Rather. The game lasting so long was a bit of a surprise, tbh. In this sense, having 2 kills a night like I did with the previous game might have been a better idea.

It was nice having it as long as it was, except maybe this week. You should, in future, make week 3 count as double kill nights.

Bittersweet victory
NAGIA – Survivors of the cult terror celebrated as they rooted out and hanged the last of the Cult of Dawn, finally ridding Nagia of all cultists.
5h@un13 put up a valiant fight, but was eventually overwhelmed by the righteous fervour of the diminished by undefeated mob.
A very inebriated Raktim was quoted as saying, “**** yeah” before passing out in the midst of the convivialities.
The town suffered heavy losses during the course of this cult onslaught, with total deaths numbering 22.
http://i.imgur.com/1nya0.jpg
Town victory!
Special roles revealed:
vii - Cult of Dawn leader / Garson007 - Cult of Dusk leader
As the leader of the Cult of Dusk/Dawn, you appear innocent to the town detective.
pArker - Cult of Dawn Inside Agent / Mic - Cult of Dusk Spy
You have infiltrated trusted positions with your guile and manipulations.
Every day, while you are alive, you are provided with the name of the person investigated by the detective the previous night.
RayRay - Cult of Dawn priest / Chevron - Cult of Dusk priest
Your devout dedication to the Cult of Dawn/Dusk has allowed you to rise into a position as second-in-command.
As priest of the Cult of Dawn/Dusk, you are able to exercise your influence to amass your followers in an orderly fashion towards a single goal. You are able to, twice per game, interrupt the abilities of one of the special townsfolk roles. Send me the name of the role you wish to interfere with before 9pm and that player will not be able to perform their action that night.
CyNiKiLL / 5h@un13 / Chainsaw - Cult of Dawn member
You are a member of the righteous Cult of Dawn.
As a member of the Cult of Dawn, you win once all the townsfolk have been eliminated and your members outnumber those of the Cult of Dusk, or your members outnumber the townsfolk and opposing cult combined.
Zoop / Sir PaniCore / Ro$hi - Cult of Dusk member
You are a member of the nefarious Cult of Dusk.
As a member of the Cult of Dusk, you win once all the townsfolk have been eliminated and your members outnumber those of the Cult of Dawn, or your members outnumber the townsfolk and opposing cult combined.
Grimnebulin / CyNiKiLL- Sibling pair 1 and Mikit0707 / Ro$hi - Sibling pair 2
Special victory
You are one of an inseparable pair, with blood ties and memories that extend back a lifetime.
You share the fate of <>. If either one of you dies, the other player will commit suicide on the following night.
You win if both players are alive at the end of the game.
gordanfreeman50 - Iconoclast
You are an iconoclast, proudly proclaiming how you despise religion and its related themes.
You are able to, once a night, interfere with the actions of a cult member. Send me the name of a player before 9pm, and if that player is a cultist with special actions, their actions will be interrupted for that night. You may not target the same player on consecutive nights.
hawk - Detective
You are the detective, of keenly honed wit and wielding powers of deduction unparalleled in the village.
You are able to, once a night, discern the alignment of a single player. Send me the name of the player you wish to scrutinise before 9pm in order to undergo investigations into that character’s actions.
Demikid - Doctor
You are the doctor, providing the small town with crucial medicinal services.
You are able to, once a night, protect a player from being killed by the cultists. Send me the name of the player you wish to protect before 9pm in order to oversee that player’s night and protect them from harm. You may not target the same player on consecutive nights.
01DT!m3r - Assassin
You are a shadow in the night, stealthily going where you please, never seen, always silent.
You are able to, once a night, kill any player of your choice. Send me the name of your mark before 9pm in order to have that player killed. You may only use your ability 3 times. You may not use your ability on the first night.
X-scon - Town idiot
Special victory
You are the town fool, jeered at and derided by everyone you meet.
You win the game if you are lynched by the townspeople.
If you are lynched during the first week, your character will publically announce the alignment of two random living players.
EndKreator - Wandering Trader
You are a stranger, an untrusted individual arriving in town for a few weeks to trade your wares.
As an outsider, you naturally attract suspicion. The detective will suspect you of cult activities even though you are innocent.
Drakus / nukehead / brazed - Cult of Groves member
Secret faction
You are a member of the peaceful Cult of Groves.
As a member of the Cult of Groves, you win if the game has not reached a conclusion after 15 nights.
Drakus - Cult of Groves Diviner
A potent telepath, your association with the forces of nature grants you supernatural abilities.
You are able to, once a day, send the name of a player to one of the special townsfolk roles, as a form of guidance to help their decision. Send me the role you wish to send a message to, and the player you wish to direct them towards before 6pm, and they will be given an anonymous message. You may only use this once for each role.
nukehead - Cult of Groves Hunter
You are the Hunter, in tune with the nature of the woods and the animals.
Being out every night lets you observe the actions of other townsfolk. Every night you are alive, a single player with special night-time abilities is revealed to you. Note, this does not necessarily mean that player is a cultist.
brazed - Cult of Groves Herbalist
You are the Herbalist, a master of botany.
Your intimate knowledge of plants and their properties allows you to concoct salves for every occasion. Once per game, you may use your most rare ingredients to save a player from death at the hands of the cult. Simply tell me you wish to use your action before 9pm any Monday through Thursday and a player will not be killed that night.
NecroWolf - Friendly Neighbour
Your friendliness shines through; nobody could possibly suspect you of anything.
You are able to, once a day, send a message to a specified player confirming your innocence. Send the name of the player you wish to notify to me before 6pm and they will be forwarded a notification of your alignment. You may not use your ability on the first day.

So, big thanks to everyone for being awesome and playing along!
I figure now's a good time to share a few notes:
Firstly, I think the game went really well, and was impressed with everyone for playing fair and adhering to the rules, even though it's so easy to cheat. Yeah, there were exceptions. Yeah I know who you were. No, I'm not naming any names. To the rest of you, you're all awesome for being an honest bunch. Have a cookie. A chocolate cookie! Have two!
The stale ending was a bit unfortunate, but that's kinda a side-effect of having such a very large game. I'd honestly never hosted anything close to as big as this before, so it was a bit of an interesting situation for everyone to be in! The Resistance, if we play that next, won't have this problem by virtue of not eliminating players, and I have ideas for keeping it interesting for the folks who die early next time too, especially if the game's as large. I had some ideas to implement for this one, but I didn't have time to plan and organise everything before starting this one, so I had to drop it.
Secondly, it's probably good that I be honest about this. I did make a bit of a mistake at one point. I don't think it jeopardised the game (though I'm sure Garson will use it as an excuse to argue :P), but it's only fair to come clean. As my previous post suggests, cult leaders have immunity to detection. However, when hawk investigated Garson near the beginning of the game, I forgot about this particular detail and gave him the 'correct' information, when Garson should have appeared innocent to him. When I discovered my error, I did immediately inform Garson (knowing that the detective investigated him wasn't giving him extra information - his spy would have told him), in the interest of disclosure and so that he wouldn't count on this fact. Hawk didn't survive long enough to investigate vii, but had he done so, I would have been forced to rescind vii's ability as well, in the interests of fairness.
So yeah, but of a whoopsie on my part, but I don't actually think it affected the outcome of the game. Garson did just fine on his own after all.
Indeed, I nearly made a second mistake at some point by counting votes incorrectly, due to having mistakenly cleared the double-vote cell for the mayor vote. In fact, I'd written up a lynch post for OllieTheDog and everything, before it occured to me that it was suspicious that I didn't have a mayor vote for that day. It made all the difference to the town too, since Mic was a cultist (admittedly, a cultist that had been targetted for death by the other cult that night anyway and would have died, but the town would've been in a worse position for my error, and in the error I would have inadvertently given away the innocence of a player, actually HELPING the town if I had to reverse it)
All in all, it's a good thing I checked :P
Thirdly, I've put everything I used to perform the random selection process (screenshots of the randomisation on random.org), as well as The Spreadsheet of Great Information together and uploaded it here (http://ifile.it/y0sdeq7) (I hope that works) for anyone who's curious to see how the game flowed, and to see how I picked everything.
Aaand a final special comment goes out to Garson007, Grimnebulin, and Drakus:
To Garson007 for playing one of the best games of Mafia I've ever seen; you nearly won, all on your own. Damn those meddling Cult of Groves, and that sharp Grimnebulin. Well played, indeed.
To Grimnebulin for basically winning the game for the town, for taking the roleplaying to a level that honestly surprised (and impressed) me, and for being the best new guy ever. I hereby award you the Chippit Badge for Being The Awesome New Guy. And for being named after a character from what is only the best book ever.
And to poor Drakus, for missing his victory condition by a single night. I cringed for you. That sucked. :P
Again, thanks to everyone for playing. It was fun. :D

I seriously had no idea what to expect. With a good deal of trepidation, I decided kinda last minute to just go for it, my main motivation being that it may prove to be a good way to get to know many of the other forum members.
Clearly, my expectations were demolished almost as quickly as Geo was lynched. Tremendous fun, great battles, memorable characters....thanks Cyni for a potent partnership, and everyone else; you all made it easy to take part, and made me feel welcome to the forum in a manner I doubt I'd have experienced if it weren't for Mafia. And of course, Chippit, job bloody well done and if you need any kind of assistance with the next one, I'd love to chip in.......

Yeah, I did think that objective, along with the two siblings, was rather cruel. Admittedly, though, I didn't expect you to succeed quite so admirably at it. Neither, in fact, did I expect the siblings to last as long as they did. Clearly I need even more cruel roles next time. This was obviously too easy.

Maybe next time create a vampire or something that can turn villagers, but gets killed if they target certain villagers, etc.
Excellently done. I think Chippit deserves more than a round of applause for this one. I didn't realise how much time and planning went into setting up and managing this game until after I had died, and he did an extraordinary job. Thanks for volunteering for the task!

I knew that claiming the role of mayor would either get me killed first or see me through to the late game, and I was eager to kick off some proper role-playing in the game. Shortly after the game started, I was booked for a week-long overseas trip that would have messed with my ability to play, so the resulting lynching was probably better for the game anyway.

No, that's pretty much it, actually. It's a bit more rigid than Mafia, so I wouldn't mess with it. At least not the first time. I've never run it on a forum before - it is, honestly, more suited to being played IRL (where it can finish in about 30 minutes or so), but we'll see how it works!

Perhaps we should be allowed aliases for the purposes of the game? Whoever runs the game could have full access to those aliases to ensure nothing untoward goes on, and to make sure no one is using their alias to post in other threads? It's not going to prevent cheating, but it's an added level of control.
That way, balance is restored to the force, and it would be hugely entertaining to try to figure out who is who.
That might work. Would have to run it by Geometrix first, though.

You mean just creating a new user account for the purpose of the game? Sure, I don't mind that, but you'd obviously have to use a different email address.
When we (who-ever, just don't look at me) get the thread up and running eventually, users can simply create their new accounts. As they register in the thread, I'll go in to each account and change their user group and tag to reflect that they're Mafia-only players (in a separate user group, like juniors)*. Those accounts will then be suspended (banned, but not deleted) once the game is finished to avoid breaking the actual forum rules and causing massive amounts of confusion. We'll deal with the finer details when the time comes. There might be a more practical way to handle things.
I think it's a great idea. Will also lend a whole new angle to the role-playing.
*Oh, and don't use an obvious email address. Otherwise I'll know who's behind the mask.

Yep, that's exactly what I meant. Agreed there might be a more practical way, but I also didn't want to create extra work for the mods.
I know that the game does benefit in some aspects by players being acquainted with each other, but on balance I think anonymity will make for a better follow-up to the last one. As long as you promise to ban the first person to use a V mask as an avatar.....

I love it. Virtual characters dedicated for virtual lives. Ooh, this is gold! :D

Grimnebulin's idea is excellent. I'm all for that myself. In fact, it makes a certain plan I had in mind for the next game a LOT easier. And I can see many ways in which I might use accounts like that to do interesting things, if I set them all up myself (man, I clearly have too much free time or something).
Does anyone have school/varsity holiday dates for me? When do they start and end? I'd very much like to get a quick Resistance game done in before that, if folks are keen. The only downside to The Resistance is that it's limited to 10 players, but it'll finish a LOT faster than a Mafia game. After that's done, we can do the Real Thing, and perhaps tie that in to the beginning of the holidays, if possible.

As far as I know, UP holiday starts 1 October and ends 9 October.

Well that's a long time from now. There is much time.
Yeah, and most of us start exams shortly after that, so I'd prefer to have the game almost finished or close to it by then.

Okay, then. If nobody has any suggestions, or nobody else wants to run the next game, I shall set up a new Mafia signup thread sometime this week, so we can start on Monday. Hopefully that works for everyone.
