View Full Version : A little slice of Ike

I'm posting this using the last of my laptop battery and the cell modem (useful thing, right now).

We got nailed by some serious winds last night as Ike spiraled its way up the American landmass from where it hit the coast of Texas. Even though it had mostly dissipated by the time it brushed up against the state, the winds were still strong enough to knock over several Fir, Poplar and Oak trees. The trees took out the power lines at multiple points, this entire area lacks power now and it's unclear when they'll have it all fixed again. Was pretty cool though, every lawn this morning looks like suicide trees exploded on them.

Nobody in the neighborhood was hurt, though one house had a close call, a giant oak missing it by a few centimeters.

No power sucks for us though, since the well where we get our water uses an electric pump. :P

Ooh. I quite enjoy such chaos.

But shame dude. No water? I'm glad I won't have to sit next to you lot anytime soon :p

I would really like to sit in the middle of a hurricane and witness first hand the destructive forces of nature. Would be extreme!

One morning, a few days (weeks) ago, after a stormy night, there were broken branches from almost every tree littering the parks, lawns and roads of the CT suburbs. I though, "Wow." but then realized that the things Hurricanes and tornadoes do is EXTREME compared to this.

I too would like to...

...witness first hand the destructive forces of nature.
