Good morning peoples,
I'm not quite sure if this thread fits here, but I wasn't sure if it fittend in the "LAN and online events" as well, as it's asking for support and not announcing something, so here we are.
Well, as the title says, I'm in desperate need of some kind of support for a LAN being arranged for the start of April. The date is 6-7 April, from around 17:00 the Friday afternoon to whenever it ends (usually around 08:00 the Saturday morning). Most played games are DotA and Call of Duty (usually COD4, as most PC's can handle it).
The name of the LAN is the MMPTA LAN, MMPTA being an abbreviation for Multi Man Pretoria. They hold their LANs at Abbotts College, in Silver Lakes in Pretoria, right next to the Hazeldean shopping centre.
I was one of the players in the team who won the DotA tournament at the previous LAN (held last weekend, 4-5 March), and I was asked if I can help to make the LAN more attractive so that we can host it bigger with better prizes. I couldn't think of a better way than to ask for some help here.
So here goes:
Does anyone have some kind of store or service they can use to sponsor something for the LAN, or know of anyone who would want some kind of exposure for this LAN? We are looking for anything, but there must be taken into account that the tournaments are team-based, thus the prizes needs to be team-compatible. For example, it's quite useless to sponsor a GTX580 for the winning team, as it cannot be split... Thus something much better would be for example 5 CPU coolers or 5 free antiviruses (no, AVG Free does not qualify :D) or something like that. We do have a winning cash prize, but this prize has to come out of the pockets of the players at the LAN (R20 to compete in the competition, winning team takes all). The problem is then that someone actually loses something when they don't win, and that's something I don't like very much. It causes anger and makes for an unpleasant crowd.
Now, I understand that the more players we get, the easier it will be to gain sponsors, but the players say that the more sponsors/prizes we get the more they will come. So, we need some kind of starting point, and this is what I'm asking for.
MMPTA (http://www.mmpta-lan.webs.com/) only recently started doing something realistic, as can be seen from their website that only recently really fired up. They are looking to go bigger, and if we can have one huge LAN every month or every other month, it will make for a much more competitive gaming market. I'm not quite sure how many of these types of LANs there already are, but we are aiming to start getting this thing going and letting it become bigger and bigger, with better prizes and even better fun.
Please let me hear any suggestions, tips, information or requests here, or feel free to contact the persons organizing this LAN via the contact details on their website!
PS: Last LAN had a few very good players, from both DotA and COD4, so it's a good place to test your new skills or new team to find out how effective you really are. That's what we did, and it was AMAZING fun!
Thanks!!!
