Is anyone else playing this?
It's a brilliant romp, with some of the most hilarious dialogue I've yet encountered in a game (the court jester is the stuff of gaming legend). And I've never taken so much wicked delight in a game as I do when I send forth my rampaging minions, and the little cherubs tear everything up. There's something viscerally pleasing about it all.
This game has really lived up to its hype for me.

I only got it yesterday, so I haven't yet had a chance to really get stuck in. From what I've played so far, I'm enjoying it. It's just good old-fashioned fun, something I find lacking in many games these days.
Love it. I'm still pretty much at the start of the game, but I'm enjoying every second of it.

I've finally reached the Green Minion hive. *rubs claws together*
On my way catching that fat dwarf dude. That moment where your minions danced to that violins' tune= Brilliant!

I think i was on my way to kill my third "hero"

Ahhhh a game that lived up to its name. I have all four hives available. And openend all four maps. Life force is a bummer though (especially to create a weapon) So remember you have access to the arena, go fight a few beetles there!!! just be careful taking on 20 of the large beetles is not a easy task!!!! Do not take them all on at once and try to lure them group for group.

What I especially love about it is the sacrilegious subversion of traditional and canonical fantasy stereotypes. Carnivorous unicorns and horrid halflings ftw.

Very fun game! Just a tad short. Has anyone found all the minion totems? I still need that last one. Gonna start over and be good this time!

So... Elves, yay or nay? Decrepit, dying race of pansy spectres or fallen noble ponces that need saving?
Who doomed them and who didn't? ;)

I intend to doom them. They're so insufferably emo.
I'm still hunting for the Blue Minion Hive, though. :P

Doomed them, took their statue, burnt their forest, forgot to save their women.

Just killed Oberon, the game is a lot of fun, but I'm starting to find it a little repetitive. Finding red life force to be a mission to get and the red minions are very squishy. I must remember the arena though, it had slipped my mind.

Ive been playing Overlord here a lot been trying to do all the quests i can. But it is just so bloody amazing, especially the graphics for a game like this where you just control minions
Enjoyed it very much although it ended a bit fast... 25hours to complete it.
I also farmed the dungeon to get my Arcanium Mace damage [only that] up then with that I could just farm the dungeon again for the green beetles to get my Arcanium Helm up to 15 extra minions [had 50 in total on screen]. Best thing is seeing 2000 minions running to the forge.
At the end I only had like 15% Corruption xD sad indeed. :P

They should make a mod allowing the player to make capes. I would love a full cape instead of some streaks of cloth hanging from the neck making me look like a hobo.
i hope there will be a Overlord 2 it screems sequel.DANM COOL GAME I LOVE IT!!!!

I haven't come across the PC version where I usually shop for games (Cavendish Square, CT) but I'll get it as soon as the shops have stock.
The PC demo rocked. I got a XBOX360 controller for my PC and it works great with the ported games like Rainbow Six Vegas. Alas, I don't own an actual Xbox360 :(

Mwhahahaha....it's odd sometimes I actually don't want to kill everything in sight in the game but it's just soo much fun to be So corrupted!! It's such a great game!
Btw is anyone running it...properlly on their PC? If so you have an Overlord of a pc.
Plays nicely on the settings I have in the pic...

Only thing that I did see is that I cannot do anything if I alt tab coz my AMD 3800+ x2 run at 100% all the time.
Also started again but this time I am going to try for 100% corruption.

I know how you feel. I remember the first brown I had outfitted with full gold armour and weaponry. He looked like a Spartan. He always led the rest of the minions too, brave fella.
However, it wasn't long until I had 20 browns like that. My own personal army.
Also, "Grinder of Goldo and Ravager of Rollie" = epic win.

Thanks Chippit, that really helps *sniff*
Out of curiosity who has stuck with Rose and who chose Velvet? Maybe I'm getting older but Velvet just looked too slutty. And stronger blues made sense to me.
@RazoR89: I get like that with the game sometimes too, it usually passes when i realize there is something fun to be doing that I was missing.

Personally, I stuck with Rose. It made sense to strengthen to majority of my forces. And Velvet reminded me overly of Xana from Dark Messiah.

I went with Velvet cause greens are the ****. Running with 45 greens the final boss died in two attacks. ( Sorry if thats a spoiler in any way )
I stuck with Rose coz my brown minions made up most of the pack... always take 25/30 out of the 50 in the end game, anything but the dwarves with the flame thrower just drop in seconds. For them you at least still need some reds to distract them.
For the second run I will get Velvet coz she also get yours corruption lvl up.

Overlord demo seemed OK but hardly amazed me. The overlord himself feels a bit light weighted and also doesnt seem like they worked very hard on his movement animations... but hey, seems everyone else disagrees, so...

I actually worshipped Dungeon Keeper, so I can't help but feel offended when overlord is compared to one of the greatest games ever... Overlord will definitely not go down as one of the greats if you ask me.

The most important thing any game can aspire to be is FUN. Overlord is fun. Greatest games ever? Who cares - lists like that are so subjective anyway.

Perhaps, yes... but some games end up being more than just fun. Some games will stay in our hearts forever, and I just dont think a game should get a 90+ score unless it's one of those really, really special games. Anyhoo...
Cant really form a solid opinion of the game just by playing the demo.
yeh stoff it does seem as if it could get old after a while, but then again perhaps the full version is really packed with goodies to keep us happy

Yes, but again - what appeals to one person does not necessarily appeal to others. Fallout 2? Brilliant RPG, best I've ever played, can't enthuse about it enough - I'd give it a 97. But some people* hated it.

Azimuth
12-08-2007, 06:46 PM
Well, I've already blown in excess of 10 hours playing it. I'd not have if it weren't any good. Which is not to say it'd appeal to everyone, but I think it's tremendous fun. If I were reviewing it, I'd rate it in the mid- to upper-80s (and I'm a miserly bitch when it comes to scores).
MrDeVil_909

I concur, if I was a reviewer I'd give it 85. And it is only superficially like Dungeon Keeper, which is also one of my all time favourites.

I've been playing it recently, since I got bored with World of Warcraft. It's really fun once you get the hang of it, nothing beats beating things with your minions. The humor also adds to the appeal of the game. It's just a game that you can play for a long time. I've gone to Evil/Good route though, can't bring myself to kill those peasants. :(

Bought it over the weekend. A site, i forget which, likened it to Pikmin, but less ghey.
I've already got all 4 hives and am absolutely loving this game. It's more puzzle/action than strategy, and normally I'm adverse to puzzle games, but Overlord does a magnificent job of masking the fact that you're playing a puzzler. It's somewhat nonlinear which is a nice touch, and the freedom to wander around and torment and pillage villages whenever you want for extra treasure and lifeforce is just great, giving it a strat/rpg-lite flavour. Execution is superb. It has some minor flaws with the control scheme - I would have liked to see custom grouping of minions(eg group 1 could be some browns, greens and blues mixed, instead of just all browns) and the 'sweep' mechanism with mouse/keyboard feels goofy/glitchy, but these are quite minor annoyances at best. Overall it feels like one of those instant niche-classics ala Sacrifice or Gothic, but with better production value, which is suprising considering the studio and publisher.
P.S "Wenchbane" hahaha, classic.
Azimuth
13-08-2007, 11:24 AM
The sweep works infinitely better on Xbox / with a controller.
Custom groupings are an interesting suggestion, although it had not yet occurred to me - I've simply not felt the necessity. I wouldn't want to send my reds and blues into the fray with the others anyway, as they'd be picked off in seconds. Besides, you always want to put your greens, reds, and blues under a guard banner to maximise their skill usage.

13-08-2007, 12:16 PM
No doubt, you need an analogue with variable instead of absolute positioning. I picked up that that transition, at least, from console to pc wasn't done quite right.
Custom groups is simply a nice-to-have. Since the game wasn't designed with the necessity to do so, I've also not really found the actual need to. Was just something I picked up during gameplay, probably from being something of a RTS vet.

I played the demo and it came off extremely linear, is the entire game a bunch of scripted scenarios, with the only variation being the type of minion you use?
Azimuth
13-08-2007, 01:04 PM
No no no, not at all. The stage featured in the demo is how the game starts, but once you're through that, a huge part of the game world opens up, and you've got several options for what you're going to do next. Although the game is objective-based, it doesn't feel especially linear.

I love the game soo much. But on my PC it is lagging so much :( . I get like 9fps in some parts. I dunno why. My PC is a 3.4ghz Celeron D / 8800GTS 320mb / 1gb ram. Any body got a clue why ??? I think it is my CPU maybe and I am running XP.

I finally got the blue hive! It was a bitch to get.
I had to keep looking for water creeps to get their life force so that I can spawn more of them critters.
Plus I ended up fighting that sea monster alone, cause I was in a hurry and didn't want to go all the way back to spawn more minions.
I barely came out alive.
I love this game to pieces.
