Hey Guys
We will be holding a Mortal Kombat tournament on the 7th May 2011. This will give you a couple days to get accustomed to the game and it's mechanics.
The Tournament will be held at Brightwater Commons in Randburg and is being hosted by Get Hype, AWX and Maingaming.
More details will follow such as the tournament structure, rules, starting times and prizes that will be up for grabs.
If you have the day free come down and support the local scene.

Tournament entrance will start at 10am and the actual tournament. It will get underway at around 12pm. It will be pretty standard layout, everyone will be matched up with someone else randomly and then play the best out of 3 matches. Winner moves on and loser is out. When we get to top 8, we will have the loser brackets best out of 3 where the winner of the loser brackets will go on to play the winner. The matches will be best out of 5 where the winner from loser brackets will have to win 2 sets in order to take the prize.
As for prizes I don't really want to say too much but this event will be backed by Warner Bros and AWX, so you can expect some very nice stuff
We will have all the stations set up with LCD screens, the platform will be on PS3, if you want to play stick you are more than welcome to bring your own an plug it in. We will try an run 10 at a time for the tournament while the remainder will be for casual players.
Tournament entrance cost will be R35 with lots of incentive to throw down the cash. If the more hardcore fighters want some money matches I am sure we can arrange something.
Also anyone that preorders/buys any version of the game whether it be standard or collectors, 360 or PS3 from www.awx.co.za gets free entrance to the tournament and all those that buy the PS3 edition get the Reptile DLC code + Fatality for his old School outfit free.

Don't worry, pretty much everything has been confirmed, prizes have now been sponsored to us including a 40" Sony Bravia tv and a gift voucher for any 5 games. All that we need to confirm is the date, we are looking at the 21st May or 16th July. We should Know this info very soon. as soon as I know I will be putting up all the information on all the local forums.
There will also be pamphlets being held out thanks to Nu-Metro, so you might even get something on the way to work soon :)

Holy crap! Them some good prizes there! *sigh* I still have to get MvC3 but my room mate has bought MK and we're having a blast. I was also thinking of hosting a MK tourney at Riot LAN next month. We had the PS3 out there ,jammed MK and we drew in a HUGE crowd who wanted to give it a shot as well.

Sorry man, we can't hold of an event like this for one person, unfortunately if it does fall on that day you'll have to make a plan if you want to participate. However once I know the actual date when everyone working on this has come to an agreement I will post it up.

Hey guys
Good to see some interest for this. The tournament is not this weekend, however it seems that the agreed date will be the 16 June, youth day.
Apologies for the delay but we are trying to make this tournament free entrance and obviously with the location and prizes we have a couple things to work over to get the "politics" out the way.
I should have full confirmation on all details on Monday and will post them all on the local forums.

Will this tournament use the 360 or PS3 version and will we use the gamepad or fight stick?
Reason why I'm asking is I have a handicapped friend who is interested to join but can't use the arcade stick due to one of his arms being paralyzed. Oh but don't worry that doesn't mean he sucks at the game ;)
[Edit] sorry saw the above posts, me and my friends will be there :)
[Edit][Edit] Will Quan Chi and Cyborg Sub-Zero be unlocked and will we be permitted to select them?

Hey Guys, so the time has finally come to announce a tournament we have been working on for a while.
The Mortal Kombat Tournament is being sponsored by Nu Metro in association with Maingaming (http://www.maingaming.co.za/) , Get Hype (http://www.facebook.com/pages/Get-Hype-Gaming-Events/181510855224401) and AnimeWorx (www.awx.co.za)
The Tournment will take place on the 16th June 2011 on youth day. It will be held in the center of Brightwater Commons.
The tournament will have no entrance fee however if you are registered to compete in the tournament, or you would like to play socially, you are required to bring your own controller or have someone. The platform will be run on PS3 so PS3 controllers will be needed.
The tournament itself will take place between 11:00 and 17:00, but social games will be running the whole day. We would like to request that all tournament entrants get to the event by 10:30 at the latest so we can get all the admin out of the way.
All registrations are to be done on Maingamings (www.maingaming.co.za) website.
The event is free so no excuses from the community :) get out there and come have some fun. the prizes are definitely worth playing for including the main prize, which is a 40" Sony Bravia TV. There will also be game vouchers up for grabs from the runner up. So there is nothing to lose either way you could possibly go away with some game experience and some nice prizes or just some game experience.
Registration will be up soon. we will also allow for registration on the day from between 9:30 - 11:00 am, all controllers are a must unless you have someone to borrow from. Sticks will be allowed however we cannot allow for personal button configurations, it takes far to long with this game so if you are playing on stick please learn with your default button configuration.
Any turbo features being used on controllers or sticks will be an immediate ban from the tournament.
Lets make this a successful one, the better the crowd the more opportunities all participating parties will have in order to bring more events like this to the community.

There may be some controllers provided but if that is the case the person using the controller with be fully responsible for this and need to replace it if anything happens. Unfortunately at the last event a few controllers got legs and walked away. This is why we are doing this.
Also since the event is free bring your own controller kind of keeps out some of the unwanted people that would attend.

If save files are able to be copied I will try and get those onto the machines on the day so that Quan Chi and Cyber Sub-Zero will be available for those players wanting to use them.

Wow awesome day guys, thanks for all the support.
Very happy with the way everything turned out, we had no issues throughout the day and everything ran very smoothly. We started on time and ended at a decent hour.
Hopefully we met peoples expectations and or exceeded them and hopefully people went home happy.
Well one to the top 3 and to Jag for taking the main prize. Nice new TV. Was a great final as well.
I will try and get the top 16 posted up as soon as possible with all the pics.
A lot of the stuff will also be up on MainGamings website including the pics and videos so please keep a look out for that. We will also be putting pics up on the Get Hype Facebook page where people can go and tag themselves so that maybe next time we can use names and not numbers. :)
Hope you all had fun an will be coming back for the next one.
Again another big Thank You to AWX, Get Hype, MainGaing an Nu Metro, thanks for the great event guys was well worth it.
