Fable 1 was one of the funnest games i have ever played.
I loved the combat system and reading this article it seems that
they are putting even more effort into it.
I think one of the reason i never really like oblivion
was because of the crap combat system.
Lionhead is one of the only companies that makes me
feel that they are really putting game play before graphics,
although the graphics are always awesome.
I mean look at Crysis the first thing you read in any article is the amazing graphics then read this article and he does not mention graphics ones.
I am really looking forward to this game.
Some screenies for the lazy :)

Totally agree with you, but Oblivon's combat wasn't that bad just think the developers were trying to balance RPG with action. Can't wait till they realease info on the 3rd major gameplay factor of Fable 2

Lionhead is not Blue Box, btw...
Ironically, I thought the combat system was the weakest point of Fable, next only to the horrible excuse for an "open ended" world...
the combat in fable was (for me) gr8 it was simple it is one of the best game i have and well worth the R350 i paid for it :)

I would agree that it was not a totally open ended world but i loved the fighting system.
In most RPG's you simply point your mouse to the enemy and bash your your left mouse button, games like Sacred,DungeonSiege2,Titan Quest.

There, I've fixed your post.
Btw. You listed a whole bunch of Hack'n'Slash games there, not a single RPG.
Diablo, Dungeon Siege, Sacred and Titan Quest are *not RPG*, they are Hack'n'Slash.
lol
ok well then Fable wasn't a "Hack'n'Slash".
You hit space bar and then focus on your opponent where you could doge attacks or attack or block to get that super shot to penetrate their blocks, compare that to left click left click left click left click left click left click left click ........
o and you might not like it but officially they are all RPG's

Actually, officially, they're action RPGs. But we call them hack 'n' slashers, because that's what they are.
Let's leave the definitions to those people who know what they're talking about, mmmkay? Kthnx.

@ Azimuth, stop being like that. And saying those things. It hurts people's feelings. And makes me love you. I can't love you *looks away dramatically* not after last time.
P.S. Fable 2 is looking good. I must agree with the comments about 'open-endedness' in Fable 1 though. What a farce. The day a game allows me to pull down my pants and take a **** *in front of a granny*, not only will I say that gaming has finally wrought an open-ended "do-anything-you-want" title, but I will also officially shave my cat and throw it at a postman out of glee.

Agh, whatever, I'm not bothered if Fable 2 turns out to be more of Fable 1, just with better stuffz, in fact - I'm really counting on that. I like Fable because it's so simple. I have games I play just for the sake of staring at a computer screen while mashing my controllers in the bad-guy's general direction, there's nothing wrong with that.
Sure, I have my real RPGs, they're for the other me, the one that likes epic adventures and 3rd year mathematics requirements for the stats screens.
Anyway, I know nobody is saying otherwise, I'm not really arguing with anyone, just though I'd put it out there. Someone can pick it up if they'd like.
Oh, Mr D - go play Fallout - now! You must play Fallout, it is the best, you love Fallout, you worship Fallout, you are Fallout.

Wiki? Orly?
Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Computer_role-playing_game#Variant_terminology):
Many games commonly referred to as CRPGs, such as Diablo II or Dungeon Siege, are often described more specifically as Action RPGs. This subgenre tends to be faster-paced, more skill intensive and focused on combat, while lacking developed plot and dialogue. Sometimes Action RPGs are also referred to as hack and slashers.
The argument is now over. I was right.

Look, we all see where you're coming from, but you have to understand that you're coming up against a wall of terminology that has been very much defined - one that you will come to understand very quickly, so don't worry about it.

I remember the huge time gap of Halo and Fable coming to the PC, but Fable 2 will probably be available for PC as well (After a huge time gap). So its probably better to satisfy your hunger by getting it on console.

Looks to me like Wikipedia lists Dungeon Siege 2 as an action RPG now. This, incidentally, proves two points. I imagine you should be able to figure them out.
Give it up, Vexo. As Miktar pointed out earlier, why not just quietly learn something here instead of being so pointlessly difficult about it?
This argument ends now. Vexo, any further commentary about this, and you'll get an infraction. Not because I'm a spiteful bitch, but because this has gone on long enough. Back on topic, please.
*throws lollipops*
[EDIT] Dungeon Siege 2 did have branching conversation trees, but they had no impact on the game. It simply doesn't count. There isn't really any actual roleplaying in that game besides being a serial killer. ^^

Fable was one of the coolest RPG`s ive played, becuase it had a nice arcade feel to it was linear ok too linear. Fable was something new in style, and also I liked the graphics it looked cool and made the game feel like a story which it should
I do agree with Miktar on the combat system, it wasn`t the best but compared to the average pc rpg it was something new something diffrent. My bigest problem however was the difficulty of the game it was insanly easy also the menu system was icky
I hope Fable 2 improve on the weaknesses of Fable TLC. I for one am looking forward to it

I know one of the original comments in this thread was about gameplay taking precedence over graphics (something I agree with), but I do have to say that those screenshots look awfully pretty.
Sort of reminds me of the style of Monkey Island 3.
Azimuth i saw you got Overlord.
I have only played the demo but somehow the game reminded me of Fable?
Azimuth
08-08-2007, 08:54 PM
Hmmm. Visually, it's certainly very similar indeed - although Overlord is much, much prettier. But the gameplay is totally different. I'm not even certain how to classify Overlord, although I suppose action strategy would do. The two games really aren't comparable in terms of what they actually are.
ReinHer
09-08-2007, 07:49 PM
I thought Overlord was very ugly and the game didn't offer any anti-aliasing option, unlike Fable, so I had to force it. It kept looking unbareably ugly untill I took the AA to 16XQ (Q?) and then it looked ok and most of the jaggies were gone.

Never said it wasn't a great game, I loved it myself. But it was incomplete, unfortunately. Same with Black & White, but I think that was more of a fan hype thing.
One game that they hyped about allot was Battle for middle earth 1.
Every month we saw a little clip about the amazing new features.
Like you don't have a worker you just build on those circles.
What happened ? The game was crap.
They realized their mistake and launched Battle for middle earth 2
where they basically took Battle for middle earth 1 and took out all the
"amazing features" and imo Battle for middle earth 2 was a grate game.

Seriously, one button combat in Fable 2? I've heard (Albeit from previews) it plays well, but it sounds kind of boring. Maybe its going to be a combo system or something.

What is with you people? Do you really want a game where the combat system requires around 30 different buttons? Simple is better, espicially on the PC. PoPs control system on PC was frankly retarded, ahving to keep my one hand on the mouse, while my other hands fingers try without merit to stretch and hold bothe the A key and P key at the same time...
Paradox
12-08-2007, 02:35 PM
AFAIK this has only been announced on the 360.
Simple is better, but it can be difficult fighting with one button that does everything, from parrying and blocking to offensive moves, So one button to attack and another to block is all one could ask for. But hey, if their system works, then it works. I'm not asking for three hundred buttons, but not simply one either.

imo, Fable was horribly dissapointing when compared to various previews yet it was still a quirky fun game to play that had super badass looking swords and hammers and shat.

Nice screens, I'm just disappointed that it's not planned to be released on pc. However, this might eventually happen since there have been various pc ports as of late. I hope that I won't have to purchase a 360 for this, *sigh*.
TBH, The screenies so far look alot like fable 1 in terms of graphics... not a huge upgrade...not that I mind, just noticed it! I hope it has some awesome features and thingys... Oh i loved fable played it a billion gajillion times!

I love that little troll guy with the bucket on his head. For all its faults, Fable had some marvellous art direction and character design - and Fable 2 is picking right up where its predecessor left off.
I never heard about fable before playing it, so i had no idea that it was supposed to be the holy grail... and to me, at the time it was the holy grail! I loved it! and hobbes = pure win! And the pink pimp hat! And the awesome assasins clothes! OMG! I LOOOOVE FABLE!
*goes to find his fable cd's...installs!

I can dream, can't I? I got my wife to play Diablo 2 and Sacred. So this one will be no problem. She'll probably want all the gold and I'll keep all the experience points ;)

Just like in Overlord, it was so cool to see how much gold you actually had.
I'm really considering getting a 360 for this and a few other games that aren't coming on PC.

Apparently one has to acquire a job in order to receive gold. Monyleux also announced that an assassin is one of the various occupations available ;).
Ya the others jobs sounds boring !

Not only can you play as a female, you can also get pregnant! Imagine popping out a lil' blighter in the middle of a quest! LOLZ

Nooooooo! Jobs in a game world sounds so wrong.
But being the assassin proffesion makes it right.

Yeah, but not if my wife sends me "to go get a job" again!
If assassin is the only cool job then everybody is going to be evil.
They must have thought of that.
In Fable you could buy a house and rent it out, maybe that's the way to go after having enough gold to buy a house or 2.

Then we can start the ''I bought my 360 for Fable 2'' club.
Yeah, no offense to GTA4, but if theres one game that could get me to buy a 360... it will be fable2! I needzz it! It just looks so sodding awesome!

I completely agree. Even though I played the first Fable on PC, there is no way I'm letting this gem slip through my hands. I'll even consider going to a friends house telling them that my parents are away at a conference, just to use their 360 *Evil Laugh*

Lol, we thought about that, but then most of us wanted to call it the "I bought my 360 for Fable 2, GTA4, GoW2, Force Unleashed, and to play Yoda in Soul Calibur 4" Club.
And I'm sure there are plenty other "reasons" out there...

I originally wanted an Xbox for Dead Rising, but alas my dreams where shot down by my parents' "Waste of Money" ray-gun.
My current plan is to save money... So when my birthday comes(mid august) I can ask for a 360, and then i have some money for games... Its a shot... I just wonder how great a 360 is going to work at uni, i almost have no time for games any more, so I'm hoping i can find time for my 360! :D But i need to convince my rentals that a R2000 console isnt a complete waste of money! :D

Purchasing a 360 is not a problem. However, a decent display is.
Im planning on using my 19" LCD(which cost more than a 360) lol! But it has a 2ms refresh rate, so i think it would look pretty damn good. What do you guys think? Think it would work well?

Definitely. Remember, you'll also need the xbox vga cable.
I plan on playing on this.

I plan to use this beauty... Its 19" but its not widescreen... would that be a problem, or can i play on a normal size screen?
Oh and one more thing, can I plug my normal desktop speakers into the 360?

Yes the official microsoft vga cable comes bundled with a sound jack that you can plug straight into your subwoofer. Your monitor won't be a problem either as the xbox 360 supports 1280x1024.
What do 360's cost atm? I need a cheap one! And what does the cable to connect to the monitor cost, and is it readily available?

The xbox 360 arcade is the cheapest version however, the arcade package contains everything one would need, as long as you're not going to be frequenting xbox live. It come bundled with a 256mb memory card which proves abundant for game saves, however it isn't convenient if you're planning on downloading multiple arcade games and game content. It's an excellent deal for only R1999 (http://www.take2.co.za/games-xbox-360-console-arcade-3170850.html).
Well, I'm planning on using it at uni, and i dont have broadband here that isnt firewalled. So i wont be going on Live at all. I just want a nice old fashioned offline console... Would the arcade suffice for that purpose? Also, what do games cost for the 360? Im not buying a console where the games cost 50% of the consoles price. And controllers, does the arcade have a wired or wireless? And do i really need a hdd? Whats the use of a hdd?

Game prices vary dramatically, for no reason that I can identify. :/ But they're generally in the range of R450-R550, with some few titles (GTA4, for example) coming in at a rather unreasonable R699 or so. Having said that, BT Games' rental and secondhand games are your new best friends. Also, come on, man. Get off your arse and find some information for yourself. Start here (http://www.btgames.co.za).
The VGA cable costs somewhere around R300 or so, and is widely available. You can buy one anywhere that sells Xbox accessories, including major retailers like Look & Listen.
The HDD is - surprise! - for storing content. If you're not going to use Live, forget about it.

It would really be a treat if we could acquire a local xbox live server in the near future.

Okay, seriously, for once and for all.
South African gamers can play on Xbox Live without any problems. I use iBurst (wireless! It's supposed to suck goat nadgers!) for gaming on Xbox Live, and have a good connection with no discernible lag or glitching problems. I play CoD 4 and Halo 3 with the internationals several times a week.
Don't let the lack of local servers hold you back. Xbox Live is the best way to game online.

On Friday I signed up for the BTGames Games Unlimited thing. Definitely the cheapest way to game. Decided on the R99 per month option (one game at a time for as long as you want, max 3 per month).
And creep, just buy the Arcade. The 256MB memory card is enough for the save games.
