No, first off. Take 34 mil, put it away into a 7 day call account and then splash out on the rest. Or for the next 40 years of your life you could live on a pleasant 2400 pounds a day.

Actually, I was asked the question the other day "What would you do if you won the lotto?"

Im surprised how many people said they would give X amount to charity. I was thinking, with that kind of money, couldnt you make your own charity and wouldnt that be more logical?

the rest of the money could be put into an account and create a few businesses to keep the money flow coming in and then that money could make sure you and the rest of your family has a nice retirement.

well since I could buy a car and new PC ( i would buy a ford focus ST and a quad core and still have **** loads left to invest-it doesnt make too much of a difference.

I would start up several companies and then donate to charity using a percentage of the profits. This way the money would do more while keeping an income keeping both the charity and myself happy.

Win-Win :)

^^ Trust me, if you won that much money you wouldn't be seen in a Focus ST.

"R490 000 000"
Wow, Imagine that in a bank.
7% interest a year is R34 300 000 a year.
R2 858 333 a month.

I could live off that, think of it, you'd never spend a cent of your money.

You're disregarding the income you would gain just by having the money.

I'd try to live a normal life, while paying myself a monthly salary at round about 0.5% under the interest rate, or in the case of a country like the UK, nothing under 1% (Their interest rates are exceptionally low). That'll be around £ 30 000 per month.

Basically I'd first see what I have, what I can do with it, where to invest it, etc. before I even think of what to buy. That said I won't ever want a big house in any case.

Trust me if you saw where I had to park the car, you would understand why it would just be a ford focus but dont get my wrong-It would be a bitching kickass uber sexy focus

Then I would get a F430 and then a S65 AMG. Yep that sounds nice :)

I'd buy an Island, and then get hundreds of hot girls, all major bands, everyone of my friends and a gigantic beer fountain..keep them all on a pay roll for 50 years and when the money drys up, sell everything, get my fourtune back and live in a gold hut somewhere in Tailand.

Garson, did you bother to read what I posted in the first part of my post? The second part was just a stupid little comment I threw in.

I have seen what interest can be earned. I watch the interest rate all the time just to keep up to date and make sure I am not getting lost.

I wasn't calling you stupid. I just said you disregarded interest rates in that -specific- line. *shrugs*

I think according to the law (it might have changed) but in RSA you cannot be charged tax for money you havent had to work for.
So the lotto winner wouldnt be taxed on his winnings.
As for england I'm sure its very high though-They love their sin tax.
I should think 20%? anyone got wiki on speed search?

^ Screw it. With that much money you order a hit on the taxman, buy his corpse, sell it and then pay tax on the sale!

Haha if only life was that simple. As far as I know, you are taxed on all income, regardless of its origin.

I'd buy and sell properties. Lots and lots of properties. I'd live a comfortable life, splash out on the odd thing but try to always invest through the things I buy.
