View Full Version : Do you have an unusual phobia?
Many people have the ?normal "phobias like spiders, enclosed spaces, the number 13, but others, like my self, have slightly strange ones.
I am terrified of cut out dummies, you know the one I mean , life-size cardboard cut outs of a person normally advertising a c d or similar product . They stand in most music shops and major retail stores.. They give me nightmares their eyes seem to follow you were ever you go..it freaks me out
Anyone else got any weird phobias ?

Hmm, I don't think this is a phobia, per se, but there's some weird occasions when I'm terrified to step out under a clear night sky.
If we were to elevate that to status of a phobia, then I guess it could be called "agoraphobia". I think that spending waaaay too much time in front of a PC or indoors makes big wide space places a little bit freaky at (the most random) times.
Also, I have an irrational fear of serial killers. You know. Stuff.

I had an insurmountable fear of the Barracuda/Kreepy Krawly at the bottom of pools when I was younger. That noise they make (when you are submerged) really freaked me out. I could not get close to them (like within 2 metres!).
Every now and then, pangs from that fear return and I force myself to swim to the machine and touch it.

Agoraphobia is the fear of people and public places, not open spaces.
I am petrified of heights, but not when I am in a plane or something. Only tall buildings(even inside) or rope ladders.
Going to the top floor of humanities at tuks is a bitch.
I have a weird fear of those store dolls with the huge red smiles.
Those things creep living bejsus outa me.
I don't have a phobia or a "stopping-you-from-carrying-on" type of fear. Though if I had to point out a fear I do have, it is of the unknown.

Y'know, I doubted you for a moment there, so I checked up on it and found out that my definition is indeed a common misconception of the word's meaning.
Go figure. +1 cookie 2wo u! ^^
And yes, Kreepy Krawlies are damn terrifying. :(

Only heights... but that's pretty normal, although, if I only think of heights my body also tenses up.
I'm afraid of heights too.
I've got a low down desk, looking down to pick something up I get a little panic attack.
Glady not like that

Don't laugh but I have a fear of drains! You know those ones in the pavement that are used to stop the streets from flooding! I fear those!

Yummi_kitty, if you ever confront a great white in the ocean.. Tell him that, and let me know what he says. k? :-)
As for the people that fall off chairs.. It's proof that their are incredibly stupid people in this world. lol.

I have a terrible fear of getting hi-jacked, smash'n'grabbed, mugged. I'm basically paranoid, and if I'm driving late at night, I don't stop at traffic lights. But I hardly think thats unusual or a phobia.

I fear: the dark (lol), silence, lightning, spiders (because I am allergic to insect bites, especially spider ones).
(dont mind the spelling and grammer its read-a-bil)
is it weerd for a person to not fear death, i mean if im flying in a plane and the capten says we are all going to die it won't bother me, or geting mugged and stabed or hi-jacked and that person kills me i accsept it as apart of life and its not to be feared. I hade some close calls in my car (REALY close). its hard to explane
so i want to know is there a name for it?

My god man my eyes!
Anyway, different people have diffirent ways to deal with death, you not being scared of it may just be your sub-conscious telling you that you are at peace with your life(if that is what you meant). I dunno, I'm no expert.

You don't have to be afraid of spiders, coz they're like .... not insects. ;)

I'm not too keen on the dark. Spiders are strange, sometimes I will freak out irrationally, other times I'm pretty chilled and think they're 'cool' (probably has something to do with the size I rate).
its funny i fear spiders but not death(is it not sipose to be the mother of all fears?) :/

Death isnt the mother of all fears. Why be afraid of something that will happen.
When you **** yourself and scream like a girl when somebody points a gun at you and jumps from the dark, thats not being afraid of death (I guess) I think thats more instinct taking over and protecting your body.
Meh.
Im afraid of dead people, no jokes, I have been around 2 corpses in my life and both times I have freaked out. Something about my father telling me that the dead can come to life and get me in my sleep when I was younger started this fear.

I'm not afraid of death or dying (been close enough to know), but I'm terrified of being tortured to death.
Also used to be very afraid of seeing any ghosts or the like...

I'm not afraid of dying, but of how I do.
Suddenly and painless is the way I'd like to go.
Wouldn't mind going sleepily and slowely in a hospital bed, of old age.
Drowning/Burning to death scares me.
I'd rather take a bullet to the head than one to the stomache and be left to die.

Losing my sight.
Dude, you are right! That, and having my drawing hand crushed or something. I wouldn't be able to cope with that. :/
