Seeing as we've been having random L4D2 matches the last few months, and there was a general sound of interest the last time I proposed this, I'm creating this thread for us to organise casual multiplayer (or hardcore, if that's what you prefer) games.

When talking to CyniKill earlier, I mentioned how the forums have lately acquired a very nice community-ish feel to them, with most of the regular posters knowing each other, or communicating on a regular basis. As we all know, it's often hard finding normal (read: not dicks) to play games with online (been venturing into the fray with DoW2, and already tired of the word 'noob'), so what better place than the abundantly friendly and loving NAG forums? :3

I propose we try and get together to play something at least once a week, but anybody is free to suggest and play anything, at any time they feel like it. I know this sounds like the entire point of the Online/LAN Matchup forum compressed into a single thread, but what I'm hoping for is more along the lines of a group of players who play together on a regular basis.

As for playing times, nights and weekends seem to be the most suitable for the majority of people around here, and I'll be able to play most nights, with the occasional weekend, but if you feeling like playing a game at 11am, feel free to make a suggestion.

As for games to play? Anything goes. I've got a whole host of games I can play, from FPSes all the way to strategy to card games like Magic: The Gathering. If you've got it and want to play it, suggest it. We might even be able to organise casual competitions later, with the winner's name up in lights at the end. I know I'd really love a C&C3 competition, as soon as I can get my hands on the game again. :P

I've just started this thread at a rather bad time for myself, because I'm staying at my parents' house the next three weeks, and I'm not always guaranteed an internet connection, although I should be available most nights. I can't really suggest any games or organise something right now, because of the fact that I can't say for sure when I'll be available again, but I should be able to next week.

Buuut, the the thread is here now, so feel free to organise something you might want to play. There's nothing as fun as exchanging bullets without one person getting angry because he lost. :D

I've been thinking, what if we make matches more fixed?

We organize, via majority votes (of sorts), a day and time for each game. If you can't make it, tough luck, maybe next week (or next occasion if it is set for 2+ days in a week).
The reason is because even though someone suggested a time and day, I still see non of my friends playing the game at that time, so I don't launch the game either.
Example: We all agree that Wednesdays at 8pm and Thursday at 10pm are the L4D2 matches. So it's set and we join the server waiting for others to join, knowing that they aren't waiting for THEIR friends to start the game. If there is too few players after 20 or so minutes waiting... tough luck again.
This way, there's no "I'll be joining" or "sorry guyz, iz got a killr headache, mebe tomorrowz lol" posts littering this thread.

If we can butter up our DotA skills and get to form a strong team, we may compete in the tourneys on Tuesdays. Feel free to comment or flame, depending on your LoL or HoN love/hate toward DotA.

I'm not much of a DotA player any more but I'm sure there's quite a few DotA players around here.

For those who play LoL, a couple NAG forumites play pretty much daily on EU West. Add either me (CyniKill on there as well), skinklizzard, StefconZA, TKill3r (or his alt MrHerpDerp), Elyaradine.

Okay, now to the rest. L4D2 is still pretty popular, but we haven't managed to organise a match in the last few weeks. I propose this Tuesday at 8PM for our next game. Just say if you're in or not, I'll keep count of who's in. I'm fine with changing the night, but we need to choose one and keep to it.

So the list for L4D2 versus on Tuesday at 8PM is currently:

As said, I'd like to add DotA to the list. Full game requires 10 players yes, but you only need 5 for a full team. I can host (either straight or with the WAGE bot, making WebAfrica players use no cap for the game) and everything. Thus (I don't play multiplayer often) my list will be something like:

*DotA (Need.to.play.DotA.)
*Left 4 Dead 2 (those one time Vs games were the best, we simply cannot stop there)
*Team Fortress 2 (had some good fun with Zoop and others before)
*Unreal Tournament (be it 2004 (which I just ordered) or UT3, I want to try it online a little. Bots are predictable and boring)
*Rusty Hearts (for shorter periods of time we can all knock together and do a dungeon or something in a party. Guilds require too much gold to start, unfortunately)

I don't want to say that I'll be there and then I miss out (work is incredibly irregular and can take into the late hours of the day sometimes), and as such I've not yet signed up for anything. Though, when the time comes and I'm up for a game, I'll log on, throw around a Steam msg or two and get updated with the latest and greatest. We can also consider a Mumble or TeamSpeak group for this kind of thing when we play games without integrated voice (DotA for example).

VERY IMPORTANT

Punkbuster kicks for the mumble overlay. So you need to go to options Tick the advanced tick place thingy .. and then go to Overlay and untick the use overlay option


Then an annoying thing with mumble is that it decreases ur game volume while you or others speak .. Its in one of the sound setting think output and attenuate applications by setting is the one you want to put to 0 %

I think all of us bought it when they were going for about $5 together. I'm not sure how much it is normally but it's definitely worth the money if you enjoy/ed Diablo 2. Dialogue is a bit lolworthy, but you're not really going to be caring about that when there're satyrs waiting to be killed.

Yeah I think I've figured out a way to host a local game on a Steam Group Server (be it WAGE or whatever). I'll test it a bit later, and I'll just ask a few peoples to join to see if it works :)

OK, seems I'm able to host local games now with sub-100 pings. Me and CyniKill tested it yesterday (94 ping FTW), and it worked wonderfully. I must just hope it works for all games (Versus as well), so I'll test that ASAP.

No fair, I only had a few minutes to test the game out before I had to go home. :( It's an awesome game, though. Amazingly old-school and retro. Just a pity the controls are a bit icky and will take some getting used to. Which character did you take? I immediately jumped in with Gordon. Ant Lions are reasonably overpowered. :P

Game is incredible fun in co-op, absolutely imbalanced with more than one of those destructive machines driving around the map shooting everything and trying to last-hit the most stuff.

I'm going home tomorrow, as I finish my exams then. It's for the best, though. It seems I, uhm, might have underestimated how much work it is to study for this History exam of mine. :O

I'm assuming you copied the retail program files into the steamapps folder? I did the same. Updated the retail to Patch 5 and the Titan Pack, then copied it over, and right at the end it doesn't want to finish downloading. I think it's an issue with the retail exe or something else in the 'bin' folder in UT3, as I deleted that and then it finished.
