I just finished reading his column in the August issue, 'The Death of a Culture', and was dumbstruck.

In the entire history of my reading The Basilisk's column, I have never once agreed with him. I always thought he wrote derivative trash, pandering to the fans he's managed to collect over the years just by writing about Counter-Strike and anything else fashionable in the e-sports scene at the time.

But in the August issue, I found myself nodding and agreeing with his points.

It's almost like he sat down, and for once, *thought* about what to write.

I'm frightened. Is this the start of a new era for The Basilisk?

Hay the Basilisk, has had some good points over the years......
*people stare*
Well I can't think of any right now.
Come on Miktar, why would your editor allow to have derivative trash in NAG?

For the same reason I stand to have his crap in the magazine every month - "There are people out there who like what he writes, and a hundred more who read each month just to see what bull**** he's writing this time".

Basically, we need an esports columnist. Anton Lines just happens to be the one we have, for the lack of choice.

Hey, I thought Anton Lines was very good at his commentating when he did it for the Unreal Tournament 2k4 matches :D

Miktar can you do me a favour?
Can you give Walt Pretorius a huge hug [or if he is a bit nervous about that, a pat on the back] from me? I agreed completely and utterly with his article about games and kids. :D

I don't really see Walt. He doesn't work at the office, he freelances for us from home.

It can happen, I also thought this months column was good. I also quite agreed with last month.

anyway back on topic... ever since I've seen that colum and read the first one or three I saw it was utterly stupid...(or I had no idea of what he said)... but I've skipped this months.... if it is true what you said miktar then I'll have to read it for myself.

Hey, can't you guys and girls make room for another column.
I bet if Azimuth wrote a column for NAG, it'd totally kick ass!

You might want to ask her if she wants to... She might have better things to do ;)
Generally I don't mind the Basilisks column...just skim read it first to see if its something i want to read or not. This month I was impressed with Walt's column... finally, i feel, someone has worded the argument (that we have all been arguing) WELL

Honestly, and this is not to be ugly or anything, I loathe your column.
Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

And I second an Azzie column if she would do it.

Um Ruandre, I'm glad you have your opinion and everything, but I'd hate to think that you spent so much time coming up with it that you don't expect people to want some sort of substantiation for it.

That was rather blunt and rude. Call me old fashioned (or respectful) but people don't generally say things like "I loathe your column" and not offer any explanation or edifying criticism where one could improve on.

I don't read any of the columns in NAG, so I can't pass any form of opinion on them, but just on principal alone, I don't think it was a very fair or, frankly, nice thing to say.

Just a thought, I know you don't care, but it had to be said.

Apologies, that was a rash response.

I HATE THE NAG REVIEWS CUZ THEY DONT HAVE ENOUGH PICTORS.

lets fite about it.

I stopped reading Anton's section when he wrote a few paragraphs on the superiority of the WASD layout over the keypad a few years back. That was just too stupid - He couldn't even pass it off as trolling, it was that bad.

Anyway, don't know why everyone's getting their panties in a knot. Hozer was a bit blunt, boohoo - It's like weed, everyone does it. Off the top of my head: Myself, Miktypoo, Azimuth and Q are few of the numerous (read, all) people guilty of it. Hozer probably has a good reason, yeah not the best thing to say - But he can justify it I'm sure.

****. I pay for the magazine, I can do with it/say about it whatever I want to. PAPER JETS MOTHER****ERS.

@ dB, yes. But before I get accused of hypocrisy - If I insult someone, that is my intention, I have reason (and often express that reason). I don't say I'm not intending to be nasty, then say something nasty.

"I'm not trying to be mean, but your mother is disgustingly ugly and should be dragged off to the fields and shot. Twice. Then burned."

Yeah. Just a little inconsistent. But yar, I said my say, and the matter is closed to me.

CAPSLOCK DISENAGE

Wut ?

I've only read Walt pretorius and Miktars colums this month but I really havn't read Antons colum for a while because I generally either think it's silly or it's just another hate colum.

Anyone else think Stolokvoknia sounds rad ?

I enjoy everybodies columns , Miktars , Dammit , Walt and even James's column cant really say that i have a favourite or that i place one above the other. Some articles are more interesting than others , but especially enjoy all the different types of humour's that each writer has from LOL to subtle sacasm.:)

I know Anton personally, and I dig him. He's a great guy, very intelligent and astute.

However, I've never liked his column, or how he writes.

It's called professional differences.
