Its a nice layout (reminds me of prophecy) in general it seems clean (pitty about art.craft though)

Why do you prefer the old one? This new one is totally better?

1. This new one is not wide enough. Im running 1024*768 at work and its like a third of the page is blank.

2. Hardware/tech is rip. It had two thirds of my posts.

3. At first I didn't like the GNN, but now I've grown accustomed to seeing it. The news sites I've got open don't always have the news that comes up in the GNN.

4. Post count isn't missed, but the ranks are. eg 666 evil 667 wuz evil

5. Colour scheme needs thought(the are 60's over). The old colour scheme just worked.

6. What's up with "Kalingingrad south africa" as a time zone?

7.Nag logo should be on the left.

As I think up more stuff I'll edit my post.

Agree.
Some things bugging me might've made me prefer the old one, but I like the upgrade to vB, has a similar feel to IPB

I think I'm a bit between the first and second options. They need to be wider though, I'm on 1280x800 and things are really thin. Something closer to the old (current) forums would be much better. Perhaps an option to customize the width? :s

@ Chevron

1. This new one is not wide enough. Im running 1024*768 at work and its like a third of the page is blank.

I've set it to be 80% of the screen width now, is that better?

2. Hardware/tech is rip. It had two thirds of my posts.

Sorry, but the hardware/tech section was really a waste of time, considering the local online communities that are already established.

3. At first I didn't like the GNN, but now I've grown accustomed to seeing it. The news sites I've got open don't always have the news that comes up in the GNN.

I'm sure that General Gaming will receive the same quality of news, if not higher quality due to the nature of the 10 post restriction before creating topics.

4. Post count isn't missed, but the ranks are. eg 666 evil 667 wuz evil

The ranks are a fun toy, but they're really not conducive to actual participation.

5. Colour scheme needs thought(the are 60's over). The old colour scheme just worked.

Ironically, my original colour scheme lacked the orange, but after a lot of debate in the office we decided it needed some brighter colours to make it look more friendly. And what's wrong the 60s? You sound so jaded...

6. What's up with "Kalingingrad south africa" as a time zone?

vBulletin had it like that on default install, but I've fixed it now.

7.Nag logo should be on the left.

Why?

Kraken
09-07-2007, 05:17 PM
People read from left to right? I'm not sure, but most of us (including me) prefer it on the left :p

Miktar
09-07-2007, 05:24 PM
Theoretically, doesn't that fact make it more worth our while to put the banner on the left first, to make sure it has proper "exposure"? :P I just made that up. Truthfully, I'm just tired of Logo On Left and Left Justified content.

Does it really ruin it, to have the logo on the right, near the right hand?

I wonder if people's handedness influence where they prefer logos...

I think that people are whining about stuff that's not entirely important. I love the new site. I mean honestly now, this is the same old "bawwww It's not what I want" that Miktar gets pummeled with with each new forum and it- OH ****, up-beat and positive *cough*

What I meant to say was: Wheeeee! Come on guys! Let's try to look past the superficial and aesthetic thingies and have fun! I mean, like, we're here to play games and be, like, super awesome and talk about them and stuff! The colour scheme and logo position doesn't really affect that now does it? :) you silly sausages teehee

Agreed. The hardware section was nice and was nice to help people who have problem and get help if you have a problem for which you don't know the answer.

4. Post count isn't missed, but the ranks are. eg 666 evil 667 wuz evil

I will also miss the ranks, why not bring them back but keep the post count hidden. They where really cool.

5. Colour scheme needs thought(the are 60's over). The old colour scheme just worked.

The colour theme just doesn't look right. It looks funny and out of place. The old forum had a nice colour theme, something soft and not to bright.

7.Nag logo should be on the left.

Also agree. Right now it looks as if the add is more important than the NAG logo, which doesn't really matter but most logo's get priority over adds. Personally I think it will look better on the left.

Well, while we're all blabbing about this, thought I'd share my opinions:

Like:
-Colours. Orange is pretty, and the black/maroonish combo is really easy on the eyes. I spend a rather silly amount of time on these forums, and when I flicked back to the old forums to check, I immediately realised that I prefer the new colours.
-The simplification/unification of the sub-forums. More sub forums means more splintering of the threads, double threads, useless/stupid threads, and a bunch more undesirable stuff. I'll miss A&C, but I guess I just need to find a proper arts forum to hang out in.
-The way thread/forum titles are presented. It's neater than the old way.
-Quick reply!
-Limits on sigs = less clutter, more chatter.
-Ooooh, just saw this now: quick-clickey-on-profile-name-options. Yippee!

Dislike:
-Nothing comes to mind, really.

So, basically, I'm down with the new forums. The previous one was a step in the right direction from the one before - simpler, better, faster ;), and this one is another step in that direction.

Yay for change! Down with stagnant cesspits!

Wait - one little suggestion: Any chance we could get an ever-so-slighty off-white background for the text fields? It would just be so nice.

Zen

I in all honestly just don't like this forum compared to the old one, sure simplification is good, but why take away one of the more creative sides of gaming the A&C section?

Also another thing is, all these forum resets are going to really kill the amount of members that you get. I remember way back, when NAG used the e107 forum, it had something like 3000 members, then the new one came and it only has like 644.

Though on a positive note, I must say this forum responds quicker than the other one.

All forums that don't reset get massive numbers of inactive members. A good clean out every so often is good.

These forums won't be reset from this point forward, as part of our new strategy.

No, it had 100 members, and 2900 inactive accounts that didn't get any logins for over 5 months. :P

I personally miss H/T.

The red and yellow stripes are nice, but the thick black line on top of it is irritating (too much black). Can you maybe remove that line.

Love the quick reply feature.

Unfortunately, how the page gets constructed out of table cells makes that impossible, without damaging other parts of the design.

I find it quite ironic that this is coming from a person who nit-picks on silly spelling mistakes. To each his own when it comes to being superficial, isn’t it? ;)

We apologize for the inconvenience, and promise that this will be the last time users will have to deal with recreating their accounts.

As the cynic and realist in me, and some knowledge gained from the previous forums, I find this highly unlikely. That said I'll be keeping out a keen eye on just how long you (obviously referring to Miktar) can keep with a single database, might even break the 2 year term this time. :P

From my point of view the new layout is made of win win win. It's not cluttered at all with this simple box design, for that I congratulate you. Also I've never had experience in running a vB forum, unlike the other forums (except for e107, which I hated) I've seen hosted on here, but it doesn't put me off one bit as quite a few of the forums I regular uses this and I've yet to see really big shortcomings (from the forum user's side).

Note to those talking about the load-times: As the database gets bigger so will the load-times get longer; naturally this will navigate faster than the old forum.

Cute. But not quite. Search within yourself to see the fallacy in your logic, dear chap. Oranges to oranges, garson. When you can show me the importance of proper textual communication being on the same level as having a board for every member's fancy (and them being equally feasible), then perhaps you will have some ground on to move on. But for now you're working with nothing. kthxbai.

Garson007
14-07-2007, 03:36 PM
Proper textual communication, sure, but some of them is as proper as need be (read: readable). However when a person takes it as important at a more shallow level of incorrectness I'll dub it as being superficial.

Q-Man
14-07-2007, 03:54 PM
And I dub it as intellectual. So there you go, your view, mine (only mine, I daresay, is more correct - based purely on what "proper textual communication" involves).

Still can't compare it to what you claimed was ironic in your previous post; but hey, whatever gives you kicks.
