I liked Code Geass. I'm going to watch Kanokon, Kaze no Stigma and Black Blood Brothers. Any opinions on these?
Also, I know it's not technically an anime, but the new Thundercats cartoon is ****ing awesome!

The latest episode of Fairy Tail was quite awesome, had that whole feeling of desperation and teamwork.
Currently watching the second season of Getbackers and this show is freaking awesome, The best characters being Midou Ban of The Evil Eye and Dr Jackal. Shido the Beast master is also quite cool.
afterwards I plan to watch High School of the Dead, watched the intro to it and this show seems quite... ecchi.

F*ing laptop. Gotta type everything out again! >:(

HSotD's ecchi level: bouncing boobs, pantie shots and shiny lips. :/
I finished Mahō Shōjo Madoka Magika, GOSICK and episode 3 of Mobile Suit Unicorn.
Kaos was right, Madoka was AWESOME! I wonder what a second season would be about. :?
GOSICK was epic! Truly a wonderful mystery! Good enough for me to change my avatar! :D
I still prefer Gundam 00 than Unicorn. 00 has more suspense that I liked. But yeah, I can't really compare an OVA with a two seasons. However, I love the older anime character drawing style (bit my tongue here)! It's a really nice break from the recent norm! Quite refreshing! :)

o_O`
It's hard to say. I only watched SEED in English on Animax and that was... what? 5/6 years ago?
Unicorn is pure Gundam! Meaning politics, giant robots shooting pew-pew particle beams, and a kid being the pilot of the strongest Gundam.
It's worth watching then! :D
(I only recently noticed that Unicorn has already been dubbed. o.o)

Finished Getbackers and definetly reccomend it to anyone despite its half arsed ending. The characters are all likeable and it mixes characters with amazing abilities into a realistic setting in a way that just works so fluidly.
Started watching High school of the dead and its quite good, not brilliant but still decent. The fan service us done in a way that it is not too impeding bur its still too much. Its hard to like the characters and their backstories when the Anime forces you to see them as nothing but a giant pair of walking tits :\

Ah yes Samurai Champloo is pretty good. It takes the samurai anime genre in a strange trippy "be cool" kind of direction. And I also love the intro theme song.

According to wikki 5-8 will be dubbed close to the end of 2011. They are releasing it simultaneously for the 2nd Hellsing Ultimate set. I already have the first set, and already asked animeworx to keep a copy of the new set and to give me a call as soon as it arrives.

Just finished watching EVANGELION 1.1 and 2.2 (The newest evangelion movies) and I have to say that this new take on the story is amazing. They managed to make the series more accesible without dumbing down the psychological and theological elements. The dubbing is also done brilliantly so it is one that is good to watch in english abd some of the new voice actors are amazing. Seriously Im in love with Rei simply because the english voice actor portrayed the character so perfectly.
Definetly cannot wait for the third movie.

I already posted it elsewhere but:
http://bitchspot.jadedragononline.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/Thundercats-2011.jpg
So who has started to watch the new Thundercats? I'm going to go out on a limb here and say: Until Avatar the legend of Kora starts to air, this is the greatest cartoon series I've ever watched. It just ****ing rocks that they got the Larry Kenney to voice Lion-O again. And the new Lion-O is just awesome! I love that they got the voice actor from Batman Beyond to voice him. I also love how the series grew up with it's fans while being able to win over the hearts of new viewers. It's only up to episode 4 now but I believe this show is going to go down in history as a classic. The new Avatar series has some big shoes to fill now(but there is no doubt in my mind it will be just as awesome if not maybe more so).
Quick show of hands for nerds: Who thinks the new Cheetara is the hotest furry evar? I think she dethroned the current champ Felicia!

Love NARUTO!!! :)
also Bleach, Death Note and a few others
High school of the dead is stunning. Just simply the best new Anime series that I've seen. It's got loads of everything that made me love the genre and excellent English dubbed version. This anime is better than The Walking Dead tv series anyday. Bottom line: It has zombies, lots and lots of zombies that gets whacked, shot, stabbed, and dying( a second more permanent death) in very gruesome ways. It's got amazingly looking anime babes that gives legendary fan service and more importantly it just looks awesome. Very well executed. 5/5 rating from me.

Thats the very reason why I hate watching the newest stuff. I don't like waiting for a story to unfold, If I did, I would've been an avid fan of Days of our lives. Anyway. Does anyone know of any good new series of anime to suggest, and also any horror anime, something similar to Ghost Hunt? The new Thundercats is ok, but my main problem with it is Lion-O. just the amount of times his personality changes in a single episode.

I finished watching Angel Beats and I was blown away by it's brilliance. Had me in tears quite a few times. Have a few Anime lined up for download, will let you guys/gals know how it turns out.
Any one have any suggestions for a more mature emotional experience? I have watched clannad before and it was amazing. Haven't gotten to the after story, but will have downloaded it eventually. If there are any other anime like that, let me know please. :)

No it doesn't!
It's a really "arty" anime with great insult humour and wordplay! The outro has an EPIC song! Intro isn't always the same, which was a nice effect that fit the anime!

Seems like Eva 2 has some sort of samurai crest on it's forehead. That looks cool, but what I want to know is at the end of 2.22 when they show the preview of the 3rd movie why is Asuka wearing an eyepatch and why is she even still alive?
Well in the End of Evangelion movie, Asuka lost her left eye and her right arm was split in two, before being torn to pieces by the Eva series and she appears at the end next to Shinji, with an eye-patch and all bandaged up, no explanation given. It could be half a reference to how she ended up in the EoE movie?
Like with all the other references http://miotd.com/images/20100610.jpg
If it is going to the direction the image implies, that would mean Kaworu/Tabris is using the original Eva 01, complete with S2 core
Also, I hope this doesn't mean what I think it means http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ANNO_2922.jpg

Finished watching Stein's Gate up to date. I'm completely blown away... But why oh why Lord do I have to be such a sucker for romance in anime??? *cry*. Hope the final episode on Wednesday has either a completely open ending, forcing them to make a second season, or it should have an ending as closed as a clay camel's a$$, if they don't plan on making a second season. I hate it when they leave loose strings all over the place leaving it up to your own mind to finish a story or to continue it.
For those interested, I'd place Stein's Gate in a "Sci-Fi drama" genre. It's very, very good and somewhat emotional depending on how sensitive a person you are. The animation is brilliant the story is captivating. Bit of a warning, it starts slow, but gets better and better as the story and characters develop.

Finished watching the last episode of Stein's Gate. The ending is as open as you can get, which means one of two things. I'm screwed when they announce there will be no second season, or I'm actually looking forward to 2012 when the second season will start. Either way, the ending was good, good enough to leave me with the hope that the beautiful red head won't die in the destined time line
Recommending this anime as a must watch for 2011. BTW, Thanks for recommending it Jodez

Just finished with Chaos;Head and it was brilliant. Very different and the main character is a very good departure from the norm. Also expect to be mind-****ed time to time.
Gonna start with Steins;gate, which is Chaos;heads spiritual sequel and apparently set 1 year after chaos;head in the same universe, so if it's even as half as good I'll be happy.

Ahem, From Wikipedia: (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steins;Gate#Anime)
Steins;Gate is set in the summer of 2010, approximately one year after the events that took place in Chaos;Head,[5] in Akihabara. Physical locales of Akihabara like the Radio Kaikan building can be spotted in the game.[6] According to Chiyomaru Shikura, who headed the planning of Steins;Gate, Akihabara was chosen because it is an easy place for acquiring hardware parts which makes it the ideal place for people interested in inventing and tinkering with things.[7] The notion of time and time traveling are the main themes of the game.[6][8] The concept of cause and effect is featured prominently in the game as the protagonist travels back in time numerous times to perform different actions in an attempt to alter what has happened in the future.
So yeah, While they are not part of the same story or characters, they do take place within the same universe.

I've read that a long time ago, but thanks!
Just please explain how they can be "in the same universe" if there aren't intertwining events or characters from each other? They have no connection except for "easter eggs". The time setting they took place could be even be 5 years apart and it wouldn't matter.
But I admit, this is purely just from the anime perspective. I have not played the visual novels yet so I have no idea if it is confirmed within them... somehow.

The visual Novel of Steins;Gate have several referances towards Chaos;Head, such as news broadcasts that dictate the Anniversary of the New Gen events and the Earth quake in shibuya. The Visual novel also Contains an E-mail which states that due to the liquidizing of that evil company in Chaos;head (Can't remember the name), That SERN have become the largest technological research company in the world (Something along those lines). The game actually has quite a few references to Chaos;head.
Played them both on PC.

:) Thanks for clearing that up!
I recently finished Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle Season 2, and although the pace got irritatingly slow at the end, I'm quite sad it ended. I really want to follow the manga!
TsubasaRC isn't one of the best anime's ever. It's actually quite "kind" and relaxed, however I still enjoyed it. I remember how the first and second episode of the first season tore my heart apart. The thought of me being in Syaoran's situation is heartbreaking. Unfortunately very few moments in the anime had that gripping effect on me. And I'm REALLY interested to see what happens in the end!
Currently watching an EPIC old-ish anime called Hikaru no Go. Basically, it's about a young boy who, guided by an ancient soul, starts defeating champions in the Japanese game Go even though he never played it before. So far I'm loving it. I can't wait to see where the plot will lead to!

So just to bump this thread up again as it seemed to have fallen by thr wayside...
Anybody been checking out some of the new stuff? This season doesn't seem all that great but there are a few that have caught my interest:
Persona 4 - based on the game (which I never played so I don't know much about it)
Mirai Nikki - It's like a cross between Death Note and Fate/stay Night, has potential
Guilty Crown - which reminded me a lot of Code Geass but with more action and seems to be probably the best anime of the new stuff
So, anybody else been checking things out?

Considering this was the stuff I was watching, as it came out, when I first got into anime, it's depressing to see it called "old school", or "old" in general xP
Vandread was one of my firsts - or, that is to say, was one of the anime I was exposed to during the "ramp up" phase of the cycle of anime exposure.
Very first was the Rurouni Kenshin OVA. Boy did that make an impression.
Well, actually, that was the very first "novel" experience. Technically, though most people ignore this, my and many other people's first exposure to anime was the stuff we saw on tv as kids. Heidi, and all that :P

To be honest, my very first exposure to anime was when I was watching Dragonball Z and Yu-Gi Oh! on SABC 2 back in those days. I only officially got hooked to anime after my friend showed me Naruto, Galaxy Angel and other shows like that, so you could say that some of us only got into the anime craze when we first saw it on TV.

The reason for that, if I remember correctly, is that the mangaka for Fairy Tail worked as a trainee/assistant for Eiichiro Oda, the mangaka for One Piece. As a result, Oda's style had a large impact on him, and resulted in the style we see now.

Kicked off the 2012 anime season with Another, Brave 10 and Daily Lives of High School Boys. All 3 just got released this week so it's too soon to tell how they're going to be. Just finished watching Episode 1 of Daily Lives of High School Boys and I'm already killing myself with laughter. It's almost like the male version of Lucky Star. I expect lots from these shows during 2012! XD

What did you think of Another? It's not particularly scary even though it's supposed to be a horror but the first ep was very interesting and I can't wait for more. Could be the surprise hit of the season maybe?

I found it very interesting. It's still early days for the show so we have to see what happens as the story progresses. Otherwise, I also can't wait for more episodes from this series. Do you think Misaki's eyepatch has something to do with her dark past at the school?

Extreme ecchi. Anyway Shakugan no Shana is one of "those" anime. The type that either you loved it at first sight or you can't stomach it. I would suggest if you didn't like it then back out, but I rather enjoy the characters of the show.

I wish they'd continue the Gantz anime. I've been reading the manga and I can honestly say that it just gets better and better as it goes along. Truly, truly epic, with characters that actually have a soul, who actually evolve as things go along. Now if only they hadn't changed the live action movies so much it would have had huge potential.

Bleach is what I read to be angry at shounen :P
One Piece is fun, but mostly because it doesn't take itself seriously, and as a result I can casually forgive its heavy use of shounen tropes.

Oh hells yeah. Really looking forward to see a more intrinsic adaption of the manga, one of my big favorite epics in general.
It's close to what they are doing with the Evangelion remake, a series of movies covering the Golden Arc story line.
Trailer for the first movie hitting next month is here:
22lRpLAwY04
The movies will be covering the Golden Arc of the manga, volumes 3-13, which is the same that the older anime covered, though in this case the movies will include all the content that the original series left out - Puck (http://media.animevice.com/uploads/0/321/32486-puck_large.jpg), Silat (http://skullknight.net/encyclopedia/world/characters/tapasa.jpg), and the Skull Knight (http://media.animevice.com/uploads/0/321/21598-skull.jpg) being the foremost omissions.
Not sure/clear if the movies will include the first thee volumes, which technically are part of the Retribution Arc (first three volumes of the manga serve as a glint into what happens in the later parts, but form the earlier part of the later Retribution arc).

I finished Kuro****suji II (Black Butler II) yesterday.
It really was great to see Sebastian again! :D He's so cool!
Overall, it had the same feeling of mystery as the previous season. Music was great. Intro and outro's were decent. Art, detail in movements and the visual effects amazes me still! Plot gets a bit weird near the end before giving the biggest twisted ending I've ever seen.... similar to Soul Eater (anime) I guess.
Although it's only 12 episodes long, it's still an awesome watch for those who've seen the first season. As for the rest, I recommend Kuro****suji (and the second season) to you all!
Next I'm watching Giant Killing, currently on Episode 4. This is a anime about Soccer.
Anime about sport have attracted me easily. I don't know why, but it appeals to me I guess. Eyeshield 21 and Prince of Tennis are good anime to watch if you are into such a thing. :)
As for Giant Killing, the visuals are amazing! Lens flares, depth perception via blurring, and colours work well! Another thing I like about it so far is the main character is not a teenager, but a 35-year old man. (YAY! No more boring and overused school settings! \:D/)
As for the plot, unfortunately it's too early to say. It kinda looks predictable, but it's still early and I'll give it a chance.

I checked it out, I saw some gifs of the new movie, will check the trailer out. I finally started reading the Manga's, on 29 now. Must say that I'm very excited about this. Just hope they don't cut all the mature stuff that makes it so intense.
And its so stupid that they cut all those characters in the older anime, didn't even know about them until I started reading the Manga. The Skull knight rules.
Just hope it doesn't take forever to get here, I need to buy this as soon as possible.

Turns out Viz Media pulled the crunch on them, forcing them to remove all Viz Media related products.

Annoying, since the Viz stuff firstly comes out half a month after mangastream's stuff, and secondly often has worse translations (americanized puns etc injected in).

Err... not-that-great scans (okay quality, but at times questionable translations) if you want them relatively on time, or pay up and use Viz's media which is two/three weeks late, and rife with American colloquialism. IF you can get it to work. ;p

Yay! An anime thread! :D
Well, I'm relatively new here so ohaai! My MAL list link is: http://myanimelist.net/animelist/simoneslatnpou. I'm pretty sure it sums up everything that I've watched so far. I can't really pick a favourite show or even my favourite manga because the fact of the matter is: there is so much out there!
Luckily the list sorts out that problem. My favourite 2011 shows would probably be Steins;Gate and Mawaru Penguindrum. Both were exciting to follow and the art was nicely done. Of course Magicka Madoka was also a great one for me; I have a weakness for the work that SHAFT does.
I'm quite excited by the currently airing Chihayafuru, I kind of hope that it will have a second season. Bodacious Space Pirates is also quite fun. I simply can't wait for the second half of Fate/Zero. You can smell the high quality artwork from a mile away. I'm quite happy with how the Fate Stay/Night series stuck to the original Visual Novel routes but the second season is just mind blowing.
So a lot of exciting shows this year. Hopefully there will be less ecchi filled shows and more epic ones. Only time will tell if the generic mold would be broken for the most part.

I can never do this anymore. When I first got into anime, I did this, but it ruined the series I watched this way (hellsing, Love Hina) - this was back in 2000. So from then on, to preserve my interest, preserve the experience, and generally enhance the activity overall, I would watch ONE episode of a certain series a day. I could watch multiple series a day, but only one episode each.
Very rarely, a really good anime would come along and force me into the terrible situation of watching TWO episodes of that series a day (SUCH SCANDALOUS NATURE).
Hard to express how much it improves the experience. It stays in your mind longer, so you get more attached to characters, so you cheer/cry more when stuff happens to them. Plus, you know, it lasts you about a month instead of two damned days.

I'd agree if someone, anyone in Bleach would just die.
To be honest, the Rules of Anime only really applied to 80's, 90's, and early 2000's anime - and currently only apply to the most niche products that get little exposure outside of japan ('cause, you know, the most popular stuff here is yaoi, bleach-likes, and eechi).

I just just watch Akira though. It was pretty awesome. Didnt really get the ending, but i still enjoyed it.
While the movie isn't that bad, I'd heavily encourage you to find and read the manga that it was based on. The movie suddenly becomes minuscule in the scope of the original story (plus it will actually make more sense) - and is an amazing epic in its own right, one of my favourites.

Just finished Another today! The ending is very sad, in my opinion, but the series as a whole was very good. The series takes a huge turn at the end, with secrets from the past now being revealed and stuff like that. The realization that Ms. Mikami was actually the dead person after all quite shocked me. What made it more shocking was that Ms. Mikami is actually Reiko, Sakakibara's aunt, who is later revealed to be Sakakibara's dead mother!!!!!!! D:

Fixed. This Anime is the worst. I got up to ep. 450 or something and just had to stop.
Yeah, don't really understand the writer at all. This arc started off really well and ended so terribly.
But to be honest I'd never be able to say it's the worst. First 65 episodes were the best consecutive 65 eps of any anime I've watched so far,
so I guess it has a special place in my heart.

Actually, the story in Bleach manga is ****ing worse right now. It's tooooooo predictable.
In the latest Bleach manga chapter, Kubo finally killed off one of the good guys. Nel Tu and Harribel (who is actually an ex Vasto Lorde oO) are back. Too late. I stopped caring about the story anymore.
Almost every new villain looks exactly like Aizen. LAME-ASS
Naruto manga's still awesome, story-wise.
I think that Tobi is The Sage of the Six Paths's another younger son (The one who was jealous of his elder brother)

Don't you know? The first law of anime is that everyone's favorite character always dies.
If they kill Kakashi, there's going to be hell to pay. He's one of my favorite ninja characters, super cool, highly skilled and unintentionally hilarious. For those that are following the Naruto manga, any ideas on how long it is before the series comes to a close? Is the end in sight or is it going to be one of those anime/manga series that, seemingly, go on forever?

Full metal Alchemist Brotherhood - it follows the manga which makes for an amazing story.
Basilisk - Incredibly amazing storyline and good fight sequences.
Hellsing Ultimate OVA - It's Alucard, come on ;)
Death Note - The mental battle of wits between Light-Yaganami and L/mello/near is AMAZING!!! :D

Old, there's been this scare for almost a decade. Can't comment on relevancy, but I do know there's a current case where a person was arrested for possession of child pornography, which was in fact his collection of manga, his illustrative scribbles, and pictures he drew of different sex positions using chibis.

As that one guy from some movie once said: "****ing people"
Seriously though, it's funny to read something like this being an issue. I remember when DBZ was on SABC2, me and my friends' parents just couldn't understand why anyone would draw characters with such big eyes and such big teeth(lol), or why they can destroy mountains.
OT a bit here but I guess it's okay when the story involves neo nazi zombie vampires eating babies, just as long as the people in a love story doesn't involve someone that looks underage or doesn't have creatures that look like hamsters crossed with an electrical outlet that nature (read: God)can't produce. Hell, 4 episodes near the end of the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's anime weren't aired in the US due to some religious group being offended by the ritualistic images, thus skipping a very crucial plot point that confused fans beyond believe. Again: "****ing people"
Still, glad to hear it's all crap though. Thanks for pointing that out for me.

So FINALLY got around to finishing Fullmetal alchemist, enjoyed it but wasn't as good as I was expecting. I didn't find the characters as interesting as the characters in bleach or naruto. To be honest the raving about it even more disappointing. I don't even want to watch brotherhood now, I'm kind of feeling 'Meh, don't care enough about the characters, story or world'.
Some truly sick stuff happens though, really enjoyed that, didn't expect it at all.
So what's next? I've still got Soul Eater, anybody ever watched it? If so, what did you think, would you recommend it?

So you find characters who like to hit things as the interesting ones, eh?
Brotherhood is a 100% loyal adaption of the manga, while the original series only loosely followed the manga initially, until it quickly spiralled off into its own thing. The majority prefer Brotherhood, since the manga is ****in' fantastic.
Buuuut if you're the type to get really gigity when ichigo uses bankai, or when Kenpachi shows up 'cause you know he's gonna kick arse and win, then no, may not be for you :P

Actually I meant the suppporting characters in the anime world. To be honest I liked enjoyed in the first two arcs but after that he just went downhill. I just didn't find any supporting characters in the world of FMA that I liked as much as Ishida, Rukia, Sakura, Shikamaru, etc. Winry and her grandmother bored me, Al irritated me and the others I found to be quite meh. Few funny scenes are prevalent as well, with the short jokes completely overused. Basically it's the same thing I found with the
main Skyrim storyline, I'm not sure I'm going to even remember most of the FMA characters.
About kenpachi, no matter how shallow, he's awesome, chuck norris of anime. :P

Well at least you confirm where I thought you may stand :P
I personally find bleach dull and irritating - I still read it, but only due to the fact that I was reading it from the start, long before the anime was even a possibility. There are no character flaws, there's no character depth, no one ever dies, the mangaka panders out fan service far too much, and any interesting development is eventually completely eroded by said fanservice. The previous arc was really interesting initially, but at the conclusion SUDDENLY KENPACHI AND OTHER COOL DUDES PITCH UP AND KICK ARSE, completely ruining any depth or interest I had in it. Aizen, the only character I found interesting, quickly devolved into a maniac (completely discarding the aspect that was interesting about him), but most didn't even notice since Ichigo was orsum and winning.
Bleach, for me, represents a story that emphasizes the worst qualities (in my perception) of the shounen genre.
But I also know that many fans just look at me funny when I say that. :P
It's classic "zone out" stuff, you don't need to think.

stuff.
To be honest I completely agree, especially about the never dying part (that's ridiculous tbh) and I completely agree
about the last arc, I was really impressed with how it started. Even experienced the hopelessness after Tsukishima started getting to everybody, but like you said at the end there I was really like what. the. frak? There was literally no point to that arc other than giving ichigo his powers back and giving him someone to clobber.

I like both version of FMA. The original Anime spent much more time developing the characters and the music was excellent. Brotherhood though had the superior story line (based closer on the manga as Kharrak mentioned before) The music though was really uninspiring and they spent very little time on character development.

Just watched the new remake ova of Reuroni Kenshin Shishio arc. In all honesty: it blows compared to the original. I just want to know who the **** green lighted the sex scene with Shishio and his girlfriend. Eeeeew!
It just feels really really lazy and cheap. The animation is nice though.
