Having played on many consoles I have had the pleasure of playing with some awesome D-Pads and the irritation of some terrible ones, on several controllers. My previous best used to be the Mega Drive, but it is now as follows:

Best: Panasonic 3DO - Just amazing. Playing Street Fighter II on it is a dream
Worst: GameCube - Terrible, what were they thinking? (Close runner up would be 360, not that good either.)

What would you guys rate?

I'm actually 100% with you on this one, except I'd still rate the original SNES D-Pad as one of the greats. There was a SF Alpha PS2 controller released at one point, a limited-edition one made specifically for SF Alpha, and it was -just right-.

Never got the chance to play on a 3DO, oh wait, I did...but I can't remember what the gamepad was like.
Worst was the Dreamcast controller, imo. It just wasn't comfortable.
Best? Mmmm...I like the 360 controller.

Why don't you like the GC controller? I thought it was okay.

UncleBuck, we're talking about the D-pad specifically...

Ooops...sorry.
In that case, the worst was still the Dreamcast D-pad, especially for 2D fighting games. I literally had callouses from about an hour playing SF Alpha.

I'm not sure which d-pad was the best. I'll have to think about that one.

@ Miktar - Yeah, the SNES D-Pad was actually quite good thinking of it now. Metroid Prime played very well on it, yet, the 3DO pad was just overall great, which is sad as very little people had the pleasure of experiencing a good D-Pad. I mean, the PlayStation brand D-pad is alright, but most definitly not up there with your 3DO's, SNES's or Mega Drive's.

Best: Megadrive.

Worst: 360.

I haven't had the pleasure of owning too many consoles.

Must be the SNES, I can still remember all the hours I played SF2 and Super SF2 and Killer Instinct.

Best: Sega Genesis 6 button controller DPad
Worst: The 360's DPad

I have the SF controller but I actually haven't even used it yet. The Cube D-pad felt bad but I somehow still managed to pull of some complex moves which I cannot do on the PS2 controller. The PSP d-pad is the worst. SF is sheer hell and sometimes I miss simple diagonals in Tekken.
