It's all fun and games until somebody gets their arm broken by a robotic arm wrestling machine. Atlas Co. is recalling its "Arm Spirit" arm wrestling arcade game from the market in Japan after the 150 machines scored three broken person arms between them. Spokeswoman Ayano Sakiyama had some smack for gamers puny enough to get their arms broken over the pink barrel: "The machine isn't that strong, much less so than a muscular man. Even women should be able to beat it." Yeah, she just shot down any robo-warrior cred you suckers might've been hoping for out of the situation. "We think that maybe some players get overexcited and twist their arms in an unnatural way," but they're recalling the machine as "a precaution."

All I have to say is goodluck at the arcade, "break an arm". Lol

It only takes 90 Newtons of force to break the average elbow. (That's equivalent to 9 Kg)

Today's ninja-enabled fact brought to you by the letter J! For Justice.

There's no such thing as 'ninja-enabled'. You made it up.

He's allowed to.

He's a ninja.

Actually it's a PC term. Statesmen/Daimyo were said to be "ninja-enabled" when they had access to ninja with which to assassinate political rivals in feudal japan. It's sort of like calling someone a nuclear power, but far more dangerous.

Also, how do you think I learned the elbow thing?

I almost broke my hand at Ceasers once playing that boxing game.
That's what you get for trying to show off in front of kids, couldn't close my hand for a few days.

I was at gym once and thought I'd be awesomely cool by punching the boxing bag they had there. I learned 2 things that night:

1. I punch like a *****. (I was going to say girl, but then again I live in the South of joburg, and the girls here could take a rhino out)

2. Don't be stupid. Awesome people don't have to hit things to be awesome. We just are.

As for the arm-wrestling machine thingy. Well. Sux2bthem now isn't it? Rather stick to GH2, it's much more fun, and makes your penis bigger than wrestling some fang-dangled machine.

Is that the one with the "speedball" that measures how hard you hit? I love that game, it's so funny watching people pay money to prove themselves to their friends...

I once watched a whole ton of indian guys comparing their scores, waited for the smallest, skinniest one to go and gave him some tips on how to hit correctly. After his dismal first try, he figured he had nothing to lose... Needless to say he gotz teh high score ;)

QFE. A little bit of common sense wouldn't hurt either. You know, they could have just let go of the device. It would have helped. lol

Okay, firstly - having three broken arms by the same arcade machine proves that there may be a manufacturing or pressure valve flaw somewhere. It's not about people being 'pussies' or 'not letting go' (how do you 'let go' from downward pinning force?)...

The fact that they recalled all the machines that, in spite of what the spokeswoman was saying (which sounded like egotistical bravado in the face of lawsuits), the company believes there is enough danger, and all the machines are recalled.

Oh, I never said there isn't anything wrong the machine. Clearly there is something wrong with it. But seriously, anyone with common sense with know to let go of a machine that's about to break their arm. I mean cmon.

And yes, you can escape a downward pinning force Miktar, it would depend on the position/angle you were in and the weight behind that force. Of cause there comes a point were this is impossible to do, but surely logic with tell you that something "bad" is about to happen before you reach that point.

I have to agree with Toi on this matter. Sometimes having a ego can cloud your judgement and make you hold on, just to prove to everyone that you're a hero or "tough". Unless of cause the machine WAS very fast and they couldn't let go in time. Which probably is the case.

Personally, I think certain people are jumping to the testosterone conclusions a little too fast - it's revealing.

Lol. Why else with a person hold on to a machine that twisting their arm off Miktar? :P Dislekcia, mentioned it earlier (remember, the indian guys?) Ego can play a big part dude. :P But like I said, if it is totally the machines fault, then I am wrong. And I owe you a cookie at rAge.

Cyberninja, you are assigning motives. Why WOULD A PERSON HOLD ON TO A MACHINE THAT IS TWISTING THEIR ARM OFF?! THEY WOULDN'T!

That's my point.

You are assuming they would.

I can only assume that means you would.

Cyberninja

Okay, fair enough. I'll stop. Your assumption about me, with be wrong, though. :-)

I know. They key word there was "assume". :P

Cyberninja

Understood. :P But I still plan on hunting you down at rAge. You (along with some others) are on my *secret list. Be afraid, be berry afraid....

*No! I can't tell you! It would ruin the surprise. :P

I don't know, arm wrestling a machine seems like a silly idea, even a wussy Transformer will rip your arm right off.

Toi

I also doubt that anyone would hold on to it. It's not like it twists you're arm more and more gradually. It happens in a snap.

My friend actually broke his arm in a real arm wrestling match a few weeks ago. Just a slight twist or whatever it could have been and suddenly *pop*.

Look, the whole punching thing with me wasn't really an ego thing. It is a punching game and the aim is to punch it as hard as possible. It's just that having kids go "whoa" does give you a little boost in confidence.

Why somebody would let their arm get twisted off by a crazy machine. An explanation by Nandrew.

Process:

PERSON: OMG! Arm-wrestling machine!

MACHINE: GARR I AM ARM WRESTLE.

PERSON: Lemme play.

MACHINE: *wrestle noises*

MACHINE: PWNING JOO.

PERSON: Oh****, I rly ought to get outta this, this thing could snap my arm off!

PERSON: Unless ...

PERSON: I could totally get my arm broken, sue the ass off the company behind this machine, and wallow in luxury from the court award.

PERSON: Actually, wait, that's a damn stu- OH****MYARMOMGOMGOMG!

PERSON: *passes out*

MACHINE: ...

MACHINE: GARR I AM ARM WRESTLE.

I believe no further explanation is required.
