The PC edition was released in Germany on May 9, 2007; release in other countries will be at a later date with the UK and EU release on July 20, 2007,[2] the US release on August 14, 2007,[2] and the Australian release on August 9, 2007.

Thrilling fight choreographies, gripping characters and realistic worlds create new dimensions in the genre. The title also introduces new benchmarks in content. Experienced script editors link the cinematic story with maximum gaming freedom in a medieval fantasy world.

* Offering a freedom of choice unseen in other Role Playing Games. The world literally comes to life as it immediately reacts to the player's actions and changes accordingly -offering new and exciting challenges.
* Strong, non-linear storyline. Players can shape their own story by choosing the path of conducting the main conflict and resolving meaningful side-quests.
* Spectacular and dynamically choreographed fights. The combat system combines intuitive steering, tactical challenges and movie-like visual experiences.
* Free and unlimited character development. Players can experiment with different careers and even reverse their former choices with the help of "career changers".
* Unique magic system. The Players are allowed to assemble their own magic spells.
* Animals to be ridden on. Players can travel and fight on various animals from horses to tamed lizards and beasts.
* A choice of traps and snares are at the Player's disposal making the gameplay both rich and flexible.
* Huge variety of items to be found. Randomly generated pieces of equipment, thematic sets and combined items offer the space to experiment and satisfy the need to collect.
* Wide range of beautifully rendered terrains: from high mountains to seashores and deep caves with all of the locations featuring ultra sharp texturing and stunning design.
* Hyper-realistic tree physics and sophisticated weather system make the world come to life as has never been seen before.
* Advanced Artificial Intelligence that manages group behaviour of large virtual communities.
* Up to 8 players in the multiplayer mode.
* Symphonic music to make the experience more emotional and memorable.
* Extensive usage of Pixel Shader 2.0 and 3.0, HDR, multiple materials and unique shadow engine to ensure the best visuals possible.
* Support of Multi CPUs and Multicore CPUs, SLI and CrossFire Technology

Okay, all the hyperbole aside, Two Worlds is a classy hacknslash like Titan Quest or Dungeon Lords or Sacred (more like Sacred, since both have German developers and sensibilities) but with a more Oblivion-style open-ended world.

We've been playing an imported German version, and we're not sure yet who'll be distributing it in South Africa but we hope someone does, since we think the game is worth it (especially after the 1.4 patch).

The combat takes some time getting used to, since it's more than just mashing the mousebutton until a creature dies - proper timing of the 'dodge back' key is vital to surviving early encounters, especially with bears that kill you in one hit. But bears are slow, and if you spot the attack coming you just tap Dodge Back and then wait for the bear to go down on all fours again.

The magic and alchemy system is interesting, although sometimes an important quest NPC pegs it thanks to wandering bandits or wildlife. Thankfully, plot-critical NPCs can't die and you can always get the spells/items denied you when a quest NPC dies, later in the game from another one.

Just like Sacred, Stalker, Gothic 3 and other east-block games, Two Worlds is a little rough around the edges and has generally silly voiceacting and dialog (although the dialog does contain a few gems).

Check out the screenshots below, and if you have any questions I'll try to answer them throughout the week when I get time.

After paying close attention to dedicated fans, the Two Worlds development team at Reality Pump have been hard at work preparing the official 1.4 update for Topware's epic free-roaming RPG. A huge number of suggestions, proposals and requests from Two World's steadily-growing fanbase have been incorporated into the 1.4 file, which marks a significant update from smaller updates released soon after the game's European mainland release. Coming in at 298 MB for users updating from the 1.0 retail version (1.3 > 1.4: 176 MB), the 1.4 update brings a considerable improvement in both gameplay and technical terms and is not to be missed by anyone who's been lured into Two Worlds' rich and incredibly detailed universe. The 1.4 update will also be included in the US and UK retail versions, which SouthPeak Games will be releasing in late summer 2007. The 1.4 update can be downloaded from the support area.

That's from the official website, and it's good to see them paying such attention to the fans as well as the impending European and American release. Including the 1.4 update with the US and UK release will help the game dramatically, since the patch really does fix the most critical issues we had with the game.

This game looks brilliant, any idea on when it will be released locally then?

Oooer, that looks splendid. I do hope we see a local release soon. I've played Titan Quest to death.

I know Greenstone has the distribution rights now, so probably around the same time as the UK release.

Here are some more screenshots, mostly of the new dragon-horse I found, which has replaced my necro-horse. This game just gets prettier the more I play it, it seems. I also just found an NPC that lets you 'regress', basically returning all the attributes and skill points you've spent for cheap, so you can redistribute them and try out new skills or max out ones you like.

Divine Feces! This looks good. I hope we get it here sooner rather than later.

@ Miktar are you playing the game on a 360 or p.c.?

Miktar
12-07-2007, 11:42 AM
PC - the 360 version isn't done.

Gambit

Is it very resource hungry when compared to a game like Oblivion?

Miktar
12-07-2007, 12:32 PM
No, it is surprisingly light on the system - I can alt-tab in an out of it easy (to check a walkthrough).

Gambit

Could you give the spec's of the system you are running the game on at the moment please.

Miktar

I would, but I don't remember what my home machine is and the person I could ask is busy. :P

I like that it's "multi-core optimized.
I hate seeing 1 core maxed out while the other is idle.

It sounds rather interesting. Especially that "dodge" ability.

Is it more arcade-y or more RPG heavy? The developers noted (on Team Xbox) that they used Oblivion as a benchmark. I'm a huge Oblivion fan and loved the visceral fighting it provided.

Miktar

BlackHawk, you should read the thread - it's a hacknslash like Dungeon Lords, Titan Quest and Sacred, with liberal sprinklings of RPG elements. It's not Oblivion, not by a long shot - and the developers are misrepresenting the game as an Oblivion clone.

Hi

Is anyone still playing Two Worlds?

Whats it like?

I have seemed to have missed this one. And what does that huge patch do?

Thanks in advance

Yep playing it as we speak, but on the Xbox. I cannot say I am hugely impressed...

It get very boring very quickly, but as a RPG lover I'll push through and see how far I can get..

I played the demo on my pc.

There's not much to say, it's basically a generic RPG with WSAD movement. I wasn't to impressed either.

then again, it was the demo.
