It is an article from yesterday but I just noticed how bad it has gotten in this country. Last member count in the South African network alone topped 184k.
The larger companies are wising up to the addiction that this is posing. While I do have a profile, I do also realise how addictive it has become.
Any of you guys really addicted? It is seriously cutting into company productivity. Saw that this week when I noticed one of my co-workers was on her comp all week on facebook instead of doing any work.
Just thought I would let you guys read the article and the comments at the bottom of it as well.

Heard about this thread from one of my facebook friends just now actually. A lot of places are blocking it (ironically, most universities - the places the site was initially -designed- for - have already done so). As for addictive. It is yes. But I would say it becomes a problem when it starts taking your time away from focusing on work (so blocking it at work I would say is a good thing) and when you spend more time talking to your friends on facebook, than you do normally.
Anyway, block it where you want, you can still access it on your phone.

I don`t have a facebook account, and im glad there blocking it it was starting to annoy me at varsity. I`m not saying its a bad thing, its got its advantages talking to friends over see, but my local friends, I would enjoy it more to talk to them face-to-face
MySpace has better camwhores, thus: MySpace > Facebook. That being said, navigating a MySpace is really ****ing impossible. Relevance? No idea.
On topic.
Yeah, I'm happy they're banning it. People are sitting the campus PC labs full browsing the FB and it's just ****ing stupid. I don't want to drag my Laptop and Datacard around everyday so, roar.
And I got an e-mail from FB saying I need to stop making dupes and trolling or I'll get v&. =[

And this has no relevance to the fact that you dislike face book?
FYI there are ways around their blocks. google Http tunnel for an app.

I can understand why places are banning it, so many people just sit at the labs all day at my varsity refreshing the updates pages over and over or uploading millions of photos of the same thing. Besides the loss in production, the bandwith bills companies are having to fit is insane. For example, I think it was last month that 80% of the bandwith charges at my varsity(UKZN) were from facebook!

I'm not addicted, I just use it to keep in contact with my friends back home.

It's really useless to ban Facebook all that will happen is the people who are addicted to something like Facebook will find a replacement to use instead of it.
