Oh my God. I thought that thread title meant a band member had died..... dammit I almost fell over! Looking forward to the album as well.

I also thought it was something negative about the band, and I was thinking to myself "they never had any hope anyway, they've always totally sucked".

:-P

@onona: I'm quite stunned that you don't like Slipknot. I have massive respect for them as a band (Joey Jordinson is a really great musician, even beyond drumming).

Each of their albums have been solid metal offerings.

Sure, they could easily fire the "precussionists" and ditch the uniforms/masks, but they did what they needed to to stand out. I read somewhere that they spread rumours about the things they did on stage (**** flinging, throwing up on each other) when starting out, just to get more people to their shows.

I also think that Corey has a great metal voice (even if the new Stone Sour album blows goats)

Well my reply was more tongue in cheek than anything else, really. I've never liked their music, but that doesn't mean they suck. Because I appreciate the fact that they're good musicians; I just personally don't like their music at all. Or their gimmicks.
In the immortal words of Austin Powers: it's just not my bag, baby.

I enjoy their music due to the contrast of the screaming and the singing. Much like In Flames in that regard.

I love them for there ability to have really tight groves, that while exceptionally clean, still bludgeon you over the head (refering to Vol 3 in particular). And Joey's drumming is incredible.
I just kinda figured that you'd be into them for what they do musically.

I quite enjoyed their self-titled album the most. I can remember clearly the first time hearing "Spit it out" and "Eyeless" and completely losing my ****ing mind. It was just...****.

Vol 3 went a different route though and it's a tricky album in the sense that I'm actually quite undecided whether I like it or not. It's in no way a bad album at all, but IMHO it doesn't hold a light to their self-titled one. They just went a different direction with Vol 3 and some of the songs seem to sound very much like Stonesour rather than Slipknot.

I DEFINITELY wasn't saying that Vol 3 was there best. ST is my favourite album, but it's the clean brutality, that's probably most evident in the 3rd album, that really grabs me. They don't get messy like 90% of other band in there genre.

I'm actually quite selective when it comes to music, and in the case of Slipknot, I just can't get into their stuff. It's hard to really nail down the reasons for this, but I just don't connect to them at all. I don't particularly like Stonesour either. I guess music can be like food - we just don't like certain flavours, but really can't explain exactly why.
