This is quite simply one of the greatest games on any platform ever. If you don't own it, your console should report you for gross negligence. Or pack itself up and run away in the night.
What level are you playing at? What's your best number? Your longest streak?
I'm currently noodling away on Medium, which I've already completed - just trying to hit everything with 5 stars. Occasionally venturing into Hard, but it's **** hard. Difficult to say what my best number is - but my favourite songs to play are Laid to Rest, Six, and The Trooper. My longest streak was 400-odd. I forget which song, but it was something on Easy. :p

Playing on equivalent of "hard". And I seem to be doing rather decently.
FoF ftw

I'm still playing on Medium (I got the game on Thursday, give me some time k?), longest streak I think is 348, and on Dead! (Top score of 145k or something like that).
Played a couple of songs on Hard, and with much effort, actually managed to complete them (with 3 stars haha), need a little more practice I rate.

Heh, I should update this.
I've finished Easy and Medium with 5 stars on every song, and am almost done with Hard - although I've abandoned Hangar 18, Institutionalized, Carry Me Home, and Freebird for now. I'm now playing the fourth set of Expert, and occasionally bouncing back to Hard to improve my ratings there (bagged 4 or 5 stars for most songs now).
I can play Six on Hard. Go me.
Nandrew

My most recent stokage is the fact that I'm pushing a near-perfect rating on Sweet Child on Hard.
I'm running on over to Expert, too, and have tried one or two of the easier songs. No sexual violation for me ... yet.
I still need to go out and buy the game :(

The intro for Sweet Child is insanely tiring on the fingers, and I'm a climber dammit! FoF is possibly the greatest game ever created. <3

In the intro to Sweet Child..., try simply hooking your pinky out to the orange notes instead of moving your whole hand.
If you're feeling especially daring, try strumming alternately up and down.
In other news, I finished Hard last night. Rock on. \m/

Precisely my technique! Yay!
Oh, and Squid ... FoF is the greatest *PC* game ever created. :P It hardly compares to GH itself!
By the way, what with YouTube posting and all ... somebody needs to go dig up that video of the 8yo sickly pwning Psychobilly on Expert and embarrass the rest of us. And no, I won't do it. 56K is too ftl.
This might sound like a silly question but is the 360's guitar wired or wireless? On the box it looked like it was wired for some or other reason.

It is wired, but a wireless version is on the horizon, I think.

I think with Guitar Hero 3 on the Horizon we will not see a wireless guitar till then.
Still struggling with 3 songs on the last tier of Hard.
It is wired, but a wireless version is on the horizon, I think.
Why? It's silly. I mean, everything for the 360 is wireless, it's a wonder the console hasn't gone wireless yet (imagine that). The wire irritates me wile playing, it curls up and ****z.
Ah well, guess everything can't be perfect.

I just 5-starred Jordan on Hard. It took only five attempts.
I must vehemently insist that, despite the internetz to the contrary, Six is a tougher song. I've played it through countless times on Hard, and am still only at 3-stars. Although the last few times I've played it, my average multiplier was 1.9x. So close to 4 stars. :|

Hi um does anyone know of the game ' Frets on fire'?
If you don't own a console and would like a game like Guitar Hero, go here (http://fretsonfire.sourceforge.net/).
It is hosted by a guy with with a german accent and is tons of fun but be ready to be told 'you suck' alot of times.
You basically use the F keys on your KB and the pick is the enter key which makes it awsome if you own a wireless KB.
Warning-If you have a huge KB like mine with huge proportions between the keys, it's slightly harder then one could imagine.
Alsot there are issues when you turn up the res-Rather keep it on somthing medium like 800X600

If you own a 360 controller, you can use it with FoF too. Here's (http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/gaming/DownloadResult.aspx?prod=pk_xbox_cont&os=xpsp1&lang=en&driverVersion=Download%20XBox%20360%20Controller%2 0for%20Windows%5Ddownload) the driver for XP.
I don't have any problems with the resolution. *shrug*

Quite a few of us are participating in this thread based solely on FoF experience. I don't have a 360 or PS2 but I have considered buying the 360 version just for the controller.
Importing the songs from GH2 into FoF works, but is marred by timing issues. Some of the songs are almost impossible to play because the rhythm is totally inconsistent.

I bought the 360 deal for the controller, and it is win, win, win. Although perhaps a rather reckless way to spend money. But still win.
Your timing issues are alien to me, have you tried adjusting the A/V delay in the options? Additionally, a lot of the GH2 songs have a "rhythm.ogg" file which needs to be renamed because it makes some songs sound a little funny.

Just finished on medium, re-doing it to get 5-stars on all the songs, getting my ass kicked by hard though. Got 5 stars on all the songs in Easy and 100% on Surrender.

I can finally play songs on hard. Of course I'm stuck on Woman. I can do the later songs with quick play but I'm stuck on the career mode.
On the plus side I bought all the stuff from the shop, except for the bonus guitars.
I'm busy try to get all the achievements. I need to get the 1000 note streak and 200000 score now. The most I got was 198000, how irritating is that.

The basics are the same, but the battle-mode and boss battles seem a little ...ummmm... meh. I also have a gut feeling, based on absolutely no evidence or knowledge whatsoever, that the series has peaked.
But I'll give it a chance, especially if I don't need to buy a new controller.

Free Bird is an awesome song. Problem is that on pretty much *any* of the difficulties, if you screw up during the solo, you can't break into it again until the set is done. Which is damn costly.
And yeah, I actually *have* played FoF on a lappie keyboard! It was how I first played it when I was stuck with that option at Uni. Then, once I came home, I decided to pick up the keyboard. It was then that I vowed to get the guitar and not go back to that horrible original setup. Liek, ever.

It took me hours to get past that solo. It's like some sort of rite of passage or something. Remember, there's no shame in working on stuff in Practice mode. ;)
Amusingly, a week or so later, I revisited the song, and racked up 5 stars on my first attempt - including a virtually flawless rendition of that fiendish solo. Hard difficulty really forces you to dramatically improve your game. :P

I took the 360 to my folks house this weekend and the whole family tried out GH. My sisters both picked it up brilliantly, guess it helps being in a musical family, now they all want it. Their fiance's both have PS2's but they really want 360's. Mostly so they can try get me at GoW.

I had tried it on numerous occasions before getting my proverbial ass handed to me on every tier 1 song except mother.
But after hours of going through the songs on Hard at full speed in Practise mode I'm actually getting quite good at it :P
so far I've only really gone through the first 4 tiers making sure I hit atleast somewhere in the 80% mark of the notes in all the songs (*getting up to 90% with a lot now*), and it's only in practise mode, but it's still progress :)

I play usually play through my favourites (Push Push, Heart) before trying to push the limits. This game rocks because you can measure your improvement when practising. You only compete against yourself.
Also I nailed 68% on Freebird on expert.
Ah, and after playing GH at a shop display. I can tell you that FoF is much harder. Not only is the 5th fret miles away from the others, but there's no star power and some of the really tightly bunched fast sections cannot be strummed at quick enough with a keyboard.

That's a controller issue. In FoF, you can't fail a song - in GH2, miss enough notes in a phrase, and you'll bomb out and have to start over. Moreover, fast up-down strumming on the GH2 controller is an acquired art. Having played a fair bit of both games, I'd have to say that GH2 is significantly harder.

Still trying to finish them. Although I've 4- and 5-starred most of Expert already. It's just that gggnnnnnnrrrr Megadeth gggnggnnggnnnnrr song that's being insolent.

Wouldn't expect anything less from the Mustaine/Friedman combo.

Pffftttt, the Murray/Smith combo would eat the Mustaine/Friedman combo for breakfast. FACT!

Hangar 18 was the first song I finished on that tier, simply because I love it so. It is very stubbornly resisting attempt to 5-star it though...
One day, after GH3 has grown tiring, we shall return to Jordan. One day.

Finished 5 starring Hangar 18....but misirlou....I hate it!!! Cant get passed 3 stars. Just cant manage those hundreds of notes in a row, its the switch between BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB and GGGGGGGGGGGG etc that gets me!
Finally finished Six and another song that I always battled with for some reason, Less Talk More Rokk.
Want to 5 star everything I can before I get GH3. I just wanna do everything possible to ensure Raining Blood doesn't own me when I try it.

Have you seen that gloating prick on YouTube two-hand-tapping his way through that song?
We hates him, precious. We does.

Oh hells yeah, I finnished Hangar 18 on Expert just a few weeks ago.
I'm totally stcuk on Freebird though, the first time I tried the song I played all the way to about 75% without trouble, now I keep ****ing up when the song actually 'begins' (arround 45% I think)
Less talk more rock is to me one of the toughest cookies in the game, I got to about 95% the other day.
do you guys slide or tap through that song ?
I tend to begin by tapping and end up sliding.

WAAAAAAH! I JUST FINISHED HANGAR 18!
I went straight on to Freebird, and made it about 72% of the way through before failing during an exceedingly easy part. I just flubbed a few notes, and it was all over. ;_; I'll blame the residual adrenaline from Hangar 18'a triumph.
Less Talk More Rokk - conquered it yonks ago. I've actually got 4 stars for it in Expert.

Pffftttt, the Murray/Smith combo would eat the Mustaine/Friedman combo for breakfast. FACT!Hangar 18 is the 2nd last song right? And The Trooper is where?
Azimuth
15-11-2007, 08:22 PM
That's because The Trooper doesn't really showcase the majestic magnificence of the Murray/Smith combo. Try Back in the Village or Stranger in a Strange Land or Wasted Years or Rime of the Ancient Mariner or Hallowed Be Thy Name or Fear of the Dark* instead.
* Okay, that's Murray/Gers.

Yeah, I do strum up and down, in most songs actually, but with misirlou I just cant seem to get the timing right! Played Less Talk More Rokk again and getting better now, just missed 4 stars.....I also start tapping and end sliding.
I hate that song Fall of Pangea....really tedious, but 5 starred it......
A great song that I didn't realize was awesome is Arterial Black (think thats the name), really fun song.
Finally FC'd that Mr Fix It song....kept on missing by one note or something.
Just can't get enough of this game!

Unfortunately, my GH2 has come down with a case of the plague, and now boots me out with an unreadable disc error whenever I try to play anything after Sweet Child O' Mine. Oh how this sucks so very, very much. While I am going to BT Games to get them to buffer (buff?) - fix - the disc, not being able to play most of the songs is a serious drag right now.

I feel like such a newbie :(
I am averaging on 4 stars on Medium...
But it was cool when I got my first 100%! ... But I suppose I am doing well for a person that has never touched anything remotely like a guitar in her life :D

I find it's not so much the guitar knowledge but the previous exposure to rhythm/Bemani games. Miktar can pick up anything that's got rhythm gameplay in it and simply rock, thanks to all that DDR we played back when were leveling up our legs.
I have no clue if you hand me a real guitar, but give me a screen with indicators of what I need to do at certain times and I'll be on the hardest difficulty in a couple of hours.

I don't think my fingers can play for that long. Hell, Freebird is long enough...
Edit: Personally I want No More Lies.

Ooooh, and Kill Devil Hill. Actually, just about the entire Maiden back catalogue, thanks.

I've been waiting for that one to show up on Final Fret for ages.
Alas, it seems the website has died. However, not before I managed to grab Dance of Death and Hallowed be Thy Name. They'll have to substitute for No More Lies, it seems.

The funny thing with GH 2 for me is that I''m quite happy playing around on medium. Every now and then I have a burst of ambition and I get through a few songs on hard, but overall I find it to be more work than fun.

I used to think so too, but I actually got bored with the game for a bit, so one day I forced myself to just play through the game on hard, and it really prolonged the fun factor.
I was 5 starring everything on medium so easily, and I felt kinda guilty for not actually using the orange fret.
I keep ****ing up at 73% with Freebird, sometimes I get the timing completely off and I manage to miss every single note on the crazy zig zaggy section which starts at arroun 70%
sometimes I hit every single note as if it was the easiest thing in the world, which makes it even more frustrating when you screw it up so much.

One of the main reasons I love this game is that you can have a party and simply plug it in with two guitars and leave it running. People will play sets and mess around, supplying music and a show, the whole time.
We just said goodbye to the last bunch of people to leave, after they moved up to medium ;)
