I'm looking to buy a new screen.

Currently I'm looking at the Samsung BX2450(LED) for R2395 or the Samsung P2450(LCD) for R2095.

Is LED worth the extra R300? Any other suggestions of other brands?

I've yet to see an LED PC screen personally, but to be rather honest, unless you put the two side by side, you won't notice a difference. If you have the extra R300 to spend, go for it, if you've got something else you could spend R300 on, rather do that.

I've got the P2350, and it really is a very nice screen. It's got a bit of a reddish tint to it, but is easily fixed by some basic colour adjustments. I'm super happy with mine, and I'd recommend it (and its larger brother obviously) to anyone.

I find the samsungs more aesthetically pleasing than the other brand's offerings. The samsung looks like a art piece, not a screen. So shiny and pretty.

Very true, and the P2350 and 2450 have really awesome touch-sensitive buttons. Basically, you don't see any buttons excepts tiny white dots, but when you touch one of them, the name of every button appears on the transparent bevel on the screen. Really James Bond-ish, thus really awesome. I haven't worked with many other monitors, mostly Samsungs, and I've never really heard of any complaints.

My Samsung 24" just arrived today, and while it is gorgeous, part of me finds it too big and wishes I'd rather got a 23" LED for the same cost.

How can it be an inch too big? If you're running it at native HD resolution, and have just 2xAA applied, I see no reason why you should think it's too big, unless you have a 30cm wide desk.

Yeah, I'm kind of worried about that too. My desk is 87cm in width... but yeah, I'll find another place to put things.
Another worry of mine is, theres no way my graphics card will be able to handle any game at 1080p. It's a Nvidia 8600GT :/

Will it be able to handle HD movies( .mkv files etc) and whatnot?

I'm currently reading your post sitting in front of my T260...

Yes. You'll struggle with games though.

I recently saw my mates new LED in action, he showed me the Assassins Creed 2 trailer with fireworks going off, and I must say I thought the colour vibrance was something special. I do over-analyse that sort of thing though, and I also suspect he may have had the colours over-saturated a bit.

Ok ok, maybe I was just a bit grumpy at the sheer size of my screen on my desk (yes, it is a small desk). Having to actively look around my screen takes some getting used to. But when I plugged my PS3 into it, watched my NIN blu-ray and played some Uncharted 2 on it, I realised that it is a magnificent thing indeed.

(that said, I would probably still trade it for a 23" LED)

We are an online store that caters for all these needs. i have found in my personal experience and from clients that although it sounds cool to have the bigger monitor, it does tend to be too big. also the LED still has room for improvement. I would Suggest you wait a while before going LED. I have a LG 23" HD Monitor at home and i love it. feel free to contact me if you want to discuss this further.

Well, If 24" is too big, theres no reason to upgrade. Already on a 19" Acer(Lovely piece of technology). I really want a large widescreen, because I do almost all my gaming on my 360 hooked to my monitor, and I mostly use my PC for watching series/movies.

@Technetics, could you specify what these problems with the LED are/could be?

PS. You're not a bot(I think), but you're advertising in threads. Not sure if it's allowed. I would make sure with Miktar.

24 isn't too big, not at all. I moved from a 20in to a 23in a few months back, and I'm absolutely loving it. Also, I'm barely an arms length away from it, so you don't need to sit ridiculously far away from it in any case.

And, post no. 1000 *clap*

You just said that you've move to 23", not 24". My entire point is that 24" is just that littlebit too big. As I said, I'd trade my 24" LCD for a 23" LED if I had the chance.

I don't think you'd have to look too hard to find someone who'd take that offer...

I know I know, just slightly cross with myself for impulse buying. Anyway, enough of my grief. Onwards with the THREAD!

Don't forget the LED you wanted didn't have HDMI. I'm sure it'll prove it's worth soon enough.

I've yet to use any sort of HDMI device, Could someone please give me a quick explanation of why were suddenly so mad about it... and why It's better than DVI?

Because my Xbox and PS3 use HDMI.
Because HDMI looks better on my HDTV than D-Sub (yes, my HDTV doesn't have DVI).
Because you can do audio and video over HDMI.

That's all I've got though.

The HD DSTV decoder uses HDMI. Lot's of the new dvd players use HDMI.

In my case it's mostly for the compatibility with most modern consoles (XBox360 and PS3) without having to use any adapters, just a single cable.

I just ordered myself the ASUS Designo MS LED from Frontosa.co.za for R 2200

Just another option for you to consider.

Another question for the xbox360 people. My Console is one of the first batch. Doesnt have the HDMI port above the normal connector. The LED screen only has a a DVI input and 2 hdmi inputs. Is there a HDMI cable that goes from the normal connector to hdmi?

I have one of these

Use the xbox VGA connector, and you should have a VGA(aka D-Sub) to DVI converter.

You get a MS HDMi adapter for the Xbox which costs about R400. I have one that I bought purely for optical audio out because my first Xbox had the HDMi port.
