Dear Strategy Enthusiasts

I will be looking at organising some prizes like I do every year for the non Warcraft and Starcraft strategy fans.

I will run this poll until Mid-August and then make my final decision about which comp to host.

Your choices are:

Lord of the Rings - Battle for Middle Earth 2
Command and Conquer 3
Command and Conquer 3 - Kane's Wrath
Supreme Commander

You also have a choice between 1vs1 or 2vs2 competition so let me know if you like going in solo or take on the enemy with a buddy at you side.

Yes JD, the R20 is after ticket and everything for Rage. It is a tourny hosted by someone else. Think of it as an entrance fee to the comp.

Have them on your pc beforehand. Well basically what happened last year is we all rocked up there, set up our things. Then spoke to nictron who gave us the match ups and rules etc. Then you play and report back.

So it will be the same. However, if really needed you can get the games there. Legally of course. They have stands(and in Northgate there is a btgames)

I usually post all the rules and regulations and everything you need to know about a month before the event.

But to put it in perspective you need:

- A NAG LAN@RAGE Ticket (Goes on sale on 1st August at www.computicket.co.za)
- A Red plug with flattened earth Pin.
- PC capable of handling the game.
- The game in question pre installed and patched based on the specifications given.
- If you are planning to snooze in the dome bring a Sleeping bag and comfortable cushion.
- Spending money for food, the great deals at the show and lots of games and goodies.
- Wash cloth and some soap and other toiletries.

Well those are the essentials that are needed!

You will be glad to hear that there are motherboards and CPU's for both competitions, but the one comp will be 2vs2 and the other 1vs1 motherboards and CPU's for all the winners.

The 2vs2 comp will be a Intel Core2 Duo E8500 - dual core 3.16ghz box cpu + Intel motherboard.

The 1vs1 comp will be a Intel Core2 Quadro + High end motherboard.

I am a bit concerned about Command and Conquer though, I hear there is already a big CnC comp hosted by ASASA and the winning will go oversees, so I might scrap the Command and Conquer competition in favour of Battle for Middle Earth 2 1vs1.

if you want my 2c, for less chaos have one comp (2v2 and no 1v1)

ruleset:

FA, assasination, 500 unit, random 10km map

game layout:

we can make it group format with X (the best is 4 teams per group) amount of teams in one group, everyone plays eachother in their group. 3 points for a win, 1 point for a loss (forfeit counts as 1 loss)

the the top 2 of each group go to the quaters (pre quaters if to many teams left), then semis and finals.

prizes:

1st get a good equal prize (if you can get x2 on those cpu's and high end mobos) and 2nd get the duo+mobo and 3rd get what ever 2nd was in both comps and 4th some bubble boy prize (headset, keyboard, mouse, mouse pad etc)

I will have a different type of tournament schedule this year that we used in a squash tournament recently. You have to win all your games to be in the final but if you loose and win against the right opponents you could be back in the running to play for the number one spot.

Except for those mentioned above I can't confirm any more prizes.

May I recommend a Swiss Style Tournament, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swiss_system_tournament, although it might be what are actually describing?

That looks very similar to what I had in mind, in the first round it might be unfair but as the competition progresses it improves your chances to play against people of similar skill.

There will be two competitions. That is how I will plan it. At the moment the prizes will dictate a 2vs2 and a 1vs1. If I get a nother CPU motherboard I will organise 2 2vs2 competitions not just one. The reasons are that some players like CnC and other Supcom, they are different types of strategy so I try and accomodate both.

Don't try and argue for only one comp because it won't happen.

So those that are worried that there will only be one comp, don't be because it will be two.

So it looks like a SupCom 2vs2 and I think I am going to choose BFME 2 1vs1 for the other comp, I see they have BFME 2 on classic sales at most retailers for R99 bucks.

Forged alliance is the expansion and is stand alone. We all have to have either FA or Vanilla.But from the feedback I think most people here have FA?

There will be a two competitions a 1vs1 and a 2vs2 competition. Thus far it looks like SupCom will be the undisputed 2vs2, The poll was just to get an idea of where the interest lay, in the end it is really up to me to decide what will be played. If I had more prizes I would of considered a second 2vs2 but that is not going to happen.

Secondly, I hosted a CnC tourney last year and quite frankly I am in the mood for a BFME2 comp, but I still gave you guys the opportunity to vote for your 2vs2 which is SupCom at the moment.

What he said. Look Thrax. Nictron is doing this because he would like a tournament to play for strategy games. It is not being offered elsewhere so he decided to make his own tourny for himself and all of us who are willing to play.

Look at supcom, you tell me how many tournies there are for it. Same story with BFME2(although I'm really not sure but am assuming it is the same)

Nictron does this for enjoyment, it is not an obligation for him to do it. He is doing us all a favour by offering this and going through all the effort.

So Thrax. Just be grateful.

Hey, I was just wondering why you seperated c&c3 from kw for the poll? You didn't seperate supcom from fa and therefore the votes for it is uncontested where it would've been really close against c&c.

I do not have Kane's Wrath, anyway I do not think it is too relevant considering that you could of voted for all the games in the list if you wanted too.

Game time was limited to 2 hours.

Hi All

So the 15th of August is gone and past and I will announce the two competitions that will be played.

The 2vs2 Competition will be Supreme Commander Forged Alliance, for those of you that do not have Supreme Commander or Forged Alliance you can go to Incredible Connection and get Supreme Commander + Forged Alliance for only R199 on special, most places have it on special these days and you should be able to get the expansion at a good price. (Entrance fee R20).

The 1vs1 competition will be Lord of the Rings - Battle for Middle Earth 2 without the expansion. The reason is that Rise of the Witch King is almost nowhere to be found, I have been to BT Games, Incredible Connection, Defcon 5, and some other places and can't find it anywhere, you can however download it from EAStore.co.za but at SA bandwidth prices that is not really reasonable. The original BFME2 is available in Classic at most major retailers for R99, which is great so if you don't have it go and get it. (Entrance fee R10)

I will be posting the official Rules and other details by tomorrow so look out for those threads.

Thank you to all for voting, unfortunately I can't please everyone but I am sure we will have a great time none the less.

The confirmed prizes for the competitions are as follows:

Supreme Commander 2vs2:

I can only confirm these items thus far as I have them in my hands, as I do every year because there is nothing worse than promising the world to you guys and not delivering on that promise. I am however expecting more parties to confirm items closer to Rage so stay tuned!

As you can see the first prizes are both R10 000+ in value and it will do you good to make sure you enter these two competitions and be in the running for the spoils.
