Just wondering if any of you guys play instruments.
I play the acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar (yeah, I'm really into guitars) and piano.

I play the organ. really really well.
And I play guitar hero 2. That counts, because I say so.
In all seriousness though, my musical aptitude ends with singing, and playing a few (very few) songs purely by ear on the piano (in before "YOU CAN PLAY WIF UR EAR LOLOLOLOL")

Guitar Hero doesn't count 'cos I say so.

I play Piano.

I started teaching myself guitar, but I broke my arm right after I started.
Someone doesn't want me to play guitar...
I'm taking piano at school, at Grade 4 now(in piano)

I play the fool - ridiculously well.
But for cereal - I wish I could play a musical instrument. I remember starting guitar lessons when I was 8, but I gave up after a few sessions because I thought being taught country music was retarded and wouldn't help with anything. Kinda sucks, I'd be so ninja by now if I had been playing since then.
:sigh:

Like Piano > All, but I can't really play it. I taught myself a bit when I was about 10, then stopped. I'm still sad my mother was adamant on sending me to Karate instead of piano lessons. ;_;

I play piano, though I don't do grades. I'm not that good. I also did guitar once but it didn't really work out.

lol***get.
I play acoustic guitar. Been playing it since 11, when I started lesson's and ****. Other than that, I have my Stanton entry level set (the one with the 2xT.50's), but I don't want to get into the whole "spinning vinyl =/= instrument" **** now, so w.e. Got into it, 2 and a half years ago.

Played both piano and guitar while in high school, but I was exceptional at neither. Competent, but not good enough to warrant me carrying on.

Dude, a person is not a lol***get just because a person wanted to play the piano and not do karate classes [I actually know some gay martial artists so your generalization becomes null and void].
<end of bitch>
I play the piano and the drums.
I stopped playing the drums because it was boring, all you do is keep the same rhythm throughout the entire song.
Piano is one of the most versatile instruments, hence why I think a lot of people play it.

No offense but how can you say that!???
Drums can be one of the most unique instruments and the things you can do is endless. Do yourself a favour and search Thomas Lang on youtube to see what I'm talking about ;)

You know, I was going to start off this post with "Protip:", but I did that last time you jumped on one of my obvious troll posts and it led to more confusion.

I play Acoustic Guitar, Electric Guitar, Bass and Piano. I love Bass (thanks to Chris Wolstenhome from Muse and Les Claypool from Primus).

You strike as the kind of person with little to add to a conversation. You and I are going to get along great.
I play rhythm/lead guitar, bass, drums, and a little piano. I'm a one-man alternative band...

Actually it's more of me being the type of person who throws in some jokes and e-humour here and there ALONG with keeping with the topic at hand (I think I elaborated as to which instruments I play), however - This is NAG. Lookout, people run around with all guns blazing. :]
But, yeah. Sup.

None taken, Insomniac, I am not saying I don't like the drums - I mean, they are the base that holds an entire song together, I'm saying there is a limit to what you can do on the drums solo. Yes, you can be like animal and wow your friends with your amazing skill but, (bad comparision I know) compared to the piano you can't do much.
I like playing an instrument by myself, sometimes singing along in my head while I do so, that is not possible with drums nor bass guitar. If you take the role of the drummer, in a strict sense, in the band,; you play one beat for the verse, a slight flair before going to a modified beat for the chorus (which, to my embarrassment, can include just hitting the crash cymbal instead of the ride cymbal - original :( ) then revert back to the normal beat for the verse.
Depending on the genre, you either have a section where its either you keeping a solid beat while the lead guitarist relives his/her godlike status or you alter the beat for the bridge.
Yes, all the instruments are the same and play the same type of chords in the song, but it is a heck of a lot easier to follow where you are in a song (from a lyrics perspective) with a 'lead' instrument than with a base instrument.
I took your advice and looked a video on Thomas Lang: Yes he is good, I notice he uses a traditional marching band grip with his drumsticks (one hand overhanded the other underhanded)
thomas lang is amazing at everything on drums. He is sooooooo fast and technical.
If you want technical, you should have seen Garth, the drummer from Sugardrive - That man knew exactly where his hands needed to be every second he played - That guy had discipline!

Play guitar. Have an Ibanez RG470, great for shredding and metal, but less than sparkling tone.
And just bought a Takamine Natural EA40. The most beautiful sounding accoustic I've ever heard. Highly recommend it
PS it sucks to be a lefty

Heh, being a lefty is a bit sucking when it comes to guitars. Still, I've picked up a few cool lefties over the years - a black Ibanez RG (excellent shred neck, as you pointed out), a black and white Squier Strat (that I tricked out with a DiMarzio humbucker), and a black Epiphone SG (my babeh).
Still, I yearn for a lefty Explorer.

Tried the lefty SG that they have at Toms. A bit of a more vintage kinda sound (ala old school foo fighters) but very nice. Had a squire, and hated it. Guess I shoulda thought to change the pickup before selling it (may have held on to it then).
What are you using for distortion? I've got a Boss GT8, which is a great pedal for effects, but a bit crappy for distortion. Nothing quite gut wrentching enough. Any suggestions that won't cost the earth?

A vintage sound "ala old school Foo Fighters"? My lamb, your old school and my old school are several schools apart, apparently. For me, it's a fat Black Sabbath tone that sustains into next week. Throw some distortion on top of it, and you've got a versatile hard rock / metal monster. The thicker neck takes some getting used to, but the smaller frets are great for li'l girl hands like mine. :D
I use a Boss ME50. I considered the GT series, but something about the analogue effects of the ME50 appealed to me. I'm very happy with the distortions available on it, but remember that your amp tone must be taken into consideration too. The greatest distortion pedal is going to sound rubbish if it doesn't mix well with your amp settings.

Sorry, wasn't very clear. Didn't mean that foo fighters itself is old school. It's just that when I tried the SG, it seemed to have that kinda grundgy fuzz on it.
Old school definitely includes the likes of Sabath, Zepplin and Dio. Would love to hear your setup on it. I'm still trying to get a decent in flames/bodom type sound on shredds, but not getting very far. I've got a fairly average Marshall MG50. Was gonna get a full marshal stack, but decided to use the money on moving into a new place. No regrets though. Will buy myself a stack Xmas'08!

Well, part of the In Flames sound, at least, is their unusual tuning. As far as I'm aware, they tune down two steps, and drop the lower E another step down. So I suppose that makes it a dropped-Bb tuning (gah!). It produces a markedly different sound to standard E or even dropped-D or C tuning, as it's so bowel-looseningly heavy.

Also a big In Flames fan, but have been listening more to Dark Tranquility recently.
O and i play guitar also (Epiphone Les Paul Classic), not very good i might add.
