We thought that last Max Payne dirt-killing pic was an anomaly. You know, just a one-off of Marky Mark as Maxy Max shooting dirt. Oh no. We were totally wrong. Take a look at these new Max Payne posters. Above, he's looking down at dirt, perhaps getting ready to kill it. Because, man, when you pack heat like that and see dirt, you just want to shoot it dead.

After the jump, Marky Mark raise his eyebrow at dirt. We can't tell if he shot it or not. Probably did! That guy probably hates dirt so hard. ****in' dirt.

What. The. ****.

I watched the trailer and that does not seem like a Max Payne movie. It seems more like Bourne meets Constantine.

Seriously, flying demon ****? In Max Payne? What Max Payne did they play?

Actual link to trailer (http://kotaku.com/5043359/heres-a-new-max-payne-trailer)

I am with NFerno on this, What the ****?

Forgive me, I only played the first Max Payne and that was NOTHING like what I saw in that trailer.
Reminds me a bit like Hellboy, or X-Men, or Constantine, or Night Watch or... you get the ****ing idea.

I am willing to bet that some half-baked writer had this awesome story about Valkyries and supernatural beasts and everyone thought it was brilliant... they just needed a name... Hmm... Hey look, lets use 'Max Payne' then we can steal his emo, downwards looking gaze as well

This movie would be a lot better if I didn't know about max Payne

Edit: $50 says it boils down to a 'only he can save <insert city here>' and he has to fight that topless baldie in the trailer

Heh. ****in' dirt.

When they announced this movie it got me thinking. Here you have a game that was heavily influenced by film noir and Hong Kong action movies. Now when you make a movie based on the game, how will you differentiate it from the movies it was influenced by? Maybe that's why there is flying demon ****.

Look at the comments, most of the gaming world can't figure out why there's paranormal **** in this. THEY'VE PULLED A F**KING "DOOM"!

*edit* Re-evaluating, I need to watch trailer a few more times.

I'm with Squirly on this one, the demons you see are either metaphorical or an illusion. The games had some pretty "out there" stuff, so it's not much of a stretch.

I'm interested in this movie, and I'm seeing a lot of the game come through in it.

They might have got confused with Constantine or Painkiller.

Max Payne was the first PC game I ever played, and holds a special place in my heart. To see this movie being ****ed up is more than I can stand.
Drugs also played a part in the game, maybe the Valkryie are halluciations, as someone said? They were also mentioned in the game.
Me thinks must replay...
EDIT: one of the comments from Kensei's link. I think it explains it well:

@Trowble (XBL/PSN): You do realize there were about a billion Norse myth references in the original Max Payne, right? Valkyr, the Aesir Corp, the Yggdrasil network, the Asgard building, Alfred Woden, Alex Balder (the guy whose death kicks off Max's own personal Ragnarok), etc.

I'm not saying the movie will necessarily be GOOD, but all of the Norse stuff is there in the game, and I would not be at all surprised to learn that all of the over-the-top stuff in the trailer with winged people and apocalyptic imagery comes during one of Max's (numerous) Valkyr hallucinations.

I think a lot of people need to stop jumping to conclusions based on snippets and short clips.

To me this looks like one of the, potentially, better game-movies.

Probably... you have the whole 'Make a movie kinda like the game so fanboys are happy, but not so much like the game that they complain'

I will see this movie, not because its OMG Max Payne, but because I want to see if Mark Wahlberg can actually pull off a genuinely brooding, ass kicking hero

(Besides, I have thing for creatures with angel wings :D)

Mila Kunis looks frikkin' hot.

Like a cross between Mona from 1 and 2.

All is good, folks.

I think the movie looks awesome.
A lot of the imagery that you see is very close to what happened in the game.

The only thing that's out are the valkyries, and I'm more than willing to assume those are drug induced.

I would also be willing to assume that the valkyries are drug induced, but one thing bothers me. One of the lines from the trailer is "Max is looking for something that God wants to stay hidden," or something to that effect. Now couple that line with the valkyries and all the other 'wierd' occurences in the trailer and you have a potential Constantine re-hash. I still think the movie will kick ass though, and hey they do have a Mona Sax who looks so much like the game character.

There's also a line that says "When a man loses the people he needs" but we're not all going arse-about-face and assuming it's suddenly a drama now, are we?

Film noir is all about imagery people. To me this is looking exciting enough that I want to go watch it with a ton of gamer friends so we can all ooh and aah in unison at the right bits :)

Okay, we all agree then. If Valkyries are drug-induced, HOORAY! If this is some sort of monster movie with no connection to Max Payne, BOOOO!
