View Full Version : Do you floss?

I brush my teeth every morning and night, with only the occasional laps of responsibility - but the one thing I never got into the habit of doing is flossing. Am I missing out on critical dental hygiene? Ironically, in spite of my regular brushing I still managed to get one cavity - exactly on the tooth which I always used to start brushing on for the lats 20 years or so. My guess is that I actually brushed the enamel away.

Talk about random topic :)
I brush my teeth twice a day and I go to the dentist twice a year, but I don't floss.

Went to a dentist recently and she told me to floss daily.
I have the same habit as Miktar. Brush twice a day for 20 years and occassionally miss the one in a blue moon. No cavities though. Too much flourine in my teeth for any of that.
I think it is essential Miktar because there is stuff that gets between your teeth that even a toothbrush cannot really take out.
Sweets and cooldrinks do not help either btw.

I brush twice a day and floss after every meal. Seriously, I can't handle the feeling of food stuck between my teeth. I even have floss in my car for when I'm eating on the go or something, and I carry floss in my varsity bag as well.
Interestingly, my floss gets appropriated by more people than pens/lip-ice/other stuff.

Am I the only person on the planet, who doesn't get food stuck between his teeth?
Never have, never will. Only brush my teeth and use Listerine. Nice topic BTW.

No, but we use tooth picks. Sometimes playing with what's stuck using your tongue can dislodge it too.

I don't use toothpicks, and I've never gotten anything stuck between my teeth (except for once, a bit of popcorn). I think my teeth are just unnaturally close together.

It must be friday judging by the topic...
No I dont floss.
I use the tooth past with the bits of breath freashner inside it.
Great freash taste but another thing-If your mate is round and he/she forgets their toothbrush, they can just use this toothpaste to freashen their breath. It's faaaar more effectiev then regular toothpaste.
I brush as often as I can (up to 3 times a day)-I hate stink breath.
Being married to a dental nurse who she is strict over dental hygiene , she says that flossing can stuff up your gums if you over do it but once a week should be enough . She does recommend that one only use Colgate and brush twice a day with rinse with warm water.Apprently colgate is the best dont ask me why. Also toothpicks are a big no no as they chip the enamel
@ Miktar, brushing twice a day does not gaurentee no holes it all depends how you brush always in a circle and never up and down(i get lectured on this so often it had to sink in some time:) )

@wisp - I know how to brush my teeth, wisp. You didn't read my post.

sorry misunderstood , blond moment
Nah, floss is for wieners.
Seriously though, I don’t floss, ever. I brush my teeth twice a day sometimes more. I recently went to the dentist after a 3 year absence and she was pleasantly surprised at my excellent levels of oral hygiene. Mostly due to my good diet I guess. No sweeties and cool drink for me, oh no sir.
BTW, there is nothing worse than bad breath because of not brushing your teeth.

Thanks for deleting that picture. It almost made me see breakfast for some reason.
Unfortunately some people just suffer from bad breath but I have to agree with Leon. It stinks and tastes like crap.
I cannot remember when I flossed last. I really should. I just feel guilty. Brush twice a day. Thanks for the topic though. Reminded me that I need a new toothbrush :s

Brush twice and use Listerine, vanilla mint is my personal recommendation.
Never flossed, I tried when I was younger but jamming string between my teeth just don't feel right.

Floss. It's too stringy. [/HAH! Stupidity!]
I normally brush twice a day. And that's it. If somethings stuck I put on my hat of patience +250 and wiggle it out with my tongue.

Mmm... Sometimes something gets stuck between my teeth (most notably apples then meat), but I generally wiggle it out with my tongue or if in private use my thumb’s nail.
As for brushing I tend to do it only once a day, unless there is something which tells me to do it late at night.
Right now the thing causing me trouble is my wisdom teeth, probably going to have them pulled this December holiday if I remember to.

I floss once a day and brush twice a day. My nephew told me to start using mouthwash and I think I will.

I never got into flossing. It just takes too much time, (I rather try and sleep that last few minutes before I really have to get up in the mornings)
But one thing I do know, is never to brush your teeth after an evening of red wine. Apparently red wine softens your enamel so that when you brush, you destroy your enamel as well.

Brush my teeth twice a day but I never floss. My mouth is way to sensitive for flossing.

Don't like the idea of flossing, I just brush teeth twice a day.
Started flossing recently. Someone mentioned that it destroys ur gums or something, i think that is just at the start isnt it, when ur gums arent used to it?

I seriously regret not flossing more regularly, simply because most of my bad cavity's and tooth problems have been in between the teeth (usually molars).
I've already lost a "back molar", I had some root canal done, then a week later I decided to have it pulled out. I'm only 21 BTW... and now a another one is starting hurt.
Flossing IS important in my opinion.

How often do you brush though?
I don't floss, but brush twice a day (used to be thrice back in highschool) and I'm 22 with no problems.

Do you eat alot of sugar items?

Yup. Take sugar in my tea/coffee. Have a coke once a week or so. Chocolates every other day.
I didn't mean it in a judging manor, more out of interest.

I brush my teeth every morning but I never floss. If I have just eaten meat or something of the sorts I might floss but I don't do it every day.
