Just need 1. They have 3 so that you can Quad sli on the more expensive mobos (which doesn't really work)
But if I were you, I wouldn't waste my money on SLi. There have GOT to be other things that you need.
Why the hell would you need more than 1 88Ultra anyway? Crysis will still not run at above 40fps on ultra.

It's the smart thing to do. Can't believe you'd consider SLi when you don't have a high end quad core

Yes, SLI ain't all it's cut out to be apart from being a great marketing gimmick to make absolute bloody idiots (like, say, ME) buy two cards instead of one.
The techology isn't perfect and you will never get close to the "twice the performance" they promise you. It took me two full weeks of experimentation with drivers and settings to finally reach a point where everything now finally performs as smoothly as with having just one good card, plus a -slight- additional performance increase.
At first, some games did not recognize my cards. Sometimes half the screen would flicker black. Sometimes every other frame rendered several shades darker, and sometimes I wished a botfly larvae would devour my brain and make the pain go away.
Stick with one good card, it'll save you clumps of grey hair.

Besides doesn't an OC'd GTS 512 outperform the Ultra?
Get that with a decent cooler rather imho.

Why? There is nothing that warrants upgrading from an Ultra. It's just not worth it in a pure cost/performance sense.

I mean if you are going to go buy the Ultra. I would assume that anyone considering SLI is planning on buying as closely matched a pair of cards as possible.
