative. I'd rather have a smaller area with more detail then a huge city that overwhelms me. Only exception is maybe InFamous and RDR. Still don't think it will work with Batman game.

17-10-2011, 12:32 PM

17-10-2011, 12:55 PM
Based on some reviews, it seems that the world isn't as open as GTA. You never have to "complete these 3 in any order" to progress the story, as the narrative is strictly linear.

Arkham City local stock issues – Collector’s Editions delayed

Oh dear. Bad news for those of you who were planning on being the Batman this Friday – especially if you planned on getting the collector’s editions. While PC gamers had already resigned themselves to waiting until Next month to play the game, it seems local gamers who ordered the collector’s editions for Xbox 360 and PS3 might be disappointed – as it appears, According to this post by ZAPS on the PS3ZA forums, that they’ve been delayed by a week.

That’s not all; it seems there might be a stock shortage with the regular vanilla editions as well, particularly the slightly fancy ones with the lenticular cover. Before you show up at the distributor’s offices with your pitchforks and torches, know that i’s not really their fault; the blame lies entirely at Warner Bros’ feet – as they’ve cut stock allocations.

There’s no indication as yet if this applies to the larger retailers like Kalahari.com and BTGames, or if it’s just affecting smaller outlets, but if you have pre-ordered, you might want to check in with your retailer of choice to make sure you won’t be spending Friday curled up in the foetal position, crying real Batman tears. We’ve contacted the distributor for comment, and will keep you updated with any feedback we receive.

Sigh. There will be blood.

19-10-2011, 04:21 PM

Well, it doesn't bother me at all. In fact, I plan to get a copy of Batman AC standard edition :)

I hope it's infinitely better than the first game. Can't wait :D

(now going to google more Batman AC wallpapers)

19-10-2011, 04:43 PM
We contacted Nu Metro and got the official word on delays:

Bad news PS3 fans: we’ve just received official word from our contacts at Nu Metro and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment that the Collector’s Edition of Arkham City on PlayStation 3 will not be making the Friday 21 October release date. If you’ve pre-ordered the Collector’s Edition of Bats on PS3 then you can expect your game “early next week”.

For everyone else, it’s business as usual. The standard and “Catwoman Steel Book” editions for PlayStation 3 will still arrive this Friday. The Xbox 360 versions have not been affected by any delays. Here’s hoping we’ll still get our Catwoman DLC.

From the sounds of it, only pre-purchase.

Kalahari's email

We have been informed of a delay from our suppliers for the PS3 version of Batman Arkham City Collectors Edition. As a result of this delay, you will now receive the game on [B]28 November 2011.

Our sincerely apologies for the delay and inconvenience which this might have caused.

Please note, you have the option to cancel your order if you are unable to wait.

Kind Regards

This was the so-called polite email I received a few moments ago. Honestly, no amount of words can describe the anger that is flowing through my veins right now.

I knew the PS3 BAC CE was getting delayed to 'early next week'. But this . . . DISGUSTING!

From Mikit's link:

Kalahari's 'compensation' is ''lollable''[ since I[and hundreds of others] waited for the game from 2010 ]

Batman Arkham City CE has been short supplied to SA. All allocations have been cut. In addition to this, it has also been delayed, expected delivery is 28 Oct on Xbox & PS3 & PC 18 Nov. This affects all retailers in SA. Customers who pre-ordered in Aug will receive their order. You will need to cancel your pre-order & place a new order for the Batman Std. Ed. As compensation we are giving you a R100 voucher + a Batman Tshirt.

What's with all the '&'s, is it PS3 and Xbox on 28 Oct and PC on 18 Nov, or Xbox on 28 Oct and PS3 and PC on 18 Nov???

20-10-2011, 02:32 PM
No offense, but this is totally out of Kalahari's hands. If you think them giving you a R100 voucher for something that isn't even their fault is 'lollable', then you're just full of ****.

R100 is a reasonably big amount to simply give out. It's more than most other places would have done.

20-10-2011, 02:39 PM
Getting the game [CE] a full month after it is release[if you interpret the article that the ps3 and xbox will come on 28 Oct] . . . out of their hands. Anyone will be ****ed
